Nice one to end on. I get almost as much enjoyment just watching fish, than actually catching them. So watching _your_ carp swim by is quite delightful. Reminds me of a summer a good 25 to 30 years ago on the banks of the River Avon in Warwickshire. My parents had a property that backed onto the river. It was opposite a small island that held the lock and where the weir ran to. So we didn't get boat traffic on our side. This summer from June onwards, on the bank of the island was a large stand of rushes and immediately downstream a group of lily pads and below that, was about 3 or 4 large bushes (15ft tall'ish) that overhung the river. The river's main current was on my side, so where the bushes and lily pads were, was a nice quiet section of slack water. And it was here that a group of some 8 or so carp took up residence. The largest, a fat and chunky mirror, must have weighed in at low to mid 20's. When I first saw them, my instinct was _"Carp. Catch them!" But then when I started to feed them with catapulted bread, I started to enjoy that more than actually going after them. Theory was. I can keep feeding them and they'll be here all summer. Or I could fish for them, maybe catch one and spook the whole shoal and never see them again. So I fed them. One afternoon, catapulting out bread, one crust veered off and landed on one of the pads that was half submerged. And where the bread landed, it was also half in and half out of the water. but still sat in the middle of the pad. It was a couple minutes later, that I noticed one of the carp, definitely the "big girl", leave the protection of the overhanging branches of the bush and started to make a bee line towards the pad where the bread was. She got to the pad, nosed it and slurped the tasty morsal, and in one swift she'd turned around and sank back from where she'd come from. We had big floods that autumn, easily 10 foot or more above summers normal, and the carp were never seen again. But the enjoyment of just watching them will last.
Hi Neal, Thank you for the kind words. it is very much appreciated. Hopefully I'll get back there one day and manage to make the acquaintance of the dark scaley fish...🎣🎣
Great video, that's my sort of fishing. I haven't the same rods and reels, but the sheer excitement of spotting, then catching close in is intoxicating. Also watched some of your other videos. One of you slipping down a bank. A few months ago I too slipped over, but unfortunately for me it was on the Wye, I was on my back, then watched in horror as a Barbel pulled in my favourite reel and new Barbel rod in a flooded river. But I carried on to catch a pb Barbel. Once again very good videos.
@@InTheEdgeWithAlex I slip up on my backside all the time and it was great to see you leave everything in the video, even the things that don’t go to plan. Great humility, really adds to video and makes “Noddy Anglers” like me feel much better! 🤣
After watching a few of your vids, as this one started it dawned on me what was familiar??!! ....Jack Hargreaves from Out of Town. Say what you will, the country side is still, the only place where i will settle down, westward leading still proceeding....out of town. Thanks for that.
Give me a prehistoric looking old 'un all day long...sadly harder to find these days. I am at the point in my angling where I seldom weigh carp these days and merely rejoice in a character fish from a peaceful venue. This fantastic vid captures the essence perfectly.....thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words. I quite agree. I think as anglers we often put far too much stead in pounds and ounces rather than an overall appreciation of the pursuit of our quarry. That said I do still carry scales and will use them if I think a particular capture is approaching a pb but that tends to be reserved for species such as perch and crucians.
Very true 👍 like most people I go fishing to try and catch fish but my enjoyment of a trip doesn't rely on whether I achieve that or not (which is lucky🤣🤣)
Hi Alex what a lovely Mirror dark deep bodied and huge !! Im guessing 26/27lb ?? ... Well worth the wait .. I bet your well pleased with that mate !! Well the mystery mirror must be very special as you say gives you an excuse to go back !!. We have all struck and fallen over ...i did that on a swim with an incline and ended up sliding into the lake with the fish lol !! What a cracking lake that is , turns up some lovely looking fish well jealous . Love the videos it's just the simplicity , the editing and narration superb.. Remember even the great Chris Yates has fallen over playing / catching carp. Catch you soon cheers Nick
Thanks Nick, it was certainly a nice way to round off this short autumn campaign especially using the mkiv. I will be back for another go at the mystery mirror and the dark scaley fish but neither of those are really about size. From the picture I've seen the dark scaley is just an absolutely stunning carp and as for the mystery mirror it's more about my (bruised) ego and proving a point!🤣
another awesome video. the mystery mirror escapes again!!! cant believe it, but what a result at the end there. how big was the fish ,did you weigh it?
The Mystery Mirror seems pretty determined to remain that way! I rarely weigh the fish I catch but I can safely say that it was comfortably the biggest I've caught this season and probably should have done although an ounce over X or under Y doesn't really matter to me👍
Do you color grade these films? Also do you use manual settings? Can you give me a description of your camera settings and how you film? Thanks It looks like I’m going to end up watching every video.
Hi Country Dirt Kid, I'm almost embarrassed to say that everything is filmed on nothing more complicated than a phone camera (galaxy s21) on a tripod with the editing/audio done with the basic Samsung camera app. No manual settings or filters, just point and shoot. I just make sure that I'm out on the the bank by first light and Mother Nature takes care of the rest👍 Thanks for your support and its almost worth wading through the rest of the videos for some of the dawn scenes and sunrises that I've been fortunate enough to capture.
@@InTheEdgeWithAlex What? That’s crazy, you do very good work with such simple tools. I’m really impressed. I may buy some prepaid phones and just use them as cameras for my own channel. Excellent work.
Hi Callum. Yes, it was seeing your picture in the Freshwater Informer that persuaded me to go back to the estate lake for the autumn when I'd planned to fish elsewhere. I only saw that fish once though and the low water conditions and heavy weed meant I pulled off after this video. A stunning fish and a brilliant capture on your part - well done 👏 🎣🎣
Well done Alex, superb fish caught in a stunning English lake, not jealous at all, he says, lying through his teeth
Thanks mate👍I'm not sure I deserved it after the mess I made of the first two though🤣
Nice one to end on.

100% with you on that and a great story to tell👍There are plenty of days where I never quite get round to casting...
Mate, what bad luck and such good angling right up to the end.
Love the carp vids
Thanks 👍 🎣
Wonderful fishing, immensely enjoyable to watch, thank you

Great video ! Thanks . Lovely to see the old gear being used .
Thanks. Cane rods and centrepin reels aren't always the most effective way of fishing but without a doubt they're the most enjoyable 😉 🎣🎣

Thank you👍

This channel just keeps giving, the best one so far👌they should be getting upwards of 20000 views
Thank you👍 it was one of those magical mornings where, despite doing my best to mess things up, it came together perfectly at the end🎣🎣

@@InTheEdgeWithAlex I'm kind of the same, I'd be weighing a big stripey, for sure!
Effort =reward! Well angled 👍🎣
Thank you 👍
Enjoyed the journey, proper fishing 🎣
Thanks👍 hopefully I'll get back to set the record straight with the 'mystery mirror'...
great video's a man after my own heart using vintage tackle is a real buzz its such a shame about the sound is not very good
Win some lose some, but seems most of all you are enjoying the journey which counts for everything in my book, great watch again.
