That’s a non issue for trailers with modern LED lights. I back my duck boat into skim ice covered water and have never once had a problem. Also even most incandescent light trailers for boats SHOULD have waterproof light housings so water should never touch the bulbs anyway.
Just like a lot of folks, I just got my first boat, and this video is amazingly helpful. It wasn't 30 minutes, it didn't have a lot of steps that were just magically done. You didn't just talk about the steps: you actually demonstrated it. You didn't skip basic stuff that experienced boaters don't think that total beginners would need. I've watched a lot of launching/loading videos and yours is by far the best. Thank you!
If you're going to be docking the boat unattended it's a good idea to use bumpers between the boat and dock. If a big wave comes in it might ding up the hull without them.
Zip tie the chain back to itself a handful of links to shorten it. It’ll break easy if needed but keeps the chains off the ground and doesn’t have an influence on the strength of the chain.
Soooo I watched your videos for 1st time boaters and I'm telling you, you have helped me out so much. I listened to the guys at the job and friends you have boats. They really over explained everything. You really broke it down and for that I'm grateful. I took my boys out today for the 1st time and we had a blast! Thanks for the info...
Great video , when I launch , I start on the drivers side and work my way around the boat counter clockwise . When I load up I work from the passenger side clockwise . That way I know Ive touched everything on the boat before heading down the road ..
PLB For us, stands for (at the ramp)…1/plug. 2/lights(disconnect before backing into water). 3/bathroom, everybody go at the ramp or hold it. Plug, Lights, Bathroom Add yours for your trips but, make it a mantra to have a solid pre system.
I like your idea of the "PLB" but recommend that it be accomplished while at the parking/boat prep area and not at the launch ramp which prevents other boaters from launching/recovering. Lights and plug won't take long but the bathroom will.
Good video, covers off all the major stuff. Couple of points though ... - After loading, hook the bow safety chain below the winch strap - Double check the boat is fully winched up before rear straps/transom saver go on - If possible drain boat, bilge/livewell as much as you can before leaving the water - Unplug electrical for trailers with bulb lights, not needed with newer LED types Thanks for posting, will pass this vid on to new boaters I meet and have launch questions.
Great video. Just bought a boat and will not be launching to spring but this video was very helpful. ( line up reference point was very good tip for backing up)
Nice video! Just a suggestion on launching the boat. I noticed that you placed the bow line on the dock without securing it which meant you had to quickly get out of the truck upon launch in order to grab the line because of the possibility of the boat drifting backward and taking off with the line. I suggest that you have a line long enough to reach a cleat or pole on the dock or secure the line to your truck. I have a tie down D ring in the bed of my truck which I use to secure my bow line to using a brass snap swivel connector.
I’m looking into getting my license here soon, since my parents said I’m old enough to start going out on the boat by myself or with my friends now if I want. So this was a good video to have, very helpful
Two things I may add that I do...1. Dont get to close to the dock with the trailer just in case the there is the dock wheel sticking out. Could end up with a broken taillight. 2. I unhook my electrical plug to the trailer before backing into the water. Just in case, hate to short something out. Happy fishing everyone!
Very good educational video. I will have correct you just a bit. The only thing that I would like to correct you on, as you probably already do it, is before you launch the boat, make sure that everything is loaded up. I would go out on the water anytime with you. You know what you are doing!
Very well presented: Comprehensive and detailed with bonus tips and suggestions (align your mirror to the dock and back straight down!). Great presenter (crisp vocal delivery), with demonstrations AND solid video editing. Thank you for a COMPLETE Guide! (NOTE: your audio drops off/almost out from 5:45:00 to 6:00:00)
thank you for this. Last week I hit a boat on the highway that slipped off its trailer, it was dark and I just swerved and clipped it. I have a local radio show on fishing and this week it is on boats and safety and etiquette. This will help me a lot since I don't trailer a boat but fish a lot. I am "Terrible at Fishing" fyi. thank you again, great explanations.
Great video except.......don't rely solely on setting the parking brake unless you have a 4wd. Invest in a brake depresser that goes against the steering wheel to keep the brake pedal engaged. Or you might find your truck in the water.
Your RAM already has a 4 pin light plug. It is on top of where your 7 pin plug is. A good tip is never feel with your fingers to determine whether your hitch is actually over the ball.
Can i please offer some suggestions? As a new boater, you're using a lot of boat lingo. New boaters aren't going to know what "planed" or "trimmed out" mean. I'm having to stop every 30 seconds or so to google some of the boat jargon you're using just so I can kinda grasp what you're saying. If you really did make this video for new boaters wanting to learn, maybe you can explain in the beginning some of the boat jargon you will be using. I just want to learn from a fellow woman boater. Your video is great, and you're a natural teacher. Just need some additional info added, please.
The one thing you didn't do is put on your kill chord, please please put on your kill chord before you start going in gear. If for whatever reason you fall out that boat and you don't have on your kill chord your engine will not shut off and it could run over you or hit another boat. Great video, be safe.
Isn't there a 4 pin connector above the 7 pin on your truck? That eliminates the need for a 7 pin adapter. Most newer trucks have a 4 and 7 pin connection. It's also good practice to unplug your lights before you submerge them into the water. Less likely to short them out.
Nice job! I keep an aluminum extension pole in my boat to use when fishing solo. It has a plastic hook on the end and is invaluable to assist when coming in to the dock. I also noticed you keep your cooler in front of the windshield. Do you bleed out your walleye and then put on ice?
An add on to the other guy from Minnesota. I am in Wisconsin and a lot of the lakes I fish power loading is not allowed. How about a video on loading without and also a video on load and unload without a dock.
Like the boat however I do not recommend power loading a boat like you did in this video here in MN the ramps can't take power loading it pushing the dirt/sand and create a hole at the ramps and then the dnr has to come in and repair them plus if your pro or lower unit hits bottom at a ramp power loading it is a good way to damage the lower unit or prop its best to winch the boat on the trailer less destructive to the ramps and also safer for the boat. By the way that is a sweet boat
Always a great job Miss. Nicole !!! 👋 like always you put us right on the water and ready to go !!! Thank you for this tutorial on Proper boat hook up very informative we F/C/A can definitely use this info , TILL NEXT TIME KEEP CASTING SEE YA ON THE LAKE !!! F/C/A 🎣
hello can i pull a bayliner 25 foot with a 2012 infiniti qx56??? i need to know if i wont have any problems when taking it out of the water thank you so much anyone??????????????????????????
As soon as you powered loaded that boat you broke a crap load of rules. Power loading is not allowed at state launches in CT. Thats why you find it easy.
You look a lot like West Coast Shanelle from Ridiculousness... except 100x prettier, of course. Took me a second, like "why is Shanelle teaching me to hitch a boat?" Great vid, learned a lot!
Don't forget that older trailers need to have the electrics unplugged before going into the water to stop the cold water blowing the hot bulbs...
Exactly!
I’ve never had that problem in 40 years of boating, but I live in a sub tropical climate.
That’s a non issue for trailers with modern LED lights. I back my duck boat into skim ice covered water and have never once had a problem. Also even most incandescent light trailers for boats SHOULD have waterproof light housings so water should never touch the bulbs anyway.

I'm going boating for the 1st time today and this video helped me calm my nerves. Thank you for the clear-cut advice, Nicole!!
Buying my first boat Monday.

That boat is my dream setup!!! 20ft, wide, Ulterra, Helixs, dual Mercs, suspension seats, great storage. Please keep the vids coming!
Thank you! It's an amazing setup!
I know right! 👌
why did you go with that boat ? is it like a lund?
Starting at a cheap price of 50k. Sadly I’ll never be able to afford
@@Oldmanflyfishing Me either unless I find a smoking deal on a used one in about 5 to 10 years. Lol

Dropping my new boat this weekend for the 1st time. I've been watching a few videos and this was a good 1. Thanks from ft lauderdale
That is a nice strap system! This video is much appreciated. I understand it when I hear it from you, vs my husband!
Haha thanks Bonnie!

How many times you drive home with no trailer lights? Alot I bet
@@jakeporter8476 Once about 10 years ago when I first got a boat. Told myself never again. And...fast forward i did it again.

Thanks!
Great video! I'd love to get into boating but I'm a bit intimidated. This was very helpful and easy
New boater here. Amazing video. Thank you for the content.

awesome video, thank you!!
Thanks for the video very informative
Don't forget to remove drain plug. In some states (MN) for example, it is illegal to drive with it in. It was an excellent presentation.
I think I added that at the very end because you are correct.
Thank you! I feel more confident to do this alone
Nice video on boating 101. The only thing I would add is using your kill switch and wearing a life jacket especially when boating alone.
True.
Agreed, especially when out by your self.
I needed this! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Nicely done, thanks for taking the time and sharing your knowledge.
thank you for a very informative and well done video

It's a 5 pin on the trailer .

I always put my motors in gear when trailering so the props don’t spin on the road.
Do you need engage the 4x4 on the truck?
So do you leave the motor up or down when unloading boat?
Like the boat however I do not recommend power loading a boat like you did in this video here in MN the ramps can't take power loading it pushing the dirt/sand and create a hole at the ramps and then the dnr has to come in and repair them plus if your pro or lower unit hits bottom at a ramp power loading it is a good way to damage the lower unit or prop its best to winch the boat on the trailer less destructive to the ramps and also safer for the boat. Great video. Very informational. Only complaint is, don't power-load onto the trailer. It's bad for the launches. Use the trailer winch.
Never twist the chain !
