It's a sneak. They never expect it. It's like the typewriter-fountain pen duo. A very dangerous combination. Nobody expects the ink refill after the typewriter jam to the cranium.
I've never been more glad to forget their names momentarily (like Key and Peele, which is which? jk). I was expecting Mitchell to get mad, grab the typewriter, and lob it after seeing your comment before it had happened, so I was totally caught off guard when he took it to the head, lol.
The sound of the typewriter hitting his face is always what did it for me for this sketch. Someone went through great lengths to make sure it had just the right snap, just the exact quality that you would expect from a typewriter smacking someone in the face hard. They know us better than we know ourselves.
I would argue that this sketch has the best comedic timing of all time, and the best use of slapstick sound effects ever. There's just something about the typewriter hitting him in the face, the sound of it, that's so unique and perfect.
even though I expected that ending because I've seen this before. That sound of pain David did is so perfect and unexpected i forgot about it and its still funny every time!! XD
Think there was at least one person like that in every place I worked as an adult until I got my current job. If you pointed out the toxicity of this behaviour it seemed like everyone thought you were crazy. I won't be changing from my current job any time soon, if ever again. The world is a looney bin these days.
We used to do something along those lines during interviews - not as drastic though. We just invited an extra colleague to pretend she’s the Director and her job was to act normally for 10 minutes and then start looking increasingly bored. At the end we had this bit where she was playing with her phone and we used to ask: ‘Anna do you have any questions?’ and her reply used to be: ‘Oh no, I already heard enough’. That was probably illegal, heaps of fun though.
I had a boss a bit like that. He thought it was hysterical to deliberately be vile to people just to see if they'd stand up to him. If you didn't, he'd keep on putting the boot in, if you got angry he'd then act as though you were suddenly his best mate. Backfired a bit when he got himself sacked for bullying and none of us remotely cared.
+StavroginNikolai The typewrter was indeed thrown, but it'll have been thrown and then edited into the clip, most likely. That or Mitchell and Webb just had a serious argument about cheese again and...well, this. XD
Haha, it's not his main role though. I assume they're not always interviewing. Then again, when they are, they could put you in a room with another employee and make your interview a mock interview of that employee.
That vexed bit cracked me up 😂 Reminded me of a meeting I was in once where a guy was using loads of BS corporate words. First he used promulgate, most rolled their eyes. Then he said, “the once this is has been homologated…”. The big big boss stopped and interjected, “just say approved.” 😂
I remember being on a course and at the induction a few of the students were asking each other why we were doing the course and this one guy with a very posh accent said 'I'm here to ''imbue'' the knowledge haha and he kept saying ''imbue'' and widened his eyes when he said it lmao...I think a typewriter would have been handy
And the promotion goes to the guy who beats Derick to death with his own typewriter while still answering questions. It was discovered that successful executives share most of the same characteristics as sociopaths, and now it's part of the requirements.
I was happily enjoying Mitchell and Webb and then, at 1:07 the pop up came up with "NEXT: The Catherine Tate Show" and I became extremely happy.. and then realized it was just UA-cam.
Omfg lmfao Ilove this !!!!!!!!!!!!! That ending was fucking priceless, though I am supposed to be revising for my gcse biology exam and I did lol pretty loud so my dad is probably pissed off I'm not revising but who cares!
I love how Robert briefly slips out of the negative persona as the boss describes what he's doing
That's a good detail, haven't seen that before
@@olgierd245yeah it’s only just been added in
00:37 the most perfectly timed "wanker!" that ever was or ever will be
Cause of death: Extreme negative feedback
Let me give that an extreme thumbs DOWN!
For some reason I did not see the flying typewriter coming. Legitimately made me laugh out loud!
Neither did my gran... that's what ultimately killed her.
Oh wow I'm so sorry for your loss, I have no *words*. Just take it one day at a time, that's the *key*. I'd make jokes but I'm not the *type*.
MrCompassionate01 would have been funnier if you hadn't highlighted those words so for that I'm giving you an 8 out of 10.
It's a sneak. They never expect it. It's like the typewriter-fountain pen duo. A very dangerous combination. Nobody expects the ink refill after the typewriter jam to the cranium.
Same. It's so out of left field it's almost pythonesque.
That ending!
Im sorry I didnt hear you. Did you get the hang of it, now?
Great throughout, and positively cracked up at the end.

+KK426LH it's the UK equivalent of people saying totally
KK426LH in terms of regional colloquialisms, it may not be 100% the same, but it pretty much is synonymous
notice how in the beginning, it starts off with "well, this should be relatively painless...." ha!
The guy/girl who did the editing on that typewriter sound hitting Mitchell in the head is genius. It sounded extremely convincing.
Having been hit in the head with many typewriters over the years, I can attest to this fact.
Hopefully they didn’t use the “frying pan to Manuel’s head” method
I've never been more glad to forget their names momentarily (like Key and Peele, which is which? jk).
I was expecting Mitchell to get mad, grab the typewriter, and lob it after seeing your comment before it had happened, so I was totally caught off guard when he took it to the head, lol.

I concur. It literally sounded like a very heavy Typewriter
@@LivesInLibertyCity I really wonder how they did it. Maybe they just smacked a ham with a typewriter. lol
it's like when you think you've got the hang of life
daniel harrhy Parents are good for preparing us for this scenario.
Exactly
The moment David takes that typewriter to the face absolutely destroys me every time without fail.
I've replayed the last 10s 3 times in a row, still cracks me up. The sound it makes is just perfection
*Fanny 😂
The "Argh!" in the end, it's too much! xD
“Oh shit, my natural bloody charm is only swinging it”
😂😂😂😂😂
You do not have facial spasming
Classic Jez
i have watched this sketch about 100 times and the end still makes me laugh every time haha
I know! Few things keep getting me. I know the ending. I know the punchline. but it still gets me!! 🤣🤣
I don't usually laugh at slapstick, but that ending was brilliant.
The noise of the typewriter hitting David really sells it. Brilliant sketch!
I love how it looks like prop made out of cardboard, but it makes it by sounding like it really, really hurts.
I was foolish enough to take a sip of tea right before the end.
And that ladies and gents is how you finely dose slapstick comedy.
even though I expected that ending because I've seen this before. That sound of pain David did is so perfect and unexpected i forgot about it and its still funny every time!! XD
One of the funniest bits ever. Should be provided with every "looking for a job" package... Brilliant.
Haha I was crying with laughter at this
Throughout I was thinking "funny premise, but how can they end it?"
Didn't know 240p was the new standard for [HQ]
Austin S Too bad for you. Hey, its free though. Free is the new HD. How about that? Feel better?
go watch some avengers then
It's cause the previous one was 10p
They say you learn something every day.
Maybe in the 10 years since you wrote your comment you've also learned what the settings icon is for.
For 2009 UA-cam this is pretty HQ.
I haven't seen a video this funny in so long. I never laugh while I'm alone, but that was fucking hilarious.
OMFG that was amazing!
The first time I seen this I was on the floor. I ended up buying everything mitchell and webb have ever done.
It's funny watching the ending with and without the sound on, and seeing how much it adds :D
This sketch shows the importance of sound. It really sells that gag!
The end gets me every time.
You miss spelled LQ
You misspelled IQ
When this video was uploaded, UA-cam had a setting called HQ. That's what this is.
That interview would've gone a lot smoother after very nearly two drinks.
*Actual stunt work* isn't something you normally expect from David Mitchell. Incredible skit!
LOL. Once again, the very end really makes the skit.
I haven't laughed out loud like that in ages. Comedy perfection! 🎉

If that person isn't one of your colleagues then, I'm afraid, it's you.
Neurotypicals seem to default to using abuse and force to get what they want.
laughing on load and roling on the floor !!
everytime i see this i nearly get a fit :-)
You are a very talented comedian!

when the whole typewriter came flying I burst out laughing. 🤣
0:15 - does that mean he achieved project Zeus?
The typewriter hitting him is the best scène ever from michell and webb
Did that typewriter really hit him in the end? Looked pretty real to me.
+StavroginNikolai I know right!? That looked like it hurt a lot.
+StavroginNikolai I definitely winced. The sound of it was brutal.
+StavroginNikolai The typewrter was indeed thrown, but it'll have been thrown and then edited into the clip, most likely.
That or Mitchell and Webb just had a serious argument about cheese again and...well, this. XD
Could just be a foam prop with inner hardening to look sturdy but hit soft. Sound added in after. Was a great hit though. XD
No, I think it hit him in the head.
Absolutely, the ends of sketches is so often the weak point.
Robert plays this character way to well.
This looks like my dream job!
Only one problem - how would you interview for it?
Haha, it's not his main role though. I assume they're not always interviewing. Then again, when they are, they could put you in a room with another employee and make your interview a mock interview of that employee.
Fucking carefully.

It was a minute and half of setup for a cheap slapstick gag, but by God it was worth it.
god I wish this show had more seasons
I did see it coming, It's the 5th time & I still can't stop laughing... Ha Ha Ha... Brilliant!
No typewriters were harmed in the making of this episode.
your typical interview when you want to go from one level to the next :D
I really liked the clip, but because you advertised it as HQ and it's 240p, I'm going to give you a dislike. I hate false advertising.
Should have hired Henimore.
HAHA that guy got hit in the head with a typewriter
And the promotion goes to the guy who beats Derick to death with his own typewriter while still answering questions. It was discovered that successful executives share most of the same characteristics as sociopaths, and now it's part of the requirements.
Accurate. Derek is how some recruiters have actually talked to me, so not surprised.
The sound of the typewriter hitting David in the face was deliciously heavy
I have no idea how they managed to so perfectly nail that sound effect. It's utter brilliance
Delightful.
1:33...thank me later!
Thanks, 3 years later
Ta, from August 2024.
🙏🏾
Wow, it's like having your wife on your interview panel
Thats so funny, I'm crying a that last bit XD
I’m so glad I forgot the punchline to this
"I think I've got the hang of it now." BANG!
Thankyou youtube comments for alway, always having the punchline explained in the top rated comment and therefore always within veiw of the video :3
Never gets old.
Has this ever been uploaded to r/perfectlycutscreams?
When I first saw this I knew something was off because David's character was coping too well. Perfect punchline.
I think it's probably my favorite punchline of any sketch of all time. The sound effect, the timing, the yell, the visuals... Unbeatable.
I was happily enjoying Mitchell and Webb and then, at 1:07 the pop up came up with "NEXT: The Catherine Tate Show" and I became extremely happy.. and then realized it was just UA-cam.
“DING… DING… DING… DING, DING, DING”
I've found my professional calling, I want to provide extreme negative feedback!
What pains me is that company truly do this shit now. Try to get you on your nerves.
(Except maybe throwing you a typewriter....maybe).
Of course they don't throw a typewriter. Far too expensive when a simple brick will suffice.
kulgan18
kulgan18 give it time
Where do I apply for a job like this? Its my dream to give negative feedback and be paid for it
The last second is genius
He "nearly" had the hang of it ... 😀
i swear this sketch was in "absolutely" first?
wow I think today is the first day of my li
the end frigin killed me lamo
2 people clearly had extreme negative feedback during their interviews.
360p? Wow, so HQ...
What? It says it in the title...
"Next: The Catherine Tate Show"
Oh, whoop-tee-doo. Please excuse the audience for not exploding in anticipation.
So, did he get the promotion?
Simple...re-route the phones!
oh thanks..think I'm getting the hang of it now..**Typewriter smack**
I find Derrick far less annoying than canned laughter.

I did expect THAT :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I remember Webb's face as the great god Pan.
The real web that is
I'm all so vexed.
I love when the typewriter hits him 😁
I think it's my favorite ending to any sketch ever in existence
the punch line is the typewriter
It was EXTREME NEGATIVITY! XD
Jesus, that sound...

I did not see that coming LOL
My dream job
When you have to resort to rehashing the lamest Monty Python type sketches, you know you're desperately running out of ideas.
