The voice, the subtle humor, Tui, and the way you lay out information is why your channel will grow to become very big. Early congratulations Nick
thanks Jordan
John's message is hilarious!
Nick is one of those youtubers who never annoy me! cause he keeps it real and calm attitude. love the channel. just wish he uploaded more!
Honestly that accent is very attractive. Im not even gay but damn... it sounds so nice when you speak. You have an amazing voice that makes your videos so much better.
we confirmed that he's not gay.
Sarcasm meter is detecting some movement.
That accent is attractive?
All in favor of Nick making ASMR videos, say aye
Just like emotionscomeandgo's pants when Nick starts talking.
Apple CarPlay is one of the greatest things ever, I use Spotify through it as well as Apple maps and hands free calling, everything integrated smoothly. It makes long drives to unfamiliar places much less stressful.
Love your videos, thanks for letting us vicariously enjoy your 911.
I loved the text message from John! Haha.
That's great, the computer monitor in the front seat! It made me laugh just when I needed it most, thanks Nick, rock on brother!!
"Clearly a wrong number...hehe" Dead
I absolutely love the interior of your 911
As a nzer living overseas for a while I hear you (literally) on the accent with Siri etc. great video again. Always good hearing that accent and love the jokes
Hi Nick! Have followed you for your heli videos for quite some time, but for some reason haven't seen the rest. Until a couple of days ago, when I realized my mistake and had to binge watch them to catch up.
I absolutely love your quirky, self deprecating humor and it is obvious that you also know your stuff. And to me, who is also an old geek stuck in the 80's, I appreciate your choice of music and computers as well.
And you're a gorilla and dog person! That alone makes you a solid 8/10 in my book (sorry, the scale doesn't go any higher if you're not a girl). While he was alive, my Golden Retriever, Valter, absolutely loved car rides. He often walked over to our BMW and sat by the rear door, just wanting to go for a ride. :-)
As for this video, your IT background shows in how you are noticing and commenting on the system's responsiveness, features and quirks (read: bugs). (You really should try to get a direct connection to Porsche's software developers in Germany, you speak the right language to be able to leave a bug report they might take seriously...) I also love your attention to detail.
Anyway. Just wanted to thank you for all of your hard work. It's a privilege to watch your enthusiasm and love for Life. You're as genuine a guy as they come.
TL;DR: Came for choppers. Stayed for Nick. And Tui. And William and Al. And //e.
The 'B' roll of the old mac was incredible. Love it.
Wonder if Porsche has any plans to implement apple carplay over bluetooth as we are starting to see in other cars. The main fail of the current system IMO is the requirement for a hard connection.
Nice Game Boy Color! I have one in the same color. I can't wait for your next "what's in my car" video.
a solid 5/10. Come on Nick why are you putting numbers on your looks? beauty is subjective no need to feel like a 5 when you're a 10 in someone's eyes. and btw you're a 4 tops mate
4.5 in dim lighting...
Nick Murray Everyone's a 10 in complete darkness.
Everyone's a 0 when we all die.
lmao. I did not expect that. literally spat out.
Now I jus need to get a Porsche!
Thanks for the video nick!
Maui Jim's at 5:50 Nick you're full of good taste. well done sir
I think I'll wait out this fad and stick to my cassette player.
Solid plan
Your hair is the highlight of this video. Thank you.
You are more than a solid 5/10. You and TUI are awesome. Thanks for your videos sharing.
The BMW M2 has wireless apple car play...
It auto connects when jump in the car... makes it so much easier without having to connect it all the time.
I'm curious how many of those issues can be fixed by an update by Porsche. CarPlay supports secondary displays (dash display) but maybe Porsche needs time to implement that. Same with glitchy things like freezes, maybe even the audio output selection well? Nice little feature overview Nick!
I was going to make a video this weekend on the Apple CarPlay in my Vette but you beat me to it. Actually, no one will notice bc no one watches my videos compared to you haha. That obviously means I need to get better. Keep 'em coming. 🍻
Great video!!! I love it
Loving that 'There's something about Mary' hairstyle, so retro.
Tinder? i thought this channel was all about the superiority of grinder
Souheib Merge Grindr*
Nick I live over in Ridgefield only like 20 minutes from Compo beach if you would be interested in testing a Q7 or A8L this summer.
Another great vid, Nick! Thank you!! Remember to please do the Car Audio System video too soon.....🤗
Hey Nick. Having the same issue with the carplay sound playing through the iphone speaker after short stop. Found a quick fix by accident. Rather than having to unplug and plug the phone, just hit the voice control button on the steering once for the internal voice control. Once you cancel that voice control command, the car reverts to carplay audio. However, now the sound is playing over the car speakers again.
Great video as usual. :D
On the back, "you can be my other 5/10."
Good to know that Porsche still produce 5/10 solutions. At least they have carplay, but then they have it integrated so unstably that you have to unplug/replug, or no it doesn't work on THAT particular port. Reminds me of the air pump for flats - use this 12v socket only, else it blows a fuse on the other one. I guess I'm not missing too much (since I don't do streaming) using the ipod nano plugged in via Apple 30pin to the UAI on a 2009 car.
Nick - does your car have the start/stop feature? If it does could you do a video discussing it? What are the pros/cons - does it actually save you any fuel, etc.
You have pretty much the same glitches as my 5 year-old Hyundai system without Apple Car Play, especially the ignition reset issue. Good to know when I finally get a Porsche I'll feel right at home!
love your humor Nick lmao.
I'm disappointed my 17 Mazda 6 doesn't have Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay) yet! They keep saying it's coming but cmon. I feel as though their infotainment is really outdated even tho they have that fancy BMW screen. Audio delay, no smartphone integration, no apps, no real information other than basic maintenance info. Compared to my sisters 16 Civic that includes everything I just mentioned and more! Hope I get a software update when the new model comes out or I'm gonna be pissedddddd
Thanks for this. I've been wondering how it works in the real world. The CarPlay feature is the #1 reason I'd want to upgrade to the 991.2.
Awesome thumbnail and intro 😄👍
I was having issues with the podcasts app too, switched to the App Pocketcasts, much cleaner interface and works great with carplay
I use this every day, overall it's good and BTW the most important feature and #1 reason why you need CarPlay in the first place is that you have a SPOTIFY app that's really great. There are quite some flaws around stability, though (quite often it gets stuck and you have to un-plug-re-plug in). What's really annoying is that once you plug in for Car Play the car's normal connection to the telephone get's lost so you can do calls only via Car Play with the huge disadvantage that the Porsche Voice control for the phone doesn't work then (which is 100 times better than Siri in car play). Also, after 6 weeks still have to get used to having 2 alternative navis and 2 alternative phone options with 2 different UI's available and to find the right rhythm in between...
i cannot understand - and i reiterate that this is totally me - why Porsche wouldnt integrate Android Auto as well with the PCM. Audi MMI does both.
its true Nick, Google is getting their hands on all kinds of info from every source they can access. If you have used google in your browser for a few days then you will notice that ads and other pop ups, annoying things occur. IE; I have a older white Audi A6, and my Porsche 911 C4, and an old Mercedes 450SLC and i noticed that i started getting ads for NEW WHITE AUDI A6, and the NEW 911 in GREEN, you get the point. my friend didn't believe me and he has a corvette =( and hos wife took my advice and got a few year old Audi A6 and after a few hours it started popping up ads for the NEW Corvette and same with the new AUDI A6, and we have tested this extensively on many devices, and platforms and we get the same scary results.
As a new owner I now understand when you comment about the Porsche's unique way of doing things. The Macan S I just bought came with the option of a "Navigation Module for the PCM". Is that part of the excellent system you mentioned on your 911?
Nick, thanks for sharing.. Where do you keep the phone in the 911 BTW?
Where did that beautiful IIe (two e -> Tui, oh now I get it) draw power from?
What was the video title where you say what your job is? I couldn't find it but I have to know lol. Not sure it's something I will be able to emulate though.
Id give Apple CarPlay a solid 5/10
AAAAHHHHH....... I just wanna be able to use my Waze app without having to look/check/tinkle with my pain in the ass iPhone while driving! 😫😫😫
*side note* I agree Porsche's nav system is wonderful, just wish it had the ability to alert me of the Po Po like Waze does.
I've given up with Apple Car Play for all these annoying reasons and glitches. Plus I like the more subtle (non colour) Porsche screen icons. So, when I plug my iPhone in I select iPod now - the end! How are you getting on with your Porsche Car Connect (PCC) and PCM Connect?! I would like to see your video review on these.
Top notch info! And I'm not being sarcastic, lol. Thx Nick. Cheers, Irwin
On the Software update, is it Sync throughout ICloud or internal software? Presume must be functionalities in the regular basis, would make sense to have it up to date! and resolve all bugs, issues with internal software
Hi Nick, can you do an update video on this..has the bugs been fixed?
Nice update. Especially for someone like me who hasn't kept up in a while. One question. Where's the eight track?
Does your Carplay also not allow you to use the vehicle's built in sat nav? In my Mercedes, when I have my iPhone plugged in to Carplay, Apple maps overrides the Nav button and I cannot access the Mercedes sat nav application (which is far superior to Apple Maps).
That's really been my only complaint about the system... that and the same issue of when I come back to the car and have to unplug and replug to get the sound to come from the car again like yours.
Hey Nick, where do you get your shirts? I love them
I've used Apple Carplay a few times and it was pretty good. I used it in a BMW which as far as I know has the only wireless Apple Carplay on the market thus far. One of my biggest gripes about it however is not being able to use the Maps app that I want. You can ONLY use Apple Maps and not Google Maps even though it's installed on your device. Also the map size itself was relatively small, I tried everything to get it to fullscreen and it wouldn't do it. Could just be a BMW thing...
Great video Nick! I love the Apple CarPlay in my Mustang as well. Since I don't have nav, having apple maps on the bigger screen is much better and safer. The voice texting is pretty accurate for me too although it of course has it's limits and I can't get too complicated with a text. I only use CarPlay on long drives or when I need navigation. Shorter drives I usually just listen to satellite radio and texts can wait. Hoping Apple opens up the ability to make CarPlay wireless on more cars soon.
subaruwrxfan agreed. It is slowly improving with each iOS release
You'd think all the glitches with car play would be figured out by now since even aftermarket car play systems seem to have their own issues too. Was it just introduced in the 991.2s?
Does the car play only work via wire connection? How about bluetooth connection?
great video. def one of the better car reviewers out there. you and savagegeese should make a collaboration video! you guys would make a sick team.. anyways keep up the great videos!
Savagegeese seems a little serious : )
Hi Nick, can you do a video on rear leg room. Is it realy possible for some one to sit behind you?
I sort of covered this in another video. Basically 5'4" or shorter can fit so long as the people in the front seats don't have their seats back further than 1/2 way.
Ohhh missed it somehow , but tnx for the info :)
A friend of mine who is more than 5'10" tall fit behind when i moved the front seat almost all the way forward. Who says 911 isn't practical?
Loved that Nick didn't give a damn about his hair. Work it Nick! Messy hair don't care!
Hey Nick
Maybe your music would sound as good as it does via CarPlay when you use it as an iPod over the USB connection. The difference may be caused by your pcm not having aac bluetooth codec for audio
Hi Nick:
I use Apple CarPlay on my VW Golf R... and I've never encountered a problem with turning off the car, and then turning it back on with music coming out of my phone... mine will continue playing through my car stereo's system. So I think your problem might be with your Porsche stereo. However, I do notice that if I turn the car off (and leave my phone plugged in) and return about 15 minutes later, that my phone is very hot to the touch. So I try not to leave my phone plugged into the USB port while I'm not in the car. My biggest complaint with Apple CarPlay is the lack of Album art showing up on the display while a song is playing. I do wish that the album art was displayed along with the artist/song info during the play back of a song.
The only thing I find is that Apple Maps has a more update traffic reporting system...Maybe more detail as well. However. I use the Porsche nav most of the time. Its great.
Great video Nick, I also get text messages on my (non Porsche) car, but cannot reply. Modern apps in cars are finally coming of age. Night and day difference in the map apps for some newer cars. Thanks and I hope you got William some ice cream for his cameo appearance.
Nick, you can connect Apple CarPlay to your iPhone Bluetooth and it always reconnects when you start the car, plus you don’t have to fiddle with wires.
Where'd you get the ball joint mount for go pro?
Cool , it does have Pacman. :)
My girlfriend said you look like Matt Damon.... I'm coming for you, "Bourne", nobody makes my girlfriend see famous people in strangers. :D
My mum also thinks that.
whats up with the dinosaurs in the center console?
You don't half have some crap in your car - what's the deal with the tiny dinosaurs and stack of cash ? 😂
Just got a Cayman with Apple Carplay. Don't fret if you don't have it. I use iPhone and the car's PCM will grab the phone via blue tooth and integrate it into the PCM seamlessly, with out doing anything. Even my phone's music and playlists are available on the PCM somehow! If you are using CarPlay just for the music there are 2 SD card slots where you can put tons of music files, they show up on the PCM under Media. The PCM will display the album art and it's just fine; great really. I guess if you use some streaming service (spodify) or were stupid enough to purchase music through apple (and cant get your music out of itunes because of all the copyright embedded into the files), then CarPaly may have more functionality for you. The phone when hooked up to the car seems to only work with the iphone device, not through all the cars wonderful interface, which is a big drawback of the apple CarPlay. CarPlay was an option I really wanted but now that i have it I realize it is not all that great. It is very glitchy, like most apple stuff unfortunately and you find yourself fiddling around trying to get it to work when you should be enjoying driving the car. Another big drawback is that you have to get the phone out, twist around to plug it in every time you get in plus there is no where to put the phone so it's laying around and getting in the way. Not a big fan. The car's PCM I think is outstanding but I'm coming from a 996. If you are looking at a used car that dosen't have CarPlay don't be put off because of Apple CarPlay which will probably not even work in a few years as apple moves forward to some newer more glitchy system in the name of progress.
At least it works for you. I just picked up a 2017 x5 and the Bluetooth and CarPlay connections are absolute rubbish
Hey Nick. I've been trying to find a good holder for my iPhone that connects to the A/C Vent. Do you like yours and could you give me the name of it? Thanks
I don't think they sell them any more but I have a whole bunch of them to give away with my t-shirts next week!
Nick, what watch do you wear?
Nick, when the music starts playing through your phone, can't you just swipe up and select apple car play as output option instead of unplugging and replugging it?
Funny thing is that it already thinks that it is playing via CarPlay
Does CarPlay also work via blutooth or just with the cable connected to the car?
Only via usb cable.
Will an android phone work with bluetooth for playing music?
Nick, are you saying the sound is better through apple car play than if you hard wire connect and instruct the PCM to treat your phone as an ipod?
Yes indeed. Maybe my ears playing tricks on me but I have sat a few people in my car to compare and they agree. No idea why
Hey Nick! Use some of that bankroll in your center console and buy some hair product! Oh and Roger the Great Dane says Hi and can't wait for his driving lesson. ;-)
It took me hours to get my hair looking like this!
Oy....
Could not see paying $1,720 for Apple Car play and all other "stuff" they bundle with Porsche Connect Plus which was required for the 2018 Cayman S. Did buy the Navigation system though.
Where is the T-shirt shop you were going to open up?
Working on it
Can you add Apple CarPlay later on a 2014 911
I have a 997 GTS (sold my 991.1S for one) so no apple car play in that, but in my new 2017 Audi A4 Avant dogmobile I have deactivated Apple Car Play. It's just too clunky! The Apple phone app is worse than the audi but you have to use it. If you are using Waze, then change something on the carplay like a music track you lose the screen on the phone! It's all so annoying! Plugging in and out all the time it dangerous as well. It's just not flexible enough. Why is there no Waze carplay app? So I just plug in, for the charging and high quality sound and bypass the carplay, same audio quality etc.
P.s. Love the classical music...
Outside of the CarPlay functionality how does PCM compare with the iDrive in your M4?
While waiting for his reply I'm going to say that in my limited experience I find the Porsche units a bit faster and feature rich but the BMW's easier to use on the move.
Nick, can one leave the USB cable plugged in when parked or will it drain the battery?
Yes it just powers down
the other apple is much nicer. I do hope it comes with the other capability as well
Hey Nick, is there anyway that Apple CarPlay can work without using a usb cable, with bluetooth perhaps?
Bluetooth does not have enough bandwidth for CarPlay but some cars (BMW for example) support CarPlay over WiFi
Nick Murray I see, thanks for the reply
All I need is a 3.5 aux input for music through my Walkman A20 and I'm good.
"clearly the wrong number"
HAHAHA
Assuming you have a 911 991.2 or newer.
Crazy tax related question Nick... since you blog about your 911 so much does it become a business expense you can write off - more than a normal business use car that you write off the miles, etc. Seems like there might be a case there since you're technically offsetting the cost of the car with the business exposure of the UA-cam channel. Lastly... any answer will not be taken as tax/legal advice but just you're option. LOL
I thought I would mention even though its off topic to this video but Porsche now offers seatbelts in crayon. I think you should change the silver grey over to crayon. I would also have the seat backs done in graphite blue as well as the gear shifter boot...car will be perfect then :)
hi Nick, one way to avoid unplugging & plugging the iPhone when you restart the car for music is to: press media to play lets say your CD, then you pause the CD then you go back to CarPlay & play music from the phone again but this time it will stream through the sound system! The glitch is annoying.
Good tip thanks
Do Porsche make an iPhone App for their cars? (Start Key, Preheat, location status etc.)
g ride they do. It has no features
i don't have an iPhone or a Porsche but i still watched this video! Oh and i don't have hair either ;)
dinosaurs in the middle console storage game boy in the glove box what are you doing Nick?!
Nick how big is the internal jukebox in your car?
I've got targa 4s being delivered in 2 weeks and I'm trying to set up my music for the SD slots and the jukebox. I've read conflicting sites. One says it's 11GB while another report 40GB.
Can you confirm,?
40GB
Nick - just an FYI, my jukebox was only 10gb
