I love snails. I usually break the shells first and it takes forever to clean the slime off. Am gueesing the boiling reduces the slime. Thanks for the tip.
Not really boiling, rather boiling hot water and salt reduces the slime.

If someone does not feel good abt boiling them alive like that, pour a can of beer (around 4-5%) into a basket with a lid, and put the snails there. When they have dranken the Beer (they like the taste) they should fall uncontious. You know that they are that way when you can touch their antlers without them retreating. Them, quicky BOIL them. Dont just put them in hot water. They will die without feeling pain. This is the way i euthanize My pet snails If i want to keep the shell

Yes, I removed the dirt part after boiling.
@@tohmyade5920 But I think you can also eat whole things yes? Maybe feed it some cabage for a few days so you know what it ate. I mean to remove or not to remove is just personal prefferance and not strictly necessary. I like to eat organs as there are usually key nutrients in their like vitamin D A etc.

This method makes the snails so soft and not crunchy. I tried it one time. Then it doesn’t make the snail shrink.
I agree, however it’s save to bring the water to a boil before adding the snails . It won’t make it soft .

Its a good way to clean before eating .You can try another method if this does not suit you . By breaking the shell .

Yes it can. Store in the freezer and it will last for 2 months or more.

I think either ways it will still shrink. If you decide to remove directly from the shell without this method, when it’s cooked it’ll still shrink.
As long as it’s not left in the hot water for too long. Then it’s fine 👌.

Why did you add the alum. I saw not for human consumption written on it's package.
Not for human consumption means not to be eaten raw . You can always opt out the use of alum and use lime and salt .

I don’t think so. My snails are not salty. Unless you are referring to another type of snails. This species are not salty, even when salt is used in removing the slime.
