_"Don't go down the octave"_, she says.
Geoff: _"I'm sorry, I can't hear you... right - I'm going down the octave!"_
You cannot reason...
He dosent how down a octave but he does go low
And then... one more time.
@@megairishmom If my ears are right (No perfect pitch here, just remnants of school band) sounds like a fifth, which is still crazy with how low he already was.
@@Abunai_Gaming yes he goes from a second octave C to a first octave F
Voiceplay oogie boogie really shows his range
Right time for oogie boogie, have fun. :-)
Absolutely! If you really want to experience Geoff's amazing range, you have to check out Oogie Boogie's Song!
Oogie Boogie, Little Mermaid are POWERFUL. GEOFF SCREAMS.
BLACKBIRD IS A MASTERPIECE!!!
Definately Oogie Boogie from Nightmare before Christmas it shows his range best for me.
I ABSOLUTELY agree. In his videos, he says he prefers singing in his upper range which, he says, is his natural range. But there's no denying...he's a phenomenal bass!
He: *INHALE* "You can not reason with a heeeead-leeeess..."
She: "Don't go down the octave!"
He: "Don't mind if I do: MAAAAAAAAAN!!!"
She: o.O
😂😂 I was NOT expecting that!!
Not inhale note. Is a freacking bass chest voice. AMAZING. Obviously.
You cannot reason with AAA HEEEEEE(normal low chest voice)
AAAAAAHDLEEEEES(fracking bass chest voice)
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN(freacking subharmonic note)
@@juli-bass-singer"Inhale" as in "taking a breath", not "ingressive phonation" 😄
@@juli-bass-singer think before commenting
Its a like G#1-F1 jump lol
Geoff's version of "Blackbird" shows off his range more, and the arrangement is fantastic.
Definitely.... And it also shows his clarity of diction, especially in the very last word... Beginning and end are crisp... Not just a super low growl...
I agree
5 part Geoff... enough said.
High and Dry too.
Geoff has an amazing upper range he can sing almost up to C5 in full chest
So crazy!
@@jessicasopranonotes His part in the Little Mermaid Medley really shows his range off.
His range is shown off on Beatles in 5 minutes as well.
@@smallfamily2604 not as good, as in the new Medley
@@catwhowalksbyhimself that D5 slide to D2 and subharmonic to D1 is insane
You wanna hear this man's range the oogie boogie song will blow you away no doubt.
Oogie Boogie cemented him as my favorite bass singer. Blew my dang mind!
This lady really said “don’t go down the octave”. I’m dead.
Her excited squeal when he did it a second later, AND held it clearly, in full resonance, for a total of five seconds.
"Don't go down the octave."
Geoff: I do what I want.
If you've only just dipped your toes into Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci, you have a rollercoaster ride ahead of you.
That being said, you should check out Geoff's cover of "The Bare Necessities", and Voiceplay's cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song". Another one that I, myself, just heard, is "Daddy Sang Bass".
Great recommendations, thanks!
"Blackbird" by Geoff is incredible. What a range on that man's voice.....
Daddy sang bass is awesome
The ending of Daddy Sang Bass turns this old curmudgeon into a puddle of tears, every time.
Well the holy trinity of bass (Avi Kaplan, Tim Foust and Geoff Castelucci) can actually sing anything. Their range in immaculate!
The amazing thing is the F1 isn't even the lowest he has sung.
So crazy!
That last note was a subharmonic F1. Not as low as he can sing by almost an octave. You have some very good music ahead of you both Geoff's solo and with Voiceplay. Also I'm sure people will be pointing you to Home Free with Tim Foust and some of the older Pentatonix with Avi Kaplan. If you really want to hear Geoff's range, check out his cover of Blackbird.
Awesome reaction, Geoff is a force of nature!
Don't worry about not realizing the "heads" were all him. I'm VERY familiar with Voiceplay and Geoff and I didn't notice until my second listen.
If you like range on your basses you should check out Ring of Fire by Home Free. Two basses, both with pretty incredible range.
I recognized that the heads were all him because I'd seen Sixteen Tons, Take Me Home Country Roads, Bare Necessities, and Saddle Up, among others, before seeing this and to quote Layne Stein, who was in the Saddle Up video (not singing or beat boxing), "Wasn't that you in four different shirts?"
The original song was sung by Bing Crosby. However, Thurl Ravencroft (Tony the Tiger and the Bass in the Haunted Mansion @ DIsney) did a low version just like Geoff's. Very typical of a late 40's early 50's song. Watch all of them, they're GREAT! (See what I did there?). Geoff and Thurl have a similar sound to them. I could listen to him read the dictionary in the low voice all day long.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, Soprano Notes, I love your explanations and your sense of pitch. I am a tone deaf dad that has one son that is a band director and a second that is a drama kid. I miss 80% of all the things that go on in songs, but watching the reactions, I learn to notice the parts I miss. Well done!
Oh wow Terry, your comment was so moving. Thank you for the knowledge, I did not know Bing Crosby sang the original. You have no idea how much it means to me that my videos are helpful to you. Your story is such great motivation for me to continue making videos. So, a big thank you to you!
As a fellow basso perfundo, I can tell you unequivocally, no. A C5 should NOT be that easy! I can match him all the way down, but not all the way up...
I am a basso cantante and Geoff has my upper and lower range beat by a mile.
I am a bass/baritone since learning subharmonics and growl my range goes G1-G5 but those extremes are super tough, I’m sick rn and I can barely resonate a C2
@@upsidedownpyramid7617, my lowest resonate note is a B1 off-mic, so I am not doing much better. For something in the key of E, this works great to do a perfect 5th inverted with a chord-driven harmony. In the key of A, though, I have to use E2 for the 5th, which doesn't have the same effect.
Holy crap! Your music knowledge adds something awesome to this song. I’m definitely subbing for more voiceplay!
Geoff’s range is huge. He can sing even lower than an F1 as well, I believe he hit a C#1 in one of VoicePlay’s medley videos
Agree with a lot of the comments below -- the three basso profundos out there in UA-cam land getting a lot of air play are Geoff, Tim Foust from Home Free, and Avi Kaplan formerly of Pentatonix. Both Tim and Avi have partnered up with Peter Hollens for some excellent music that shows off bass range and skill -- Tim with Misty Mountains, and Avi with Black is the Color or my True Love's Hair. All worth a listen!
He did a pun on us. The heads sing only in head voice.
Right now, go listen to his Blackbird cover...go...NOW!!!
Yessss, Blackbird. Not just vocally amazing but so so so beautiful.
His performance of Blackbird is another that is NOT to be missed, and Voice Play's Little Mermaid would take your breath away, should you dare to react to it.
I had been wondering why you weren't commenting on the range, and then I almost spat out my cereal when you finally figured it out! Hilarious! Anyway, your comments and analyses are amazing, I love the breakdowns in music theory and his singing techniques. This was wonderful, thank you. As for recommendations; everyone is suggesting Oogie Boogie (which is amazing, go watch that for sure), but I really love his parts in The Little Mermaid Medley and Queen in 5 min, I think they show his range nicely too (the slides!) and nicely show off the rest of the group too
You need to watch Voiceplay's Oogie Boogie Song to see his full range
Geoff and Tim Foust of Home Free both have subharmonics to kill for but wide vocal ranges as well. Avi formerly of Pentatonix is very close but a tone or two shy at each extreme.
Tim has never used subharmonics, at least in Home Free songs
Yeah, Tim Foust has a 5+ octave range, typically A0 to A5+. He and Geoff have worked together and Geoff even credits Tim with teaching him some things on a video on his channel. Tim has stated he doesn't do subharmonics, though Geoff regularly does.
After wathcing many reactions on Geoff videos, it amazes my that many people don't realize that's all him....Also, his range is outstanding, 5 octaves.
Oogie Boogie Song and Blackbird - both show off his incredible high and low range. And sings an E1 in both. Geoff is amazing. Also check out Tim Foust in the group Home Free. They’re friends and trade bass tips with each other. Tim can be seen singing an E1 in Folsom Prison Blues. They actually collaborated on Voiceplay’s “Just Sing” and had a little bass battle. You should really watch that as they collaborated with a bunch of people from all different groups during COVID (and did it for charity).
I've probably watched his video like 45-50 times. His voice is soooooooo dope.
Geoff’s cover of “Sixteen Tons” is awesome
That’s so funny. The whole time I was wondering, does she realize those are all him?
I couldn't believe I didn't realize that!
Keep in mind that this is a cover of the original song sung by Thurl Ravenscroft (ua-cam.com/video/04uPTBoZiUg/v-deo.html). Geoff puts his own spin at parts, but he also does a great job at channeling his inner Ravenscroft.
SO excited to know that someone else knows who Thurl Ravenscroft is and that is is a cover from a Disney movie. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad! CLASSIC DISNEY!
If you want to be extra nitpicky this has the two songs in sync so you can listen with headphones with one version in each ear. Sort of a shovel and some voodo rituals Geoff managed to completely resurrect Thurl Ravenscroft, it's uncanny. ua-cam.com/video/Li9q1p8fW8w/v-deo.html
React to voiceplay's kidnap the sandy claus that they just uploaded or the little mermaid melody by them as well. They are so good and they're my favorite acapella group Geoff of course being my favorite of them all. Great reaction!!!!! Loved the analysis!!!!
Great recommendations and thank you!
I agree with both those recommendations and I would react to Voiceplay's Sh-Boom because that is really great as well
"Don't go down the octave!"
Geoff; "You don't even need to hold my beer.. MAAAAAN"
Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust both have ranges like geoff. 7:25
I love Avi!! I've never heard of Tim Foust, I'll google search him now 🤗
@@jessicasopranonotes Yea, Tim Foust is the bass for Home Free, he is fantastic, I would recommend Man Of Constant Sorrow by them :)
Avi is amazing but his range is not as broad. Tim absolutely has similar range.
@@jessicasopranonotes if you like basses with amazing range Tim Foust is absolutely someone you should check out!
@@jessicasopranonotes - if you haven't listened to Tim Foust yet, might I recommend Home Free's live version of Your Man since you love range. Any of the live or fine but if you want to laugh hard, listen to this one: ua-cam.com/video/cXU_xd3EtdI/v-deo.html
Great reaction. If you want more of Geoff, check out his rendition of "Blackbird" or VoicePlay's covers of "Oogie Boogie's Song", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and "Mr. Blue Sky"'. You will not be disappointed. And if you are looking for another basso profundo, give a listen to Home Free. Their bass, Tim Faust, has a range equivalent to Geoff's. Happy listening!!!
The first really low note near the end it's a Chest G#1, and at the end it was a C2 - F1 slide, Chest C2 and Sub Harmonic F1. :)
"Don't go down the octave."
Geoff: So you have chosen death.
He started to make tutorials on singling lower. I watched all of them and i came away not actually hearing him speak, my headset was shaking my skull too hard from his casual speaking voice. There are videos of him with his group singing live and the fan cams are picking up the rest of the group and there is a hisss in the background. He was too low for phones... He was doing something, I would be concerned there is no way it's healthy being around him lol. I do want to point out that hiss, and complete destruction of most recording devices starts somewhere in the 1st octave and this strange interaction with those low notes and recordings are documented for Avi Kaplan, Tim Foust too. It's probably the closest thing to supernatural one can observe even though it's not violating the laws of physics. ua-cam.com/video/26s5QkgxtBc/v-deo.html timestamped for crazy bass vibrations.
Yeah, that final note made me wonder if Geoff is actually human. Really, even from this video I felt the low frequency of that final note trembling through my desk and chair, and then to think I didn't even have my bass boosting system turned on. I swear even a deaf would be able to enjoy his singing.
Amazing analysis
Thank you Marcello!
The three heads are him, and in singing in his "head" voice! Great reaction, love the music theory, too! Yes, Tim Foust with Home Free and Avi Kaplan, formerly of Pentatonix can do the same. Tim Foust holds a G1 for about 10 seconds at the end of the music video of Ring of Fire.
Thank you!
Tim holds a *growled* G1 for about 10 seconds. It's pretty easy
Pleeease tell me you know of dimash. His performance on the song ogni pietra shows off incredible range. (Baritone to soprano)
Yes, I've heard of Dimash! I've only seen one performance of his and I don't know much about him.
@@jessicasopranonotes his singing is other worldly. And i noticed you sing soprano so I'd love to see your reaction to his range!
@@jessicasopranonotes Yes, Dimash's Ogni Pietra is very operatic and shows off an insane range. Definitely a must see for any classically trained singer.
To continue to bask in the magic of bass singers try Home Free Ring of fire featuring Avi Kaplan. There is so much there for those who appreciate bass singers with wide range as well as some beautiful high harmonies amazing vocal percussion and a mind boggling 10 second sustained G1.
React to Blackbird it shows Geoff's vocal range better.
Tim Foust of Home Free can hit extremely high and low note
I would love to hear your analysis of Geoff's cover of Blackbird. It's another "Bass singer cover" and like this, it's him, multi-tracked. His range is even more apparent in that one. I think you'd like it.
I'm a bass myself (nowhere near the caliber or control of Geoff's lower range), but that C5 is next to impossible for me, even in falsetto. So, I don't have his upper range control either. He has a 5+ octave range. I'm lucky if I have a 2.5 or 3 with falsetto. After watching him, though, I really want to learn subharmonic techniques.
Love this song! Have become a VOiceplay and Geoff fan over the last year- That said - I love your reactions. To this song, as well as more generally! I feel I learn something every time you react!
Hey. I don't know how you feel about heavy metal, but I think you'd find singer Floor Jansen very interesting. She fronts the band Nightwish but is extremely versatile and has training in a few different vocal styles that she puts to use in the band's music. The usual starting point is Ghost Love Score (Live at Wacken 2013).
"I wanna be a bass! Can I be a bass?"
Geoff uses subharmonics to sing those extreme low notes. If you practice them yourself you probably COULD sing in the bass range :)
You think he’s good check out the man that taught him to sing bass tim Foust
Watch honey I’m good to see him hit b#1 and mayday to see him sing tenor. His group is home free
I know it's been a lot of time so my answer is late, sorry about that. But at some point in that video you asked if it was normal for basses to sing a C5 so, C5 can be reached by basses in general, but Geoff is baritone with bass notes so he can sing it as well.
I also am baritone and my personnal vocal range (only singable and without subharmonics or falsetto) goes from E1 to C5.
I mean, I'm 16 years old so that might also be why, but i have never trained my voice at all. I just know i can because I've tried and I got perfect pitch.
I'm a bass singer and my singable everyday range is Bb1- G4 - E5
I LOVED your reaction and your coments about our precious Geoff. He's a genius and a damn good bass singer. He's gifted. ❤
"Should a C5 sound that good?" "Any basses?" Hi, I'm a bass, falsetto comes pretty naturally to me, maybe because I lack the high range in my chest voice or maybe it's just something that comes naturally to some guys. Either way, up to about an A5 sounds good, beyond that is risky :)
Geoff's voice is beyond natural though so he is definitely not someone to set the standard at
Want to see another bass with amazing range? Tim Foust is the group Home Free's bass and has a huge range as well. React to Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens feat Tim Foust and then Home Free's Mayday. Have a great day.
So glad to hear someone else rave about the video cause I was starting to feel a little silly for loving a “simple” fun song so much!
I hope in the seven months since you posted this you have had the opportunity to listen to VoicePlay Oogie Boogie Man. Geoff is the lead on this fantastic video. I do agree with your love of this voice. I am a Baritone who would love to be able to sing Bass like this.
hi, Jeff is fantastic please next time react to "Oogie boogie" by him and his a cappella band Voice Play and if you like bass-voices I recommand Home Free (bass Tim Foust)"Man of constant sorrow and then Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust "Misty mountains". Stay safe
Tim Foust of Home Free is on par with Geoff. They also happen to be friends and you can see Tim pop up in VoicePlay's video for Just Sing.
Oh nice! I just found out about Home Free a couple of months ago and did a reaction to them. They're awesome!
4+ octave chest voice.
There are very few who can make that claim. Good falsetto but the real cherry on top is the control of that subharmonic. His pitch is dead on and his control is maddeningly good. I have a pretty decent reach as a baritone and I can get right into the bass range but my control is nowhere near that good and I lose power really quick trying to push em that low. And of course I have to push them which wears my voice right out.
The genetic jackpot to even be able to do what he does, plus the hours and hours of work he put in to get that control.
Wow! Just wow.
B4 to e1....yes e1...in 10 seconds?you really need to hear voiceplay;oogie boogie song
You should really listen to his version of The Beatles blackbird
Tim Foust of Home Free has a similar range.
He has a new one out where he does a lot of bass. Watch "Ghost Riders in the Sky"
Blackbird I say. React to his cover of Balckbird.
You have such a great year. We didn’t even have to work too hard to tell you about his awesome range. You heard it in the harmonies! Now watch Oogie boogie song by voice play. You really get to see what he can do!
I loved your reaction. Was this your first Geoff Castellucci ( loved the way you said his name) ? He's amazing. As well as voiceplay. I support them on Patreon. Can't wait to see more reactions
Yes, this was my first and only time hearing Mr. Castellucci. I hadn't even heard of the acapella group he is a part of. So fun to learn about new artists.
You were a lot of fun to watch. I know I'll continue. But, As to Voiceplay. I'm so excited 😁 it's been a blast watching new people and their reactions. Especially people like yourself who really understand the depths that they achieve and the shocked appreciation that someone trained really gets. I'll, be watching 😁
Have u seen his video of Sixteen tons? He does all the vocal parts in that too!!

He does an awesome job with The Beatles song "Blackbird". Oogie Boogie's Song is also great as well.
Tim Foust of Home Free is also wide range !!
Have you checked out HomeFree..or Pentatonix? They also have awesome bass singers
I know Pentatonix but I haven't heard anything from Homefree. I've never even heard of them as a group. Have added them to my list of reactions ☺️

Oogie boogie with voiceplay and geoffs cover of Blackbird
Listen to Little mermaid medley. Geoff does something crazy
I've always been told that you can learn to get higher but there's a cap on low notes
Oogie Boogie shows his range even more! Please react to that as well. Also, please check out Voiceplays Little Mermaid Medley and also Home Free and their version of Ring of Fire as well as Man of constant sorrow, End of the Road and then Mayday to see their awesome bass, Tim and his 5 octave range in action. @@jessicasopranonotes Yes and it’s fantastic!
He is truly remarkable. He leaves people lost for words, regularly.
the moment you realize...may be the best moment on the internet :)
Tim Foust of Home Free and Avi Kaplan are also spectacular Bass singers. Tim has a 6 octive range, Avi has the smoothest voice you've ever heard. Well worth listening to.
Geoff is effortless in his changes. So much talent these 3 men have!!!
He is in a group called voice play and they do a cover of "can't help falling in love with you" that is really good. Highly recommend.
I'm a bass and a good day I can get up to a C5, and maybe even a bit higher, and down to a C2, and lower with subharmonics, though not as well as Geoff. None of the other basses I know can do this.
Let me amend my statement... The original was actually not Bing but, confusing singers happens. It was actually Thurl Ravenscroft...I think.
This song came from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad a Disney retelling of the Headless Horseman that came out in 1949 fist sung by Bing Crosby and every year at Halloween I'd watch this on the Wonderful World of Disney
Check out Voiceplay singing Oogie Boogie Song as Geoff Castellucci shows his WIDE RANGE!!!
Amazing
Yes there are 2 other basses out there that also sing that high effortlessly and still have super deep bass tone. Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust. Tim Foust is with a group called Home Free. You should check out Home Free's version of Ring of fire which has Avi and Tim both in it.
I love this video and Jess I just so love you I have watched this SO MANY TIMES. YOU are adorable 😍 💕 💖 ❤️ I have such a crush on you
I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO ... YOU ARE FUN ; ) ... yes i like the song, composition, well ... everything ... but i also like your analysis ... the descending scale to set the scale of the music ... nice analysis .... then the keys and notes he is singing in ... you go on to do this with OOGIE BOOGIE as well ... you like his jumps ... another opera singer found another jump he does ... she said she know less than one hand worth of people who could do it live ...
and the way you end the video ... very very endearing ... thank you ... chuck
Great Reaction!!! Newbie here...
Cant believe 13 thumbs down.. Must be the entire Pee Wee Herman Playhouse Fan Club...
Will go check out your other reacts now. Freddie.. ( The Chocolate side of this Sundae!)
Awesome reaction! New subscriber, great job! Check out his Blackbird cover, I just heard it a few days ago and haven’t heard the Beatles version (did they do it?) but he is AWESOME!!! Thank you for the explanations. Also VoicePlay Oogie Boogie Song is good also. Great group; them, Pentatonix and Home Free...wow!
Home Free's bass Tim Foust just released a Doo Wop album titled " Pieces Of Me". He really exercises his falsetto in the Beach Boys cover "In My Room".
Tim mixed it up by taking the beginning and ending harmonies from another Beach Boys song "Warmth Of The Sun". A cool mashup! Tim even clones himself like Geoff does, to replicate Beach Boys 5 part harmonies. Thanks for your reaction!
Great Breakdown...I actually learned something. :-) T/Y Geoff is a true Basso Profundo.
@Soprano Notes gotta tell you, VoicePlay’s Little Mermaid Medley... Geoff goes insane. You NEED to see that :)
Just loved how much you caught and appreciated Geof. Try his "Blackbird"!!
Geoff's homage to the late, great Thurl Ravenscroft (the original voice of Tony the Tiger and singer of You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch). Check out HIS version 😎.
Yep. Geoff's the very best I've ever heard. Tim Foust also sings tenor very well as demonstrated in Home Free's Mayday.
..
I recommend another of his covers: "Sixteen Tons" - ua-cam.com/video/fzlT80jQ3lo/v-deo.html.
