Honda publications have a wonderful service manual for their products, well illustrated with all the info you need to do anything. Well worth the money. I've checked my valve clearance and it was fine, but it's hard to find a 3 mm wrench to reset clearance if you need to. Thanks for the video !
Small engines are fun to work on. We used to braze up the cam lobes for that "high performance" advantage. Seriously, we used to hot rod our engines on go karts and mini bikes, with crazy ideas we came up with. They would really scream, for a while... lol
You bloody legend! Thanks a heap, really appreciate the info, just had ours snap in a 9 y.o. genie used as a part of stand alone solar set up - we didn't know it had a belt and service interval - its done sooooo many hours on that belt! These generators are fantastic.
I had mine out the other day and it looks the same as yours even thought yours is an older unit. How long you figure it took you to get the engine out.
being a year later, its probably already done but i just did rings on one. very easy. take the back cover off, and unbolt the connecting rod cap. push it all the way up and work out the crank shaft. (may need to tap with a small rubber mallet and don't forget the flywheel) pull the piston out abd take a picture. then remove the rings and replace them with the new ones, starting at the bottom going up. then, oil the inside of the cylinder and slide the piston in. no ring compressors needed the cylinder is tapered so just be careful as not to break the rings. good luck :)
does the govener gear have to be lined up in a certain orientation when reinstalling the crankcase cover ? Also i actually am doing a complete rebuild and when reinstalling the cam i notice there seem to be a little bit of play side to side is that normal ? i have not installed the crankcase cover yet only test fitted it
Great Video Jerry, I have a question when you set a bead of RTV do you let it set for a few minutes or do you assemble immediately? I heard its easier to work with if it sets up a bit. Have a good one Jerry!
BSK Garage in most Honda cars if the timing belt breaks the Piston will hit the valves. is it the same thing in this little Honda generator if the timing belt breaks the piston will keep going and will hit and bend the valves?
hi can you help me i need change the piston ring ,is honda eu2000i generator , can you shoume expline me hou to do change the piston ring , how to take out the piston
Why, just why a oil running belt? In many car engines (Ford and PSA) this things dilute themselfes. The Honda generator EU 10i has a timing chain, which can't fall apart.

Hi and greetings from Finland! How many hours were in your generator when the belt snapped? That must be several thousands? Br, Eeli
Thank you! I appreciate you assuming that if we're tackling this job we don't need 30 minutes of watching you fuss with the case
I love working on these generators they are well designed in my opinion.
I did not know there was a timing belt in there. Thanks for the heads up. now i have a project
same, go figure
How often do you change the belt on one of these?
It might sound like a silly question, are these interference engines? If the belt snaps is the head trashed?
Not silly at all, I was wondering the same.
I don't think they are because they have a low compression ratio at 8.5 to 1.
Thanks for sharing this video, my generator needed to be the timing belt change.now I can do it easy according of your instructions .

Is it beneficial to re ring it at the same time
Should I buy a generator close to home instead of online in case it needs servicing ?
Very nice little vid, how does the sprocket mount on the cam? Keyed or slotted?
Do u have a video on eu2000 ring replacement

What are the torque specs on the engine case and valve cover bolts?
Hi! I can't separate the bottom cover from the motor at all! All 8 bolt are out and no amount of prying will make it budge. Can you help?

I have the 1000 version of this, it's a beast! Keeps on chugging....
How to know when it is time to change the timing belt.

Why the heck they didn't use a chain since it's already in oil? because belt is more quiet?
+ProbeGT2 that is a question I keep asking myself. Belt is more maintenance which equals more money is my guess

Yamaha did. Honda in the smaller generator (EU 10i) also. I would always prefer chains, cause they can't crack.
Hey bud, how's the quad running? Sputtering quit?
Over 6000 hours on our eu2000.
Have to do oil sensor now.
First and only problem
How many hours use is recommended to replace the timing belt?
Rafael Pagan manual says 250
Raquelis Cuevas no way
Mine was severely cracked and close to snapping at 8 years old.
Shouldn't a rubber belt run in a dry environment? Or is the oil on it the reason why it cracked?
that is the rule indeed, a belt will naturally crack over time but the oil didn't help it any
jerry bskorner maybe they thought the oil would keep the belt lubed
I think they did that so the valvetrain gets oil from the splash effect.
another job well done by Jerry what no mother fkn. beer time? Lol
how many horse power does that engine make?
Nice job on that, Jerry. Thanks for sharing this. God Bless.

Is the timing gear and cam shaft plastic?
Yes. Some kind of resin or something.
That make this all clear im good doing it myself thanks man!
Thank you for this video

Thank you for the great video
Good job
Skip the bullshit right to the point ! Nice vid
Thank bro, much help
My generator has no ignition
Rolling Rock !!!!!!!!!!
Always replace the 0.ring when doing this job. Jack murphy
some body throw the EU200i in the rubbish bin, and take it home , and found out it 2 stoke , means broken timing belt .cheap to fix ,cost me nothing .
dont really like belt , it crap , bolt it to old 5 honda mates
