Once steven wilson and mikael akerfeldt started collaborating together, opeth slowly moved towards softer stuff (progressive rock) while porcupine tree started to become heavier (started having a more metal sound). Both had a big influence on each other i think, or at least it seems that way haha.

don't know if you're familiar with Damnation album from Opeth, but basically every song from it is worth checking out :D I'm not gonna lie, it's my favourite album, not only considering their discography, but in general, I can listen it anytime, anyday :D
I don't hate their mixing death metal with progressive rock, but after all I like consistency of Damnation, where they focus on progressive music only with great success imho, and Windowpane song from this album, was the first song I've heard from them, and made me checking their whole discography (also the fact Steven Wilson was producing this album with them, just speaks for itself, how good it just had to be)
songs like "Windowpane", "Hope Leaves" or "In My Time Of Need" are just true beauties :D

If you want the "other side" of Opeth, try Nepenthe, Harvest, Eternal Rains Will Come, or *definitely* something from Damnation, i.e. Windowpane.
If you want to try an "older song" I think is highly underrated, try When (either live or studio). Or "Ghost of Perdition".
See the problem is their music is so different and all so amazing. I'm just going to stop now.

This was the first Opeth song I ever heard. I still remember hearing that outro for the first time, incredible. Lopez' drumming throughout is crazy good (to be honest, he's amazing in all their songs, probably my favourite drummer ever), and no disrespect to Axe either. Wasn't sure at first, but you know, he's crazy good too :p
Also have to say I think Opeth have always been my favourite band in terms of riffs and solo's. They really do create some of the coolest and chunkiest sounding guitar parts in the metal world if you ask me. The cleanly sung parts in this are also heavenly. I kind of wish Mikael had stuck to that, but kept the heavy riffs. If you are a big prog fan though, you'd probably love their later stuff, it's super proggy, try; "Eternal Rains Will Come" if you get the time.

It was so nice looking someone listening for the first time to my two favorite bands (Tool and Opeth). Your reaction to the grudge by Tool was... Speechless ? :D
Even though i would put Tool as my favorite, i make my comment on Opeth vid since it seems it needs more love ;)
Some suggestions for those bands, even if it's hard to choose :
    Tool :
    Parabol + Parabola (Lateralus)
    46 & 2 (Aenima)
    Opeth (no growls) :
    To bid you farewell (Morningrise)
Hope Leaves (Damnation - This album has no growls (like latests albums) and no distortions (unique in their discography), and it's a really good one)
    Opeth (with growls) :
    Master's Apprentice (Deliverance)
    Bleak (blackwater park)
Black Rose Immortal (Morningrise - if you can handle the ~25 minutes)
I also see a lot of good songs in other people comments too ! Just pick any of them ;)
Keep the good work, and sorry for the wall of text !
PS : Even if this could be true for Opeth aswell, you should really take the time to listen to the full Tool albums once you've done your reaction videos (Lateralus is my favorite, but it's just personnal taste). It's really something that you should try if you like the band, it's another experience from listening "randomly" to the songs.

Deliverance is definetly a masterpiece!, that ending always gives me goosebumps :)
I Highly recommend checking out Slugdge - Putrid Fairytale, their latest album ''Esoteric Malacolgy'' (2018) might be in my personal metal top 5 albums of the year, they are a 2-man band from the UK (after the release of this album they were joined by bassist Moat Lowe (No Sin Evades His Gaze) and drummer Alan Cassidy (The Black Dahlia Murder), this song features high energy, awesome guitar riffs/solo's, pretty brutal growling vocals with now and then a bit of clean. Their lyrics are based around some sort of fantasy malacology universe (Slugs, Slime, Squids etc...), i hope all this will convince you to do a reaction on these guys. :)

This song is bloody brilliant. I would really appreciate if you did more songs straight from their records. Their production is great (especially after Deliverance and forward). So a tip is maybe Masters' Apprentices from this record, Closure (Damnation) if you want a jazzy alt pop song, Reverie/Harlequin Forest (Ghost Reveries), or MAYBE just maybe The Devil's Orchard (Heritage) which is a great prog rock song (at this point Mikael stopped doing growling vocals).

Production is by Steve Wilson, of course, of Porcupine Tree fame. Try listening to PTs Aneasthetise….I believe it will be your sort of thing :)

Could you listen to an up and coming band, and help give them more exposure.🙏 please react to Sinaro - breaking the paradigm , the living dead, they are amazing, sound like trivium And silent civilian.

I always have liked Deliverance the least out of all their albums. there is a reason for this. Deliverance was a stressful album to record for Mikael and the gang, literally nothing worked as intended in the studio. And the lack of energy and just the overall "i'm so sick of this" can be heard all over in this album. it's definitely their least creative album to date.

this is very different to black metal, this is death metal, death metal is faster and more technical and black metal is very slow and atmospheric and slow, but nonetheless great video.

      opeth started as black metal.
their first 2 albums were pure black metal. with their third album still were blackish but they became more progressive. fourth album and they were full on Progressive death metal.

Remastered version sounds way better in any case !

Very hard to choose I reckon. When listening to Damnation I think the remaster is definitely better, it's so crisp and clean, but for Deliverance I think the original Steven Wilson master has a slight edge. It's just dirtier in its sound which suits it better I think. I bloody love that album though, I flogged it mercilessly when it first came out so I have that familiarity thing going on for sure. Bruce Soords remaster, as good as it is, just sounds a bit too shiny and polished for Deliverance. Just my 2c.

Personally, I think the new production is garbage... Thankfully, I can keep my old version with me...

Oh wow, he's listened to the bullshit remastered version with reamped guitars and sampled drums. >_> The original is so much more dynamic and representative of that age of Opeth.

I love this song and i love Opeth but this song could do with a bit of editing and lose the last few minutes because the ending drags on with the same riff over and over and i just space out and lose interest. Just my 2 cents from a longtime Opeth fan.

It does go on, but I don't mind that, it's a really cool bit of riffage!
