Gentlemanly, professional, humble and kind. John Oates is a good human being and it comes through in every interview I see with him.
meanwhile, Hall is a complete and total jackass
Not too many other duos stick together for so long, Hall & Oates do... BEST GROUP EVER !
AMEN
Yupp.
A couple of really good gays.
@@jaysantos536 They are straight.
What a genuine, humble person. A breath of fresh air, thank you Mr Oates.
I appreciate your continued love and support, would love to have a conversation with you!
First time hearing him talk. Seems like a genuinely nice guy.
What a great duo. It's not just the music but the memories.
The music is memories 🥰
We LOVE Daryl and John. Not only are they both great musicians, they’re both quality human beings. They still sound amazing in concert to this day. Love their “Live At The Troubadour,” album.🎧
I remember riding a Greyhound bus from Tallahassee to New Orleans around 1988 or so, I had a cheap cassette player and only 1 cassette, Hall N Oates "Rock and Soul, Greatest Hits." Man I listened to that for 2 days straight. I know every song on that one and love them all too. "Sara Smile" and "She's Gone" are my favorite songs from them. Those are super good memories! Thank you John, Daryl too!
YES INDEED
The BEST music!
Just a couple of good gays.
I always thought he had such a sweet, good nature attitude and I see I wasn't wrong. He's noble (as we say in Spanish) and classy.

I'm glad you replied. I went to Colombia (South A.), to my parents farm in the middle of nowhere. My phone was tolen and wasn't able to fix the problem there. It was good for my soul to be disconnected from the electronics, I must admit. No PC, no iPod, no cable. Lots of horseback riding, hiking. So I really apologize for not F/U.

I have always admired John Oates. His contributions to the duos collections of songs is indisputable. I especially love the album " Abandoned Luncheonette". We share the same birthday and music is my passion to! I can sing. Looking forward to reading his book.🏔🌲🎸🎧❤️
We share the same Height 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😳
Did john oates punk down on what maneater is about? Said it was about a woman...that would " chew you up" then said but it's really about NYC? Political correctness...no it's about women...!
I share the same birthday as Daryl Hall. I quite adore making my own music. And by now that I'm 19 I feel like I wrote some really good stuff. We should maybe get in touch!
April 7.....yup.....my Birthday too.
Nice to hear John’s thoughts here.
Hello, i appreciate your continued love and support’
I'm glad John and hopefully Daryl embrace their legacy. So often I hear artists kinda get whiny or play things off because they are exhausted of it all, but many people cherish and appreciate the longevity. People genuinely appreciate the songs these guys gave us. Pop music is the background tapestry of our lives. It stays with us until our dying day. Thank John. Thanks for the memories.
I've read/listened to some interviews where Daryl does throw some shade about the duo. Especially as it relates to recording new music with John.
I saw them last night in Dublin, it will take years and years to forget these memories
You are a Lucky Man .
Hall and oates always was one of my favorite groups.
John Oates is great. Still sticking together. That"s what I like to hear. Keep on rocking.
He really aged well!
Love hearing musicians talk about their hits which were based on small experiences.
Smart man. If you find a voice like Daryls, you stay with it.
Love these guys and their music. John is so cool and down to earth. I was a teenager when they dominated Top40 radio from 1980-'85. They recroded so many great songs and albums. They along with The Police were my two favorite bands in high school.

Great interview. Daryl & Oates came to a show in Brazil for the first time in June 2019 and I was there, it was a dream. I've loved them since the early 80's when I met their songs.

An incredible duo with awesome talent and everlasting music
"Maneater" was my first introduction to Hall & Oates. I bought the 45. lol. Been a fan of them ever since and FINALLY saw them in concert in 2017 in Sugarland, Texas. Big fun!! It was like 90 minutes of karaoke - one sing along hit after another.
Joey Dutton saw them over a week ago.. just got my voice back. Ton of fans over 50, rocking like it was the 80s.. such a blast.
I love this duo. Mad props for them
Rock solid relationship. I admire them!!!

She's Gone, which is my favourite from H&O, was released twice during the 1970s. First in 1974 reaching #64 when they were signed to Atlantic Records and then again in Aug 1976 when they switched record labels to RCA and reaching #7. Rich Girl was their first #1 song in America on Mar 26 1977 for 2 wks. During the 1980s, they had 5 #1 songs and 13 top 10 hits! Im happy they were finally inducted into the RRHOF!
Yes finally! I enjoy them so much since the 70’s💞🥰 Wish you guys would come to Oklahoma 😘

Hello, how are you today? Nice to meet you on here.
This was such a pleasing and respectful interview, so much more so than the interrogation Daryl had with Howard Stern. Howard just went on and on and spent the entire interview trying to goad Daryl into unloading some venomous gossip on his relationship with John. Daryl wasn't having any of it and very tastefully echoed John's responses in this interview.
Loved these guys from day one, big fan ever since, just great guys and great music...loved listening to John tell the stories 👍
Still remember seeing "Hall & Oates" back in the late 1970's in Wolverhampton UK. What a night that was. Thanks John.
Incredible stories with them
Endless love to Hall and Oates
Wow, these two, Hall And Oates had such a gift for writing songs and singing them too!
"She's Gone" to "Everything Your Heart Desires"..so many hits up until then... I'm not knocking it, I'm just saying that was an incredible span of great hits! And those two songs are also my two of my three favorites, along with "Wait For Me" (the live version) ...
They have a lot of music pass those songs and are currently working on a new album. You need to keep up...
@@susanbezio1529 Me too! Seems I’m ‘Outta Touch’! ☺️
It is amazing that these guys met in college and continue as a duo. I have performed in duos. It is harder than you think. In a band, sometimes you can get lost. In a duo, there is more of an opportunity for friction as there is nowhere to hide. Congrats to Daryl and John for providing us with so much good music over the years.

In that respect, their story reminds me much of the "Indigo Girls. They first met in school, noticed each other's singing in their high school choir, and reslly started performing together when attending Emory University. Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have each done independent albums, but are FAR better known for their phenomenal HARMONIES as a duet, (both vocally, and on the many guitars and other stringed instruments they each play) ... and with the various other musicians they have had accompany them (or whom they have accompanied) at various times. (Like their own band; various musicians at Lilith Fair and other festivals over the years; Buffy Ste. Marie; Pink; Anne Murray; Joan Baez; Brandi Carlisle; etc.). In fact, I recall reading that they were a huge influence or catalyst for many of the on-stage and casual off-stage musical collaborating that happened during the (three?) tours of all-women-performer "Lilith Fair" concert tours that Sarah McLachlan organized.
Four or more decades later, the Indigo Girls are still creating and performing fabulous music. [One of my musician friends from the years I lived in England, actually studied the sound of the Indigo Girls' tunes, and taught himself to play guitar and keep improving upon his skill, by copying their tunes!]
@@amosfraser Hall and Oates met at Temple, I believe. Becker and Fagen also met in college.

What a good interview.
Loved listening to these guy growing up. Didn't know they weren't black until i saw them on mtv. Great group
I'd always heard Daryl wrote She's Gone in response to his first wife leaving him.
John wrote the majority of She's Gone
@@michaelbiggs7861 The book Dangerous Dances (1984 bio on Hall & Oates) made it seem like Daryl wrote it in response to his first wife (Bryna Lubin) leaving him. At least it gave the impression that he was the main writer and came up with the title (pp. 50-51).
@@daveidmarx8296 I've still got that book, I will give it another read. There's quite a few interviews with both John and Daryl on UA-cam where they confirm John came up with the title and the chorus after he was stood up on a date, he showed his idea's to Daryl and Daryl came up with the tune and it went from there.
Tiny Tim Actually wrote that song about Ebenezer Scrooge 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸😷😷🏭🗽🚶🚶🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃👷
I also have the book Dangerous Dances and thought the song She’s Gone was about Daryls first wife Bryan Lublin leaving him. They even have the pages of when Daryl was writing the song. Looks very authentic.Dont know which story to believe.
Interesting when John said "Rich Girl" sounds better. Immediately thought of "Take it Easy", where Eagles sing Winslow instead of Flagstaff.
I enjoy the stories
