János Starker: Legacy

A child prodigy, cellist János Starker performed and taught for more than seven decades. In August 2010, we (Paula Gordon and Bill Russell) recorded five hours with Mr. Starker. With his usual humor and insight, he shared with us the lessons of a life live as an international star and a committed teacher. This ten minute program gives a small taste of the János Starker ... and his legacy.

I am grateful that this segment, which gives some flavor of the inspiration and greatness of the man, has been put up here. Today, there is a memorial service being held in honor of his life, in Toronto. My hearts are with you folks, and I join with all who have learned from this sage, superb performer, excellent teacher.

Wonderful Starker! But the French don't say: "Musicier". It doesn't even exist! They say: " Faire de la musique" ou "jouer de la musique" (. Make, or play, music.)
