If they wanted a Mad Queen she should have just burned the Red Keep (with civilians inside) and then had her paranoia ramp up to extreme levels regarding people's loyalty to Jon to the point where she decides to preemptively take care of the problem permanently.
It pisses me off that even the one director was trying to cover for their shit writing. Tyrion keeps mentioning Cersei's pregnancy with Euron standing right there. But Cersei had only just informed Euron about it. The director said that Euron wasn't "paying attention" while Tyrion talked. Oh, ok.

Ernesto Gastelum honestly in episode 6 it looked like there weren’t many Dothraki left. The scene where Jon walks to Dany before she gives her speech. You can tell the Dothraki numbers has significantly been lowered. The unsullied look like they even dwarf them and they only have 4,000 left. Even half of the Dothraki being killed in episode 3 still leaves 50,000 Dothraki. 50,000 is still a lot. That’s more than the northern army which numbers at 45,000 full strength before the war of the five kings. however, I still see your point. The writing has been shit. I personally think Winterfell should have been overrun and they are forced to retreat. Those tunnels in the crypts to escape we should have seen used and anyone else outside manages to escape because bran actually does something useful like sacrifices himself holding the NK’s army back before being killed. Which allows everyone in Winterfell to escape that’s one way it could have been improved.

The way in which they decided to do it just lacked depth, she had to become mad because that was the story line. In this last season many of the characters’ choices were just to make the plot go in a particular direction and that was it. I saw plot holes, and useless dialogues everywhere that couldn’t have been covered by the hudge 3D sections. What a disappointment.

And of course Dany's ascension to madness.
It always gets me how stupid it is, because they showed and even said in this dumb interview that they are DEAD and it's like "Nah, we tricked you! You didn't see it coming which means we shocked you, we won!". NK did completely nothing.
Not exactly all. There are great scenes with characters like Tywin Lannister that aren't in the books. That makes it all the worse when they completely botch taking over the story after the books end though.
Evil Peter the tywin/arya scenes were great along with a lot of Robb scenes that werent from the books, but keep in mind they had George working with them back then sometimes even writing full episodes

While I absolutely agree that D and D what the bed regarding GOT season 8, the outline they were given was from George R R Martin, and it is generally understood the he dislikes the usual tropes of protagonists and prophecy/destiny. To me, what happened in the final season is a much more realistic take on how power disputes such as these have happened in our own history. As human being we give way too much importance to our reason for living in such a cruel world as a way of coping with it, and we are trained to expect that "chosen one" tripe in fantasy stories. George R R Martin never wanted to take that route. Turing the kingdom into an oligarchy was an interesting twist to me and perhaps that was why these characters were where they were. Do we ever really see our own destiny clearly? Or do we go by our own views and ideals to determine what our own destinies are only to find ourselves disappointed? The writing could have definitely been better, but overall, the ending made sense given the view of the original source.
I don't have hbo I get my shows on torrents. Correct me if I'm wrong but there are no commercial breaks on hbo? The subscription pays for everything. If that is the case it's little wonder they spent less and less time on each season and made everything concise. The show costs a fortune to make, the cast list is massive. Most other reality shows you have 50 actors tops. This has several hundreds. Think how much Robyn and edmure must have asked to be paid to drop whatever it is they were doing to come and appear on the last scene. Hbo: hi Robyn we need you for one scene for the end of the season. Were going to get all the lords together. Robyn: yeah ok I want $1M Hbo: we were thinking more like $4000 travel and expenses paid for. Robyn: take it or leave it. (Hypothetical example) With so many actors any one of them could extort the show for more money and the show doesn't want to keep replacing actors and substituting them. The bigger your cast list, the more chances of people trying to extort the snow

In their defense, we saw some dothraki retreating from the massacre. Not sure why they got hate for it. Sure, there are some dothraki left, but the dothraki as a whole and as a threat is pretty much gone.

I can't help but think this is just D&D losing it without source material. Both that Arya scene and that Sansa scene aren't in the books (Arya's is another character entirely and since the whole Sansa/Ramsay thing is made up- in the books, it's another girl who's forced to pretend to be Arya who marries Ramsay and escapes with Theon- there's no way she'd have that in the books). It weirdly seems like they chose to add these weirdly out of character, dark scenes for Sansa and Arya (and in Arya's case, make the character much more violent) but then act like they didn't happen while cutting some of Dany's darker moments (like agreeing to have someone tortured for information in Meereen) and having her end up crazy. That's not how you set up characters for logical conclusions, it's just bad writing.

I'm just saying that a scene like that (and other darker scenes of Dany's that were cut) would go a long way to setting up this ending- like showing she'd agree to torture someone in Meereen establishes that she'll blur the line or right and wrong and use dark methods to get to what she thinks is right. And adding darker material for Sansa and Arya and making Arya way more violent and cutting a lot of her more heroic/compassionate moments (like giving water to the dying men in Braavos and the Riverlands, caring for Weasel, saving Sam in Braavos, etc.). Like we get to see Arya has nightmares of killing people in Braavos even though those people were unambiguously awful people, that was kind of needed for the show if you ask me; it's just plain odd if this is the conclusion you wanted to reach.You're right, it's just shock value ugh

Had to do with how they wanted to do the episodes. They were going to be very expensive. You can see 8.3 and 8.5 in all its visuals, CGI, stunts and production. They allocated for less episodes but to make them how they wanted it. We now have seen how these turned out. So much for quality over quantity.

That's bullshit. Adapting a Novel for TV most of the times ends with bad TV series. (Or movies) The producers / directors for GoT did a good job in adapting the source for TV and you have to give them the credits here. There are only two things that went wrong. GoT surpassed the novels which means that there was less guidance for the general story. Plus the producers decided that they should wrap GoT with one season. I like the themes of the last season, they simply had to rush it...

The show releases annually, they have one year to work with... It's a bit of a dilemma. It probably would be better for the show to wait for the books to be finished but then, many would complain about a year-long gap between seasons.

Good example for this might be fullmetal alchemist. The first anime is regarded as not-good because they surpassed the source material. THe second one is highly acclaimed because it was adapted after the mangas were finished. (afaik) The reason I argue with you guys here is simply that I don't like hate trains. I don't like that now people pop up and criticize stuff that is actually ok. For instance the way that Daenerys and Tyrion are portrait. The issue is not how they behave, the issue is that the character development was rushed in a few episodes.

Ep 1 I did everything to get home early from my shift. Tried to puppy dog eye my co-worker who doesn't watch the show....failed. But made it home only about an hour after it aired. I even requested off for the 19th so I could have a GoT watch party at a friends house. One of those friends works with me. We have now upped the alcohol required for the night. We aren't rushing to get home from work. Hell the words "it's recorded anyway" were spoken about the final episode cause one person might be running late. We wouldn't have dreamed that sentiment was possible for the finale of GoT. We are reaching the point of ambivalence.

@@awesomemanuXD They replace Arya's ACOK material, the horrors she experiences at Harranhal were very crucial for her character development while the scenes in the show between Tywin and Arya are great scenes individually but they all treat the exact same story beats and do much less for her development. It's a good example of D&D: Great individual scenes but adding up to mean very little.

Farhad Jaffi I Must say that there were still a lot of deaths in there. Killing Jaime and Cersei alone was big. They killed so many more on the way. We just don’t get that feeling anymore, where we see a character dying who we thought he will never die. GRRms goal was to make you hype about who could die, as nobody was safe anymore, and it worked until Jon snows „death“, after that, we just didn’t care anymore who will die and who not, we knew that someone will die, and because it’s the last season they couldn’t just kill Jon and dany, it would leave a gap now that pretty much every other character is dead.

Every goddamn person who says "You just hate season 8 because the show isn't doing a happy ending!" needs to be linked to this video and forced to watch it. It's not the ending, per se. It's the writing, the rushed pace, the inconsistencies, and the decisions they made to take us here.

I can see the need for speeding things up because there's a lot to finish up. But then ... they do like at least 10mins of stupid camera runs about "horrors of war" or some other shit which doesn't advance the plot at all. I mean wtf? Is that why this show has gotten so popular? Nice looking camera runs? The plain stupidity is so hard it hurts.
There was also something chilling about the way Tyrion watched his father die. Also something chilling about the way Jon watched that manipulated child die by his orders. Watch out guys. Next episode Jon and Tyrion will flay all the remaining innocents in Kings Landing.

Nah, rushing the story to end it at, essentially, 7 1/2 seasons was far better than doing 10 or 11, or even letting someone else come in to finish it with proper pacing.
I'm not mad that they turned Daenerys into a new villainous force. I'm mad that they forced this whole 180° turn into 5 poorly written episodes. I'm mad that they tried to force incredible good written characters into the worst executed death scenes in movie history. The god damn city folks had a better ending to their lives than half of the cast that died in this season. Did D&D even watch the last seasons of their own show?
To be fair, they were doing great when they had someone ELSE writing for them. They're great at making a spectacle on TV, and that's about it. That takes skill I don't have, but shame of them for ruining a great story.
You know whats sad? You can see people cared aboit the production of this show and they pulled out all the stops in Episode 5. The cinematography was amazing, symbolism, expressionism - it was just wonderful to behold.... But then you think about the plot and you have a bad taste in your mouth. Those guys were really trying with the crap they had.
They didn't know how to write for 2-3 more seasons. Shit, they can't even reach 10 episodes for this one. They're so oblivious of how they are going to end the story.
Stannis, Davos, Roose Bolton, the Dornish, the Ironborn and Euron specially, Jaime, Cersei, Tyrion, Arya, Littlefinger, Varys... Big F to the fallen. And I'm probably forgetting of someone whose arc was butchered.
The Sad Part about all of this is that Both George & HBO *WANTED* to give them more Seasons/more Time, to which they flat-out responded with no, we’re good with 6 Episodes. I’ve never seen such a Amazing Show go down in what will be remembered as the Biggest Shitshow in Television History, all because the Writers wanted to be Lazy. You can’t make this shit up.

Agreed, to save himself, the woman he loved and his children of the King's Wrath who'd have had all their heads on pikes. I am not saying that what he did was right... just that you have to put it into perspective and put yourself in his shoes. Besides I dont think any of the characters that are alive in either the books or the show, have never done anything morally questionable.
At this point, I am not even getting hurt because these are not characters I loved and it isn`t canon. It is some weird high budget fanfic written by people who never wrote fanfiction properly. The true ending will be books if they ever come out. Until then I consider this story open ended after season 5.
Don`t talk about fanfiction like that, it really does not reserve it. Fandom is filled with incredibly talented fanfiction writers and they should not be compared to d&d.
The sad thing is I’ve been reading a lot of reinterpretations of this season and they’re actually really well thought out. A lot better than what has been going on.

Some of the less established/experienced actors look downright afraid to speak their minds. Bad mouthing a production is a good way to self-sabotage your career. Then you've got guys like Peter Dinklage who are comfortable just opening mocking the bad writing
I don't think it is as bad as everyone says it is. The ideas are good, but the execution feels rushed! I don't have a problem with Jaime relapsing and accepting who he is, I think it's a neat twist to his arc, it is how he views himself and not how we view him (it surely came from George). I also don't have a problem with Arya killing the NK, Daenerys going mad, Euron killing Raeghal, Missandei dying, etc. It's just that it felt rushed because of it being a short season! The whole spawning of unsullied and dothraki is also silly and could be solved if they had her say that she had men guarding strongholds like Casterly and Dragonstone, or they could have gendry be settled as Lord of the storm lands and bring his armies, meanwhile, also seeking the support of the tullys and the dornish (like Jon did with the northern houses in S6). That way, she would have an army and it wouldn't be confusing! I'm not mad and hatefull towards the season, but I'm sad we didn't get a 10 or more episodes season to move the story at a good pace... We could have had all of these ideas executed, but they would feel more earned

Daenerys kind of forgot that she didn't want to be the Queen of Ashes or anything like her father, so she burned them all. 2. Tyrion kind of forgot that he hated his sister, so he pleaded with her to save herself and her child in Episode 4 by surrendering. 3. Cersei kind of forgot that she hired Bronn to kill Tyrion and wanted him dead, so she called off the archers. 4. Cersei kind of forgot that she doesn't really care about the people of King's Landing and there would be no consequences for straight up killing Tyrion, Daenerys, and Drogon right outside the city gates in Episode 4, so she practiced good restraint and let them live. 5. Jaime kind of forgot that he killed King Aerys II to save the people of King's Landing, so he told Tyrion that he never really cared about the people. 6. Brienne kind of forgot her code of honor, so she agreed to premarital sex with Jaime. 7. Cersei kind of forgot that she hired Bronn to kill Jaime, too, so she embraced him just before death. 8. Euron and all the ballista operators kind of forgot how to aim their ballistas, so they all got wrecked by Drogon. 9. The Dothraki kind of forgot that they went extinct in Episode 3, so they led the charge into King's Landing in Episode 5. 10. The Unsullied kind of forgot that they lost half of their entire force in Episode 3, so they decided to respawn for Episode 5. 11. Euron kind of forgot that he anchored his fleet several miles away from King's Landing, so he decided to swim to the exact spot where Jaime ended up, and still had the energy to fight him. 12. The Mountain kind of forgot that a dagger through the head is fatal. 13. Every piece of armor in Westeros kind of forgot how to deflect pierce and slash attacks.
14. Missandei kind of forgot to just jump down the castle wall by bringing Cersei down with her. 15. The Hound kinda forgot to shove Cersei off the castle walls when she went past him after he told Arya that she'd die anyway and she should flee (also applies to The Mountain, but hey... Ernesto Gastelum honestly in episode 6 it looked like there weren’t many Dothraki left. The scene where Jon walks to Dany before she gives her speech. You can tell the Dothraki numbers has significantly been lowered. The unsullied look like they even dwarf them and they only have 4,000 left. Even half of the Dothraki being killed in episode 3 still leaves 50,000 Dothraki. 50,000 is still a lot. That’s more than the northern army which numbers at 45,000 full strength before the war of the five kings. however, I still see your point. The writing has been shit. I personally think Winterfell should have been overrun and they are forced to retreat. Those tunnels in the crypts to escape we should have seen used and anyone else outside manages to escape because bran actually does something useful like sacrifices himself holding the NK’s army back before being killed. Which allows everyone in Winterfell to escape that’s one way it could have been improved.

The way in which they decided to do it just lacked depth, she had to become mad because that was the story line. In this last season many of the characters’ choices were just to make the plot go in a particular direction and that was it. I saw plot holes, and useless dialogues everywhere that couldn’t have been covered by the hudge 3D sections. What a disappointment.

Not exactly all. There are great scenes with characters like Tywin Lannister that aren't in the books. That makes it all the worse when they completely botch taking over the story after the books end though.

If HBO is offering more episodes and $$$, take the opportunity to end the series in a way that it deserves, fuck man, this was supposed to be an amazing last trip.
While I absolutely agree that D and D what the bed regarding GOT season 8, the outline they were given was from George R R Martin, and it is generally understood the he dislikes the usual tropes of protagonists and prophecy/destiny. To me, what happened in the final season is a much more realistic take on how power disputes such as these have happened in our own history. As human being we give way too much importance to our reason for living in such a cruel world as a way of coping with it, and we are trained to expect that "chosen one" tripe in fantasy stories. George R R Martin never wanted to take that route. Turing the kingdom into an oligarchy was an interesting twist to me and perhaps that was why these characters were where they were. Do we ever really see our own destiny clearly? Or do we go by our own views and ideals to determine what our own destinies are only to find ourselves disappointed? The writing could have definitely been better, but overall, the ending made sense given the view of the original source.
Arya was more of a hero than Jon, i guess all that fate thing was for him to stab Danny in the back like a true hero
I don't have hbo I get my shows on torrents. Correct me if I'm wrong but there are no commercial breaks on hbo? The subscription pays for everything. If that is the case it's little wonder they spent less and less time on each season and made everything concise. The show costs a fortune to make, the cast list is massive. Most other reality shows you have 50 actors tops. This has several hundreds. Think how much Robyn and edmure must have asked to be paid to drop whatever it is they were doing to come and appear on the last scene.
Hbo: hi Robyn we need you for one scene for the end of the season. Were going to get all the lords together.
Robyn: yeah ok I want $1M
Hbo: we were thinking more like $4000 travel and expenses paid for.

I can't help but think this is just D&D losing it without source material. Both that Arya scene and that Sansa scene aren't in the books (Arya's is another character entirely and since the whole Sansa/Ramsay thing is made up- in the books, it's another girl who's forced to pretend to be Arya who marries Ramsay and escapes with Theon- there's no way she'd have that in the books). It weirdly seems like they chose to add these weirdly out of character, dark scenes for Sansa and Arya (and in Arya's case, make the character much more violent) but then act like they didn't happen while cutting some of Dany's darker moments (like agreeing to have someone tortured for information in Meereen) and having her end up crazy. That's not how you set up characters for logical conclusions, it's just bad writing.

I'm just saying that a scene like that (and other darker scenes of Dany's that were cut) would go a long way to setting up this ending- like showing she'd agree to torture someone in Meereen establishes that she'll blur the line or right and wrong and use dark methods to get to what she thinks is right. And adding darker material for Sansa and Arya and making Arya way more violent and cutting a lot of her more heroic/compassionate moments (like giving water to the dying men in Braavos and the Riverlands, caring for Weasel, saving Sam in Braavos, etc.). Like we get to see Arya has nightmares of killing people in Braavos even though those people were unambiguously awful people, that was kind of needed for the show if you ask me; it's just plain odd if this is the conclusion you wanted to reach.You're right, it's just shock value ugh

Had to do with how they wanted to do the episodes. They were going to be very expensive. You can see 8.3 and 8.5 in all its visuals, CGI, stunts and production. They allocated for less episodes but to make them how they wanted it.
We now have seen how these turned out. So much for quality over quantity.

That's bullshit. Adapting a Novel for TV most of the times ends with bad TV series. (Or movies) The producers / directors for GoT did a good job in adapting the source for TV and you have to give them the credits here. There are only two things that went wrong. GoT surpassed the novels which means that there was less guidance for the general story. Plus the producers decided that they should wrap GoT with one season. I like the themes of the last season, they simply had to rush it...

You can't seriously expect the show writers to deliver a story as good as was Martin wrote. The first book was published in 1996, he works on the current one for multiple years. The show releases annually, they have one year to work with...
It's a bit of a dilemma. It probably would be better for the show to wait for the books to be finished but then, many would complain about a year-long gap between seasons.

Good example for this might be fullmetal alchemist. The first anime is regarded as not-good because they surpassed the source material. THe second one is highly acclaimed because it was adapted after the mangas were finished. (afaik)
The reason I argue with you guys here is simply that I don't like hate trains. I don't like that now people pop up and criticize stuff that is actually ok. For instance the way that Daenerys and Tyrion are portrait. The issue is not how they behave, the issue is that the character development was rushed in a few episodes.

Ep 1 I did everything to get home early from my shift. Tried to puppy dog eye my co-worker who doesn't watch the show....failed. But made it home only about an hour after it aired.
I even requested off for the 19th so I could have a GoT watch party at a friends house. One of those friends works with me. We have now upped the alcohol required for the night. We aren't rushing to get home from work. Hell the words "it's recorded anyway" were spoken about the final episode cause one person might be running late. We wouldn't have dreamed that sentiment was possible for the finale of GoT. We are reaching the point of ambivalence.

@@awesomemanuXD They replace Arya's ACOK material, the horrors she experiences at Harranhal were very crucial for her character development while the scenes in the show between Tywin and Arya are great scenes individually but they all treat the exact same story beats and do much less for her development. It's a good example of D&D: Great individual scenes but adding up to mean very little.

Farhad Jaffi I Must say that there were still a lot of deaths in there. Killing Jaime and Cersei alone was big. They killed so many more on the way. We just don’t get that feeling anymore, where we see a character dying who we thought he will never die. GRRms goal was to make you hype about who could die, as nobody was safe anymore, and it worked until Jon snows „death“, after that, we just didn’t care anymore who will die and who not, we knew that someone will die, and because it’s the last season they couldn’t just kill Jon and dany, it would leave a gap now that pretty much every other character is dead.

I can see the need for speeding things up because there's a lot to finish up. But then ... they do like at least 10mins of stupid camera runs about "horrors of war" or some other shit which doesn't advance the plot at all. I mean wtf? You can see people cared aboit the production of this show and they pulled out all the stops in Episode 5. The cinematography was amazing, symbolism, expressionism - it was just wonderful to behold.... But then you think about the plot and you have a bad taste in your mouth.

Besides I dont think any of the characters that are alive in either the books or the show, have never done anything morally questionable.
At this point, I am not even getting hurt because these are not characters I loved and it isn`t canon. It is some weird high budget fanfic written by people who never wrote fanfiction properly. The true ending will be books if they ever come out. Until then I consider this story open ended after season 5.

Yea the actors wanted to tell everyone about it so bad. Now I can understand their suspicious face expressions.
Some of the less established/experienced actors look downright afraid to speak their minds. Bad mouthing a production is a good way to self-sabotage your career. Then you've got guys like Peter Dinklage who are comfortable just opening mocking the bad writing
I don't think it is as bad as everyone says it is. The ideas are good, but the execution feels rushed! I don't have a problem with Jaime relapsing and accepting who he is, I think it's a neat twist to his arc, it is how he views himself and not how we view him (it surely came from George). I also don't have a problem with Arya killing the NK, Daenerys going mad, Euron killing Raeghal, Missandei dying, etc. It's just that it felt rushed because of it being a short season! The whole spawning of unsullied and dothraki is also silly and could be solved if they had her say that she had men guarding strongholds like Casterly and Dragonstone, or they could have gendry be settled as Lord of the storm lands and bring his armies, meanwhile, also seeking the support of the tullys and the dornish (like Jon did with the northern houses in S6). That way, she would have an army and it wouldn't be confusing! I'm not mad and hatefull towards the season, but I'm sad we didn't get a 10 or more episodes season to move the story at a good pace... We could have had all of these ideas executed, but they would feel more earned

D&D: Daenerys kind of forgot about the Iron Fleet... BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
1. Daenerys kind of forgot that she didn't want to be the Queen of Ashes or anything like her father, so she burned them all.
2. Tyrion kind of forgot that he hated his sister, so he pleaded with her to save herself and her child in Episode 4 by surrendering.
3. Cersei kind of forgot that she hired Bronn to kill Tyrion and wanted him dead, so she called off the archers.
4. Cersei kind of forgot that she doesn't really care about the people of King's Landing and there would be no consequences for straight up killing Tyrion, Daenerys, and Drogon right outside the city gates in Episode 4, so she practiced good restraint and let them live.
5. Jaime kind of forgot that he killed King Aerys II to save the people of King's Landing, so he told Tyrion that he never really cared about the people.
6. Brienne kind of forgot her code of honor, so she agreed to premarital sex with Jaime.
7. Cersei kind of forgot that she hired Bronn to kill Jaime, too, so she embraced him just before death.
8. Euron and all the ballista operators kind of forgot how to aim their ballistas, so they all got wrecked by Drogon.
9. The Dothraki kind of forgot that they went extinct in Episode 3, so they led the charge into King's Landing in Episode 5.
10. The Unsullied kind of forgot that they lost half of their entire force in Episode 3, so they decided to respawn for Episode 5.
