For local food in Singapore, highly recommend the not so widely mentioned Malay Muslim food such as mee rebus, mee siam and mee soto. They can be easily found in most hawker centres and food courts at a reasonable price.
"Mee Siam" (literally "noodles in Siamese style", the former name for Thailand). I must try this dish to see how similar Thai dish it is. Love shared cultures. Makes me feel close to our neighboring countries.
Love it. You guys always seem to "get it" and understand the "why" behind your trip. The end of this video was just great. (Not that the rest of it wasn't!) Enjoy your time together!
So sweet! 🥰🥰You are so blessed to have your parents fit and healthy to travel with you. Cherish the moment Sometimes, we will never know the value of a moment until they become a memory.
Wow, you recall my memory of visiting Gardens by the Bay with my daughter in 2019. My daughter has been worked an internship at Grand Hyatt Singapore for a year. I also enjoyed night view from the SkyPark Observation Deck of Marina Bay Sands.
So happy to see you guys enjoying time together as a family in my country. Yes, Gardens by the Bay is magical. It's quite literally my neigbourhood garden because it's near where I live and part of my exercise route, and I'm still blown away by it every single time. You're welcome to come back again anytime!
wow! you have a beautiful neighborhood garden! we love how many accessible paths there are for running/biking/walking, everything there! thanks for the warm welcome
You guys are absolutely amazing & thoughtful for bringing your parents along for the trip. Hope you enjoy your stay in my little humble Singapore island. Love you guys 😘😘
Hi Lisa and Josh, great to see both of you travelling with your parents to Singapore...surely pros and cons travelling with the elderly and never easy😊. Enjoy your trip here and take care.
I m so happy and glad for u to honour your parents, and spend time together for this holiday. Don’t wait till is too late for regrets, wish u and your family well and safe during stay in Singapore.
I love this! My husband and travel with our parents as well. We have totally different experiences on trips with them than without. You are absolutely wise to recognize just how special this opportunity is and the memories you will treasure. I lost my dad several years ago and I would give anything to have another trip. When I was younger I learned how to travel from him as he was a globe trotting business man. But as his health declined, we also learned how to slow down, how to travel at a different pace, how to sit on a bench and take in the experience rather than rush through. We leave this week for our much anticipated (and delayed thanks to Covid) trip to Italy. We will be taking our 1yr old daughter and both my mother and mother-in-law. Always treasure these experiences. Thanks for another great episode. (I love your dads side commentary videos).
Hi Emily-thank you so much for watching and for sharing. This means a lot to us. Seems like we are always chasing travel, but the more we do this, the more we realize all we want is more time and meaningful experiences with the people we love, so why not combine them? :) enjoy your travels with your family!
Not sure if I can do 2 month trip with parents, but my family of 4 took my mom, mother-in-law and my aunt to Italian trip to celebrate all 3 of their 70th birthdays (all born same year). It was very memorable for my kids who got to spend time with their grandmothers and great aunt in a different country and continent. And vice versa. With unforgettable shared memory.
welcome to Singapore guys....hope you guys have a good stay here.....go try all the local hawkers centres. Treasure the time you have with your parents, i wish i had the capability and the chance to do that with them.....but........
yes! i've been to singapore, and sentosa island, way back in 1986 ... aside from crazy rich asians, wonderful to see all the changes, i started watching your channel from your van adventure in sydney, we've finally had 2 weeks of sunny weather, yay! in fact the east coast of Oz has had a whole year of rain in 3 months, keep doin' what you're doing, safe travels xjas.
Yeah, spend as much time as you can with your parents now as they might be gone sooner than when you plan to do so. There is a Chinese saying that goes "树欲静而风不止,子欲养而亲不待" which kinda translates to "The tree wants to remain quiet, but the wind won't stop. The son wants to serve his parents in their old age, but they are no longer around.". There is absolutely no better time for filial piety.
Welcome to Singapore! Loved this video. So different to other travel vlogs with the perspective of travelling with your parents. This makes me miss travelling with mine and I cannot do that anymore as my mom passed away like 10 years ago.
Loved this, and the reality of not always being able to have that time with your parents. Pulls on the heartstrings, but so important to say and appreciate!!
Wow, I never knew much about Singapore but it seems like such an interesting place. Everything seems so new, artistic, clean, innovative, etc. Wish cities in the U.S. had stuff like this.
Great travel vlog, especially sharing your insights regarding appreciating and spending more time with your parents even though there’re bound to be differing needs and opinions. Always good to have some botany tips too! ;) And what a nice surprise to see my neighbourhood food centre appear in the middle of your video! Incidentally, I just bought my dinner from there. LOL
Hi Edric! Thanks for the thoughtful comment! It’s been an eye opening and fulfilling trip :) full of botany too!!! :) yes! We happened upon the food center and loved it!
Thanks for visiting our Singapore. I enjoyed your vlog. There are many more free places to visit and enjoy. Our local food at our hawker centre should be ventured. Cheers !!!
Ahh, in North Queensland there is a plant that looks similar to that sensitive plant only it grows bigger into a bush. It also moves when touched. I used to throw a handful of sand at it front a few metres away and it would just vanish.
What Josh said about time with our parents is so right. Treasure them when they are with us ... guess you guys did not have that much time in Singapore. Would dare say Singapore's zoo is pretty good, and there is a wetland - Sungei Buloh for the nature loving in you.
Nice video! Thanks for charring. All tho I do have a question. With all that food and drink water (for the warm weather) and long walks, when you need to use the restroom, is there a lot of restrooms to use when out walking?
If you go by land mode it is indeed the Southernmost tip of the Asian land mass, It was the Southern tip of the Malaysian peninsula but because of the connecting land bridge to Singapore the point is moved further Southward, Just look at the map.
Yes! We didn’t list it in our costs because we used our hotel points to cover our 5 nights in Singapore, so there were no costs for us, but the hotel we stayed in was definitely expensive - $200/night!
@@LisaAndJosh Next time come to Singapore between January - February. Very sunny but not very hot like the rest of year. With plenty of cold wind blowing from the East. Avoid coming to South East Asia from May onwards. Moonsoon and very hot sun. Even the soldiers here dies from heatstroke.

Hey how come you guys don’t include accommodation in your daily tally of costs? Your experience of Singapore is totally different to mine. I found it really expensive and every cab driver short changed me.
Hey Rick! Good q! We didn’t include accommodations in our budget this time because we were able to use our hotel points to cover our five nights at this hotel, luckily, so we didn’t have any costs there. Sorry to hear that that was your experience there!. we found the Grab ride app to be the most affordable and straightforward to use when not taking public transport or walking.
All cabs in Singapore are metered and exact, so there should be no chance they could short change you, unless they went about a longer route than you’d expected. Or did you mean they didn’t give you the correct change back upon cash payment?
Hey. I was paying by cash. They short changed change by as much as $20 in one instance. In another the driver distracted me by disputing the amount I’d given him. I should have held my ground and called the police but I was in a hurry. Cab drivers in Singapore are the most dishonest I’ve dealt with.
@@rick7081 I'm sorry you had that terrible experience, and you should definitely report them! But I can assure you it is definitely not common. Still, it's always better to pay by card, if only just for the transactional record.
