Seeing these videos 10 years later shows you just how far the off road community has come with machining, fabrication, and suspension science
We agree
WOW! That was a little bit more work than I was expecting, but the end result should be fun! Excellent video! A+
Cant wait to see the final product. learning lots thank you!
Yes first we jacked the front all the way to see what our total droop travel was. Then we dropped it down to ride height.
Then we calculated the amount of travel in the shock with the shock in and connected to the lower control arm.
This gave us an idea of where the upper shock hoop should be.
Great question!!!
Glad you like the show Dirt King!!!
Looks so bad ass!!thanks for making this video it gives me hope!!
Glad you like the show. This is only episode 2 of 13 so there is more to come.
Glad you like it zero937. Stay tuned because it gets even better. The bedcage we built is unreal.
Glad you like the show Joe.
that truck is looking sick
Those boxed upper mounts were solid but for the small amount of extra weight and work it is a lot stronger. Also we needed a place to mount the reservoirs.
We actually set the final ride height based on the amount of lift we got with our Deaver leaf springs. After they were installed and we set up the front kit we cycled the suspension to determine where we needed to mount our shocks to achieve the correct ride height.
Unfortunately there is no guide to follow for spring rate. If you contact Eibach and let them know certain things about your prerunner I am sure they can help you. A place to start with a fullsize 2WD truck is about 750lb springs.
Will the tires stick out after front suspension is installed? great videos by the way love the show and learning a lot for a starter...
Did you leave that rubber boot on the steering rack cut open?
A carpenter framing hammer.. lol
That stubby McPherson-ish strut is kinda great for a custom-built chevelle chassis, and I don't thing a steering rack-and-pinion is ideal for use even in a light-duty full-size truck like your silverado
Yeah im doing this rn on my 4x4 and holy shit its alot more work than shown. All my balljoints n shit were rusted and siezed lol, now i just gotta wait for my new tie rod extensions and my axle shaft booties to get here.
what kind of welder do you use? would you recomend an Arc welder (stick)?
love these videos :D
Does any know where I can get the same truck (with out the new stuff) for cheep
What are the coil spring rates and lengths you are using for this build?
how do you find your final ride height and how do you know how much negative travel your truck will have? is there a chart to find spring weights for certain setups?
What did they paint the frame and new shock mounts black with?
how do you find the final height for the custom shock mounts? do just jack up to max travel and see where the top shock mount sits?
Ahahaha your trucks spindle and especially the hub came out so damn easy. Mine was a freaking locked vault!
Did you guys held the new shock towers with the suspension at full droop
Not necessarily, the shock hoops were made for where they needed to be for this application.
Just wait to see what we do on our front bumper
No custom fabrication needed... “welding new shock mounts...”
UPDATE: got to the reason why they fab mounts hahaha
Amasing job wow.
Fabricating is so cool ........ it sucks that I’m barely noticing this stuff now
Is the lsk suspension bolt on and did it come with a coil over
It is bolt-on, but it is for 2007+ Silverados and pretty much every LT kit you buy, you'll need to buy shocks.
Mando you're in luck, we also have a Ranger prerunner that is 4wd and we use the Dixon Bros Racing kit on it. You can visit our website to see more.
most shock hoops go up higher, i guess this was done so you dont have to cut the wheel well?
how many inches of travel are you getting out of it?
I love how he's using harbor freight tools...
Is there a place or unless you guys can make a LongtravelSK.for a chevy colorado crew cab
several good ideas here but I can't say I would order a kit from them. as someone pursuing their aws certs and as someone who's been welding since they were 12, the tubular welds and a couple of the rings that I saw, physically pained me to look at, and think that you're going to trust that bombing through the desert or dunes
I know it’s been 3 years, but glad someone else noticed the welds.
hi, guys, have you baja bugs build suspention videos? thanks, all your videos ara awesome. you are pro!!!!!
You caught that...lol
We were using it to catch brake fluid while the line was disconnected.
how do we install the sprite can?
Thank you
What kind of welder was that?
I prefer roof tire racks takes up less space for bigger shocks plus the roof tire racks look nicer in my opinion and add the ability to build a roof rack for roof lights.
While this is awesome as hell, are those side tubing supports necessary for the new coilover mount? Seems like the boxed mounts were already pretty strong. The tubing seemed a little structurally superfluous.
can you guys build a roof rack on a future video please? It'd be awesome
If u buy the kit about how much will it be for the fab work..
Does anyone know who makes 2005 Chevrolet Colorado 2WD Long Travel Kits? I don't know companies that specializes on these kinds of truck. I've search the web for hours and only one company designed it but some say the designer left to another company.
Is this silverado 2wd? How much is that lsk kit cost
I’m confused they are using a 2wd kit but on the bed it said z71?
Prices for front and rear kit and where to get it.
Thanks
price in header?
Where r u guys located at..
i would like a kit like this on my ranger but a 4x4 kit i would like to keep the 4x4 on my truck
I'm guessing about $2500 because you will also mlneed fiberglass fenders as well.
Anybody else catch that they cut out the upper control arm stop off of the the frame?
It should as long as the frame hasn't been altered.
I wish they had one for a 4x4.
I want this for my duramax
So, no need for a torque wrench?
5:20. Is that sprite can factory?
As long as you’re doing all that work and going to put bigger tires and wheels on you might as well replace the entire braking system larger rotors larger calipers
LSK ALL DAYYYY
Those are 2.5" x 10" Swayaway shocks and if you visit the show site you will find a link to the LSK website...they have prices for all their kits. If you are on Instagram you can contact them @lsksuspension
That is a essential shop tool for catching brake fluid...hahaha
So much for the "bolt on" kit you described. Seems like quite a bit of fabricating to get this thing installed.
PaLEOjd The kit is bolt on, the shop decided to use 10 inch shocks instead of 8 which required some fab
In order to fit long travel do you have to do some fabrication? Or is that only depending on how long you go?
Brett Whitaker I think its because they chose to go with the longer shocks
Should have cut in a B roll of some dude with a 5lb and a sawzall when he said, "and this is how we remove the suspension," it is a Chevy after all.
What happened to these videos noticed there hasnt been anything new in years
You are correct but the LSK kit is very resonable for anlong travel kit, some are over $5k
How hard is it to fab shook hoops for a 1500 2wd silverdo.and when you cut the coil bucket off should you plate the frame ? And should you also plate the frame where you mount the shook hoops to the frame?
question do they make a Long Travel Suspension kit for a 2000 Tahoe
Mazzula has a kit for the front, but I think the rear may have to be custom.
Needs a valence front end and it would be perfect.
Do you need to build a new shock mount?
The LSK kit comes with mounts to use an 8" shock. We made our own to use a 10" shock.
I thought u said that kit didn't need any fabricating ....
It didn't they chose to use a longer shock than what LSK had in mind (8" vs. 10") If they chose to use an 8" shock then they wouldn't have had to do any :)
dont HAVE to fab for kit. they decided to do extra by upgrading shock which required upgrade.
All the bolts look excessively long. Plus I’m not keen on leaving the rack boot open.
why cut the boot in half and then leave it wide open?
the boot was only shielding that joint for lubrication, not the steering assembly
im pretty sure they swapped out the boot off camera
Actually compared to other kits it's really quite affordable.
Do they have kits for older models, 1990 chevy silverado
Louis de Lange fabtech made a kit a long time ago. I had one on a 91 Chevy. They were good but weren't true long travel kits. You would really need to go to a fab shop and have one custom made for a '88-98 Chevy. The reason why they don't make many kits for them is because it's really not an ideal platform to begin with.
I feel like an idiot after having replied, this particular company, LSK, does in fact have a lot for an '88-98 Chevy. It's actually a rather good kit, with a price tag to match. $4500.
Chromium sockets on an impact gun? Not a good idea...
wonder how they welded the back side of the shock brackets and tubing supports lol hmmmmmmm i know how magic lol
He welded box style brackets on the table then welded the boxs to the frame
Hi, I really want to get into the whole off road racing thing, I know I have to build a prerunner first, but where do I start?
By building a prerunner.
+Gilbert McGillicutty Well, yeah. but what then?
Then you race it
Id go the 2wd route. kits aren't cheap though. do you have a truck to start with?
Justin Duke Probably a bit late but i'd start with a budget ranger at local events just to try it and decide if you wanna go all in. If you're cool enough to go all in then do long travel and 4 link.
How much did this build end up costing you/the customer, not including the Silverado itself?
+THESKINIMIN1234 i think its going to cost the life of the customer eventually
I can't find a long travel kit for 2007 Dodge Ram 1500.. Any ideas ?..
Because dodge.
Mazzula may have a kit.
Lol what's up with the Sprite can?
so how much lift does this give your truck?
Only a little the kit is designed to give more travel for bigger bumps
I get that it’s a kit, but no washers on the lower control arm bolts? Really? Not having a washer behind a nut or bolt just doesn’t sit well with me. Seen the edges of the bolt gradually eat through metal with not having the load spread out via a washer.
Search Google for "chevy colorado long travel kit" and you'll find a good kit in the first listing.

I have a few questions , first , why did you not protect the shock while welding ? All it takes is one piece of slag to stick to the threads and the shock is no longer adjustable . Also If I spent the 1500$ for coilovers and the finnish was ruined by weld splatter I would be furious ... Second , did you torque the suspension bolts ? I work in a 4x4 fab shop and I am ASE certified , running the suspension bolts on with an impact is a big No NO ... Due to the fact it can over torque the bolts, strip the threads off the bolts and distort the nuts . I do enjoy the videos and the work you do , this was just something that made me question the build ..
i agree
he did alot that bugged the shit out of me also
There can only be one.
what bugged me the most were his harborfreight tools can't stand them
Hemi joints equal noise but also durability
100% agree!
You should re-evaluate how you perform maintenance. I saw A LOT of improper practice. Take your time and do it the right way.
Kevin Morris Are you talking about the way he used the impact? lol
+Kevin Morris Hey, tell me what they could do better, or different, so I can do the best I can when I install this.
Thanks
+Cody McCall dont hit bolts with steel hammers. Dont cut and weld your chassis. use threadlock (locktite). dont leave your steering rack boot cuted-open. dont use the impact on the nut use it on the bolt and use İMPACT SOCKETS not any socket you find. hope i can help
@@dkongul cutting and winding your frame is fine. Happens all the time. They used thread locker on the bolts that need it. All the rest were lock nuts. No need for a boot on the steering rack when there is no greased joint needing to be protected.
I've got a '81 Chevy Short-Box Step-Side with a 600 hp 489 stroker torque-monster for power. It's jacked with 17" rims turning 35" rubber all on leaf-springs and good quality Rancho regular suspension with 22" or so of potential squish. I currently have this truck in Vancouver, Canada, but it will end up in Baja. I would like to use the truck as a pre-runner/grocery-getter/chase-truck (I've digs there). I would like to get some real droop into the thing.. Do you's guy's have bolt-on kick-ass long travel suspension kits for a bad-ass '81 Chevy?
Diesel Ready Not with a solid front axle
1:42 "-there's no custom fabrication needed.."
5:20 "-we're going to be fabricating new shock mounts."
Did you not hear them say "use the stock shock and not fab. After market shock needs fab"?
Wow bolt on only🤔🤔
a fucking claw hammer LMFAO your not building houses guys!!!!
favorite damn part maybe if cut back on all the hair gel they could buy some half way decent tools lol
sup with that claw hammer n smoking the threads lol you pullin nails as well
😂
Yeah thanks its perfect but a Lil pricy
