Here are some additional tools that may be useful:
    - A bench vise
    - A bench grinder / wire brush combination
    - A 3/8-inch socket hex/torx set
    - An anti-seize compound
    - A penetrating oil
    Great content, as usual!

I'd probably get 2 torque wrenches. A 3/8 dr that measures ft lbs, and a 1/4 dr that measures inch pounds. Maybe add a decent code reader to the list, one that has the recommended fix for the codes and live data. Harbor Freight has a really nice one for around $130. And, a set of the large size impact socket set for axle nuts. Lately I've been adding to my service tools, the last thing i got was a ball joint service kit and a wheel bearing kit, like the one you have there. I also picked up a blind bearing slide hammer kit. Usually, i see whats discounted at HF each month and i also joined their Inside Track Club. It paid for itself the day i joined by saving me $30 on an air compressor.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have kept my stepdad’s tools; I believe all snap on in a large roll around snap on tool box. He was a mechanic all of his career, from the smallest car to 18 wheelers. He had wrenches the size of your torque wrench. I was a dumbass back then saying I wanted new. The box would have easily cleaned up, along with the tools. They were a little greasy, but that was the character.

All great tools for sure I am missing about 1/2 of the list there like I need the fuel line disconnect kit but it's on my future list. One item I found I can't do any repairs without are pocket pry bars for taking apart electric connectors at least on GM and Mercedes, they have really bad connectors that after 100k miles don't want to come apart. Also break caliper tool to compress the pistons on break jobs, I started off using C-clamps but they are a pain to use.

I would say that a torx set is necessary tool these days, especially if you own a European vehicle. But even the domestic makes use a lot of them and they're relatively cheap. Allen head sockets/wrench used to be a needed item, but I almost never use them any more. Have a set of SO 3/8" metric Allen socket set, can't even recall the last time I used those or regular metric allen keys. Been replaced by torx.

Great info and collection of tools. Have to find a balance between cost and frequency of use. If it's something I might need once or twice a year, I see if my local parts store has it as a loner, or decide if it's worth buying. Also, is the specialty need tool cheaper than paying for a shop to do the work for me. Recent case, the dreaded hemi tic, broken exhaust manifold bolt. Was it cheaper to buy a bench top sander to get the exhaust manifold square again, or take the manifold to a machine shop and have them do it.....I now have a bench top sander. :)

Yea those can be factors, how much are you going to need or use the tool!! it changes also with how much more experence you have on fixing harder repairs, the more experence and confidence you have you start branching out into more specialty tools!!! thanks for joining in and sharing your take!!

The jump pack was one of the best purchases I ever made! The convenience and peace of mind it offers is excellent, but being able to plug a DC tire inflator makes it even better. Makes filling tires more convenient and it also gives me more use than only jumping dead batteries.😊
