The people gushing over Tommy's ability do not understand that music belongs to everyman, not just the masters - I have been playing since 1972 and i enjoy seeing all kinds of people play, not just the virtuoso types, stop gushing and saying we should bow down, Tommy does not think like this, he is a real musician he loves music and people.

Tommy seems like a really nice person. It was cool to play for him. I've seen him give people helpful playing suggestions. He's the kind of person who gives people the time of day, wether it's talking or listening to someone play. He's an all around great guy!

BANKO007 let me just say a view words, because some of you guys seem to know Tommy really well. I know there are thousands of people who can play guitar better than me. There are always people who can do a thing better than you. But is that really a reason, stopping something ? Of course it is not. It's a real reason to get to get to work and becoming better. For me it was a big day and a real honor meeting this man. Maybe some of you clever guys say, why the hell do you play such a song, even in a crappy version in front of a hero?
Some guy said, go and wash Tommys car. Maybe you're right. But during the whole meet&greet i haven't seen any boredom or antypathy in Tommys eyes. Maybe this makes him a real hero, instead of some people who try to see negative things in people they don't know. Thumbs up people!
I admire that you speak up for yourself without the usual UA-cam vulgarity! I haven't remotely suggested giving up and I said it was excruciating only in places, not throughout. I am sure that you will get better and better, especially after meeting Tommy. The point was that for many at Tommy's level of accomplishment, listening to something more ordinary would be very tedious. He could spend his entire time with virtuosos but instead, he chooses to inspire the many. It was a positive comment about Tommy, not a negative one about you.
Too all people with bad comments. I know i'm not the best guitar player. Who is the best guitarist? I think everyone who touches the souls of people. Making music is always a good thing, no matter how good or bad you are. For me it was a very special evening and a great honor to meet mr Emmanuel. And i think i did it quite well. Thanks for all nice and positive comments! Too all the haters: Fuck you, i did it! :p

I know Tommy well, he's stayed at my home. I can tell you that he is the most humble, caring individual you'll meet. He treats everyone the same. I suck at guitar, but when my daughter and I have played and sung for him, he acts like it's the greatest thing in the world. He actually listens, smiles at the good parts, and like a gentleman doesn't snicker at the gaffs. He's just a wonderful guy.

The man had really got a lot of nerve playing an acoustic guitar in front of Tommy.
Tommy didn't start out playing like he does now,he is a rare talent,but still he enjoys hearing players of all levels play.,he if anybody knows how hard it is to get good on the guitar .he's a humble guy who takes the time to stand in front of players of all skill levels .he is always looking for new ideas to add to his playing ,and sometimes beginners are the best source.
he looks like my piano teacher when I was little , he was standing looking exactly like this to me and I was deadly afraid to make mistakes or disappoint him. Actually it was nothing like that he never got angry with me, he was looking suspicious because he was tracing me note for note by ear. now i see him in this video.
Gerd Zimmermann if you could please tell me who the person is who enters into the video at 1:30 mark, I believe it is a friend from many years past, a great guitar player in his own right, who I lost contact with about 30 years ago, if you know his name ,would be so grateful. And in parting and hope for a response, you played that Dire Straits song just fine and if you don't mind me saying it takes some real " stones " to approach him and do what you did, it's immortal !!

Yes. Without a capo, it's be Open 6th string, 5th string 2nd fret, 4th string 4th fret, 3rd string open, 2nd string 3rd fret, top E open. ... Capo as needed.
This video says so much about Tommy's character and his love for people. It takes more than just being a great player to get to his level but one has to be a great player first.
Tommy Emmanuel...a man who always gives more than he takes...always passing on the art he has mastered...planting his gift into the music of the next generations...

Tommy is such a gracious person. This took a lot of courage and trust. I was in an elevator last year with Tommy...for about 30 seconds and he was very easy to talk to.

It is in the true nature of an artist-which Tommy is-to lend an ear and critique that which other guitarists play. I'd LOVE to have him give me advice.You ever see his instructional DVDs? He is as much a teacher as a performer. That is generosity/dedication at it's finest.
I’m sorry Mr. Tommy, but sultans of swing has absolutely nothing to do with flamenco (neither the chord progresion nor the arpegios). In fact, it has not even nothing to do with gipsy rumba style, which you are probably missmatching with flamenco...

It's really great seeing Tommy this tolerant and humble around other guitarists, considering he's totally on another level compared to them, yet he respects evey other musician and moreover seems to really enjoy seeing other people play in front of him and wanting to show him what they've got!
