      Wish I could comment on this video. I like the format of this. Ur happy energy and accent is awesome, and I hope you can help many. But these budget/ finance shows need some shame and ass kicking 😂From the ones that I've seen. I'm curouious to see if a more positive reinforcement can fix broken finance people.

    I think it is really cool that you listened to your audience and adjusted the thumbnail. At the same time, it must be difficult to establish your empathetic, high-quality show in a market where drama and negativity are major selling points. What i took from this couple that really impressed me is that he has a really good growth mindset that will be essential as he figures out life on the outside. He's listening and learning without ego. He's open to learning from people who have information and experience he doesn't have. So few people have this but from what he described about his time inside, this is something he developed in there that will serve him very well for the rest of his life.

    I'm impressed with the financial standing of the couple. I expected the worse, but their finances is positive largely because of the low rent granted by the sister in law and their savings. I like the strategy outlined by Romain, especially paying off the 5k credit card debt. That action alone will fire them up to tackle the other debts. I hope their budget for their wants increases after 6 months. USD200 seems low considering the hard work they expend, especially once the baby arrives. I wish their family all the best!

    Nice episode Romain!
    It’s great to see that he’s trying to turn his life around after 16 years in prison! Most men who have spent a lot of time in prison like your guest has studies/research show they have been physically assaulted by other inmates which cause more PTSD! No way I’d ever date someone who has been in prison at such a young age especially since he has only been out 5 months. I do wish them the best. Hopefully he has really changed!

    After going without most of the comforts we take for granted, he has a foundation that could potentially really help them save for the future if he is truly committed to improving financially. Not to mention the price of Cup Noodle, an extra tray of chow, and not needing to pay $0.20 per minute to talk on the phone is way down from the inflation of the correction system. Good luck!

    Romain, you just don't stick to the 'traditional safe' couples. Hats off to Samori for listening to mentors who knew he would take the steps to change the trajectory of his life. I applaud him for that. I always said, gang members are some of the smartest ppl out there, they can move products with low overhead, and make a profit _ I'm not glorifying this young mans life, but one has to understand why some of these young men can't leave the lifestyle. The gang members took a corporate business model and used it to their advantage (though some business just as gangster, just got suits running them) Kudos for not wanting to live in that cycle Samori. Romain, when you told them to take 5k and pay off the ccd, I was like "when you have saved that much, you'd rather keep it in the bank and find another way to do it" and they did. Look ya'll stay with the sister until you got more than enough saved and then you can move and not worry about depleting your savings, for a savings or a move. Good luck to you both.

    • @jordandowland7256

    It's interesting seeing what you recommended. I would look at it in a simple way. Live on one income and use the other to pay off debt and get used to one income being gone for a short time when the baby is born. Any money over the base incomes coming in will have half into savings for 20% down on a home and you have the extra go into date night / travel account.
    I did something similar before I retired early. I lived off the projected social security check and the rest went into retirement. Now I am retired and living on less than my SS check and I am doing Roth conversions and so far have not touched the 401k. If I don't see the money I don't miss it.

    I don’t understand Romain. He was totally critical of that Mexican kid from Seattle, that dental assistant who only made $20/hr even though he is 21 yrs old. But not so critical of this 30 yr old who only makes $4 more per hour (20:12) “decently good.” The 21 yr old is doing better because by the time he turns 30, he’ll be making a whole lot more than $24/hr. I think it’s the circumstances that probably matters. For a violent felon, any wage is good especially when they’re only making 5 cents per hour inside the prison.

      Very very different context!!

    • @HeyShae
      @HeyShae Місяць тому +1

      The dramatic difference between the two is the mentality. The dental assistant was not taking his finances seriously, he had generational financial habits that needed to be broken and needed someone to almost give him a reality check before he continued the family patterns. It's optimistic to think he will chase a better career and income if he doesn't learn the big financial basics early on when he has never been exposed to that before. This guy has completely turned his life around and is coming to Romain for preventative help before having a baby, ready to take the steps he needs to be proactive.

    Hey Romain, I hope all is well with you! It has been a hot minute since I have commented on your videos. Like always, I love the content. Last I commented I mentioned that I had gotten a conditional job offer with one of the cruise lines. I haven't continued with that because I have to get my medical sorted out. I didn't think that one had to go through a medical / physical, but since you have to go through the Coast Guard it kind of makes sense. Until I get my medical sorted out, I will be doing ridesharing, but not strictly Uber, nor as an independent contractor but as an employee. I will also not be using my personal vehicle to do it. Now, this all depends on whether I pass my physical driver's assessment that I have scheduled on Monday (6/03/2024). I've already been through the interview and written assessment, now it's just the physical driving assessment. If I pass that, then they will offer a conditional job offer. Anyway, I loved this episode! I hope that this couple has an amazing marriage that is blessed. I am so proud of this young man for turning his life around. Please let us know when the baby arrives!
