“Okay, so we’re doin’ this.” I do love this song too! Societal norms are not inherently evil, since they are successful for a majority. Most 19yo kids do NOT know what they want to do with their lives or have the tenacity to work for it, the way you did. There is also a HUGE difference between the ungrateful “royal” daughter who doesn’t have respect for her parents and the daughter who tries her best to honor her parents but still has an inward calling. I love that Moana threw herself into the role completely, becoming skillful and earning the respect of everyone. After doing that, the voice of the calling was still strong, proving itself to be valid. I love Abuela's line, “You are your father's daughter, Stubbornness and pride, Mind what he says but remember, You may hear a voice inside.” Respect, communication and determination form a triangle for success.
I think sing-a-long is simply the branding of lyric videos for kid songs. I mean, how many 5-6yo know the word lyric?

Awesome video. You noticed a lot of things about the song that I didn't. You are quick and well spoken.
I personally think this song is amazing. The use of the minor chord is perfect. I like to think of the song like the I - IV - V stuff is sort of like the rigidity and conformity of the island and the C#m is like Moana's desire for freedom. The two duke it out throughout the entire song. It's insane how Disney made conformity and repressing yourself sound so catchy lol. For some reason this song has 170k dislikes on UA-cam right now. I have no idea why, I personally think it's brilliant. 4 chord masterpiece.
