I love that you can hear the difference between the two systems. Jake used the vocoder's ability to have sharp note starts/ends to good effect, while Swatkins does the same with singing slightly before/after the keyboard note. The subtle differences at the extremes of the note range as well.
Probably not everyone's taste but definitely mine. Love it! Very much reminds me of Herbie Hancock around 1980, e. g. Feets Don't Fail me Now. I also love those little details, e. g. Jake's cheat sheet, Swatkins' mobile phone and of course the tambourine on the Rob's hi-hat.
Super fun! Great contrast of old vs. new tech. I love the soul of the talk boxout at the same time vocoders can do things not possible with TB. Awesome session.
@@charleslambert3368 Wow, I thought vocoders were more recent but you are correct. First real musical use looks like late 60's early 70's which is also early
As a keyboardist this would be my ultimate Scary Pocket. Thank you, Steve and thank you Jake for your talent. Thank you, Jack Conte, for your vision (and talent) and bringing all of these phenomenal musicians together. I've been following since the days of "Hey, It's Pamplamoose".
After enjoying this a LOT, I finally figured out what it sounds like: A funk duet between (Swatkins) a digitized human, & (Sherman) a sapient robot. lol
I've waited 25 years for this and love you both. I Lose! Got the best versions of both of these "effects" but never learned to play an instrument well.
If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend the book "How to Wreck a Nice Beach" by Dave Tompkins, which traces the history of vocoding and all other techniques used to mimic voice in both music and speech processing. A terrific read. It's a lot deeper than you think. (The title is a play on the phrase "how to recognize speech")
As I always say its good to have both lol I use both🤣 Vocoder is so lovely for those warm pad harmonies. But that talkbox lead is soul snatching no matter what!
So many people are going to watch this and realize it’s two different techniques. Somewhere some teacher will use this video to explain the difference. Funk 101
This one deserves a re-release/Best of... The Swatty-Jake dual is money. That haunting synth line comp'd by Jack just slithers between Kanye's timeless groove. I share Ryan's priceless enthusiasm.
Lovebot Sw4tK1ns 2.0 returns, and is ready to do battle for your love! Lol, this was pretty fun to listen to. It gives me major Flight of the Conchords vibes.
This might actually be magic. The skill, the art, the energy - absolutely genius work. Please everyone @kanye on this one. just brilliant. Thank you all for all your hard work!

Somehow Swatkins is in every single funny and funky (at the same time) video from Scary Pockets! This dude is something else!
This was insanely cool. Love the back and forth.
love it... feels like the the good ole times with Zapp and Roger Troutman...
The guitar licks - so minmal so perfect. Great musical moment from everyone.
Oppositional dynamics are bullshit, me and Jake decided we’re gonna join forces and fight for your rights to party.
You both rule! This comment deserves 100x as many likes.
I will exercise that right.
You're an impressive player, Swattie.
Super fun! Great contrast of old vs. new tech. I love the soul of the talk boxout at the same time vocoders can do things not possible with TB. Awesome session.
Both technologies come from the 1930s

WOW! This is a fantastic production and quite a dichotomy, talkbox v. vocoder. This is a phenom cover, too.
I don't think anybody lost, this slaps!
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Such a cool premise executed perfectly by both musicians.
Also, grinning like an idiot the whole time xD
Fun. Silly. Incredible musicianship. I really love what you guys create.
Another example of off-the-charts creativity from SP. Thanks guys!
Late to the party but this scratched a part of my brain I've never been able to reach before
U GUYS MURDERED THAT....I LOVE LIVE MUSIK....
Can't get over this. I haven't been keeping up with the new releases, but damn, this one got me back into it. That Swatkins... I had to look him up.
I love Swatkins! Had to look him up, too, after the cover of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. My favorite is Already Told You. Such a good groove.
This is 🔥🔥🔥 I've been listening on loop since it got released on Spotify hahaha!
More Zapp. Love IT
After enjoying this a LOT, I finally figured out what it sounds like: A funk duet between (Swatkins) a digitized human, & (Sherman) a sapient robot. lol
Never clicked on a video so fast before. Was not disappointed!

I’m so happy these people exist
It's clear that who won was us watching this masterpiece
Ryan and Jack are dialled in as if they were actually reffing this battle. No low blows!
You are the best !!! 👍👍👍
This is painfully funky. WOW. 🔥
What a banger.
So sick, I can't stop listening to this one
As I always say its good to have both lol I use both🤣 Vocoder is so lovely for those warm pad harmonies. But that talkbox lead is soul snatching no matter what!

Amazing lika always!! You guys need to do a Steely Dan cover, pls!

Hi. I am a music professor. This has already happened. Have did it.
And a few people will just think it's their natural full-throat singing voices. Sigh.
@@DavidMacDonald that's awesome in many ways!

This at least shows how the talkbox words, also it’s a banger of a track 😎
I am a music teacher about to use this video to explain the difference between Vocoder and Talkbox!
Mind. Blown. Thank you.
oh my god this is the greatest things ive ever heard
I would love to see the behind the scenes of this session.
Okay but Ryan Lerman was killing it with those 90s X-men cartoon chords
Hahaha! That’s exactly the sound
That bass tone is mental. The guitar tone is tasty too. There’s something about voice box that is so lovely
134k is underrated this is amazing ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Swatkins: "I'm afraid to disagree but I must insist: you lose 'cause I'm the best, can't you seee."
Jake: "And I took that personally."
Good to see Jack back behind the keyboard!
so fuckin cool thank you for making me smile

Nailed it!
Fuck. We'd lose if you guys didn't put this together. Fantastic!
Oh this hits me right in my Funkybone!!! Damn!!

I wish we could like a video twice. A great version of Kanye's song.
You can! Just unlike it first. 🤡
Or like it from a second account. 😁
holy shit! supa dupa funk.
No one lost ❤️ Gundamn that's some music 🔥💯
Freaking brilliant
Very nice !!!
Need to throw in that harmoniser shit that Imogen Heap and Bon Iver popularised too
Holy. That was great.
Confident this is the best SP video of all time!
All it’s missing is a bunch of big floor Toms but this was absolutely sic! Thank you for this inspiration!

Always love me a good talk box!
Fantastici

Whoooooweeee!!! 💥🔥🔥🔥💥
Are these men from Excellent Gentlemen? I prefer the talkbox in general but on this song, the guy on vocoder was way more cool. lol
Holy crap.
Vocoder vs voicebox: should be the most annoying battle in the world but this was awesome 👌🏽 👏🏽
Show!!
Holy shit that was great
Do a funky cover of 'we are the robots' by kraftwerk. And yes, you should wear the suit for the video.
Lovebot Sw4tK1ns 2.0 returns, and is ready to do battle for your love!
Lol, this was pretty fun to listen to. It gives me major Flight of the Conchords vibes.
🔥🔥🔥
im glad that jacob collier didn't suddenly appear and do another battle with them
Nice 👍🏼👍🏼
I *LOVE* this :)
Very Vulfpeck meets Chromeo. J'approuve
Would you guys ever cover something from TWRP? Can you out- or re-funk the funkiest band I know? (I suggest Synthesize Her)
OMG YEEESSSS!!!!!
Best idea
Please for the love of God
