When I was little this was on my Frog Song VHS and it was always so catchy and relaxing to watch. I can't believe we finally found this again with vague memories. Thanks for uploading.
My mum brought me and my brother a video of rupert and the frog song and this was on it!, was awesomely funny..ive been looking for this for so long..all those lovely memories coming back =D
Whoa! I haven't heard this in at least 17 years or something... Thank you so much. This animation was burned in to my mind, and I'd never heard reggae guitar before either :)
This song is very catchy and at the same time it's kind of cute, Linda McCartney wrote the song as her very first song, and it was recorded with Wings. When the song itself saw the light of day I think as a single, at the same time they wanted a music video to be animated for the song, and the style and the look of this video and animation, was inspired by Jamaica. Linda and Paul McCartney went to Jamaica with their daughters at some point during the early 70s, after their vacation at Jamaica that was the inspiration for Linda to write this song. And of course this music video and the animation was inspired by Jamaica so well. One thing for sure, I don't want anybody saying that this videos controversial and racist, because I don't see anything bad or racist of this music video. This was a creation of both Paul and Linda McCartney, because of Linda's first song, and I think the inspiration to the song Seaside Woman and this music video we're very well done and is a part of Linda McCartney's Legacy along with the band Wings
+Dan Guiana that was McCartney's idea to put Oriental Nightfish on the VHS. This and Rupert were the best two, but oriental Nightfish used to give me nightmares for weeks after watching it
So glad someone else noticed! I was just looking for the Kia-Ora ads because I loved them when I was a kid (I lived in Scotland then), and was shocked to read all the critical comments, apparently from Americans, calling them racist. I remembered seeing something similar years ago and thought it might be "Seaside Woman" and I was right. Far less disparaging here; they are both cute and visually appealing :)
@Aquillyne it's not racists - Oscar Grillo the director of the piece was inspired by the artwork of Gauguin and wanted to use as many solid blocks of colour for this short as he could, the characters skin colour [pure black] works within the context of the style the director was going for.
Well, this is so obviously Wings when you listen. I really like the last 30 seconds...the ambiant sounds. Not a put down, I just thot it was debris at first, but it has it's own flavor.
I remember this animation from the Rupert and the Frog Song VHS as well - looking at it now this is a good song but I dont think the animation could be made like this today. I found the third animation (Oriental Nightfish) weird and slightly scary.
OMG, I thought that was just a random tape my parents made, but it's ACTUALLY at the end of rupert?? I had that as a kid too!! And there's a nekkid woman in it!! Cat -x-
@celticgirl08 I watched Rupert, Fish and Seaside when I was 3 as well. The first I loved. It was so charming and magical. The second was weird and slightly scary. Seaside Woman freaked me out completely with it's jagged, posterised depiction of reality.
I thought I dreamt this...it’s not something that you could see often because...well...as a black woman I can see this HIGHLY RACIST . But I didn’t see it that way. I still don’t. It’s a bit odd, yes... but Mc Cartney is brilliant. Hard to get mad at ‘em. The sound and vision are beautiful. Thank you, Facebook. You never let me down 🙏🏾 wow... I totally forgot it was credited as Suzy & the Red Stripes. Totally forgot...
@Aquillyne True but my opinion is that it's not really a problem unless it's done in malice. Japanese teenagers love to get these dark tans that some mistake for blackface but it actually some mountain witch thing, so it's only a problem because the accuser thinks it's a problem. I would be mad as hell if he made us act like idiots and killers, but he actually shows a type of compassion in this video. Plus if you've seen African or Aboriginal artwork you just think it was cute.
@LyricalLoki Likewise! I thought my mum had just been irresponsible and accidentally strung some 4am broadcast of x-rated acid trip horror shows on the end of my adored Rupert!
@Aquillyne: I don't think it is racist, at all. On the contrary, it makes the video look more fun. Their 'black' color matches with the rest of the colors used in the video. Besides, their eyes are more noticeable that way. I love the gilr's eyes :) they are so cute. I used to see this video (along with Ruppert's song and that creepy fish thingy) when I was like 3 years old :) *
You could make a great two or three LP "greatest hits" of Paul's work after The Beatles, but there's just so, so much garbage from that era. You can tell Paul was just having a good time, recording music, not worrying too much about being great.
@Tekena1200 What, like blackface gollywogs?! C'mon. It's like depicting Chinese people as bright yellow Simpsons. It's a depiction understood only via racist stereotypes.
Exactly. And that's what political correctness is - politics. Something that can be twisted into an 'issue' to rile people up and get votes by then presenting oneself as part of the 'solution' to that issue. All it does is drive people apart. I don't believe it's a reflection of how people really feel, other than the very few with warped ideas.
There is NOTHING "racist" about this cartoon. Sadly, you seem unable to experience the pure joy of this charming animated film with such lively music. It is about Caribbean people, that's it!! It does NOT put them down or have any hate in it at all. It's all LOVE here, the OPPOSITE of racism. Too bad you just don't get the joke here....it's all FUN.
Holy crap this was freaky too! Who else thinks it's racist to depict black people as actually literally zero-light-emitting purest charcoal BLACK!? Not to mention freaky.
Beneless, are you sure Linda wrote that middle part in Live and Let die? it's so Paul! Just like lots of thing he did. Unless she copied him. She could not sing either. Very weak and unpleasent voice. As for writing...I still have doubts. Maybe one note...? with a little help from his friend.
The animation was outstanding. So was the song. Linda McCartney knocked it out of the park.
Linda was very talented. She was an integral part of Wings.
When I was little this was on my Frog Song VHS and it was always so catchy and relaxing to watch. I can't believe we finally found this again with vague memories. Thanks for uploading.
I remember having that vhs as well.
Still have mine😂 so many happy memories watching the frog song and this
This bought tears to my eyes. brings back so many great childhood memories
My aunty had an old VHS tape of Rupert the Bear, and this was on that same video. Haven't seen this in about 15 years, so many memories.
i had this video when i was younger rupet bear seaside woman and the oriental nightfish were on this vhs i loved it :)
invisiblelizards Same!!! :D
I absolutely loved this as a kid. Nostalgia
I always liked this song! Love Linda NcCartney.
Still have this on video somewhere. Such a catchy song, gets in your head all day!
Love and miss Linda - this is AWESOME!
Damn that has really brought some childhood memories flooding back!! Great find!
My mum brought me and my brother a video of rupert and the frog song and this was on it!, was awesomely funny..ive been looking for this for so long..all those lovely memories coming back =D
Linda had a great singin' voice, in her own right. RIP, the Lovely Linda!
thanks for keeping Linda's memory alive...
Joe in NH.
I love the colors in this video
I always thought the little girl was so adorable in this!
Whoa! I haven't heard this in at least 17 years or something... Thank you so much. This animation was burned in to my mind, and I'd never heard reggae guitar before either :)
It's interesting, the animation for this was done by the same people who later did the advert for the Ki Ora orange drink
I always loved Linda’s voice. Her backing vocals on “Ram” and in Wings made the albums even more unique
In this sad winter, when I think that all I want is a little of sunny I listen this song xD
yes ! aaka-chika, aaka-chika, aaka-chika, aaaah. brilliant. thank you ! x
MEMORIES! 🙏😭
Rest In Peace Linda

First time I've heard this song in 30 years.
whos crazy idea was it to put this and Oriental Nightfish on a rupert bear vhs!
With Rupert the bear on 1st
+Dan Guiana that was McCartney's idea to put Oriental Nightfish on the VHS. This and Rupert were the best two, but oriental Nightfish used to give me nightmares for weeks after watching it
I remember as a child watching it, loving the first two but being super ????? at Oriental Nightfish. Love it now though. so kooky!
It was certainly one of the more confusing videos in my family's bookshelf! Nonetheless, it got watched a fair bit, and I think we have it even now
Used to ready love this song alot when I was a kid
I had a bootleg copy of this as a kid, it was on a vhs with more Disney bootlegs
omg I've been looking for this for years, thanks for posting this just made my day!! =)
"Oh..... Seaside Woman....!!!" 😎💜💙💚

Haven't heard this since i was a kid
Thanks for pointing this out; that is very interesting about the Gauguin inspiration. I think the animation is beautiful!
You can hear that octave interval motif throughout the entire song.
@Aquillyne it's not racists - Oscar Grillo the director of the piece was inspired by the artwork of Gauguin and wanted to use as many solid blocks of colour for this short as he could, the characters skin colour [pure black] works within the context of the style the director was going for.

i didnt like the oriental nightfish at first it did scare me. since ive grown up i now really like it
Not to mention blatantly racist.
It was actually written solely by Linda. Check out the 1986 remix video on UA-cam.
Vi esse vídeo numa edição do antigo "Lanterna Magica", da TV Cultura, em 1990.
OMG, I thought that was just a random tape my parents made, but it's ACTUALLY at the end of rupert?? I had that as a kid too!! And there's a nekkid woman in it!!
Cat -x-
Brilliant. I can't find Oriental Nightfish though. I thought that was wierd when I was about 8!!
@celticgirl08 I watched Rupert, Fish and Seaside when I was 3 as well. The first I loved. It was so charming and magical. The second was weird and slightly scary. Seaside Woman freaked me out completely with it's jagged, posterised depiction of reality.
Hermosos dibujos de Oscar Grillo!
this was on the rupert the bear tape along with oriental night fish i love lostening to them on my ipod so if you want the mp3 or video message me
My granddad played this to me when i was little
wonderful acid nights as well
haha, i remember watching this on betamax when i was little and getting sketched out with the oriental nightfish video
I thought I dreamt this...it’s not something that you could see often because...well...as a black woman I can see this HIGHLY RACIST . But I didn’t see it that way. I still don’t. Mary MayB. They probably didn't mean it they were on drugs after all lol
random person True true... I was right there with em 🤪
Mary MayB. 😉😂
random person nah, Linda said she didn’t want to publish it with her name in an interview
Munevver Guler I never knew that
Apparently this was recorded in Lee Perry's Black Ark studio!!! Check out the Wikipedia article on Black Ark....
you know, this song was the only one of the ENTITRE frog chorus viedo that used to make me smile, the others i really didn't like
@Aquillyne True but my opinion is that it's not really a problem unless it's done in malice. Japanese teenagers love to get these dark tans that some mistake for blackface but it actually some mountain witch thing, so it's only a problem because the accuser thinks it's a problem.

That's weird, I accidentally brought this videos up twice and they were in perfect sync. I cut one off and my sound dropped completely!
@ramoneschick1 omg same, and oriental nightfish D: tbh, i loved this more thatn rupert and the frog song :)
@LyricalLoki Likewise! I thought my mum had just been irresponsible and accidentally strung some 4am broadcast of x-rated acid trip horror shows on the end of my adored Rupert!
Gianni Ciardo - Italo
keep expecting it to break into the Kia-Ora advert music
The animation was done by the same studio for the video to this
can you give me a free download?
i hear no red stripes :(
@Aquillyne: I don't think it is racist, at all. On the contrary, it makes the video look more fun. Their 'black' color matches with the rest of the colors used in the video. Besides, their eyes are more noticeable that way. I love the gilr's eyes :) they are so cute.

@Aquillyne Not really, I don't even think it's bad to depict s with giant red lips.
Why do you think they ruin it?
they don't make these great music and cartoons nowdays. only the people around 2:50 ruin the cartoon, just as the people on the end of the video
@Tekena1200 What, like blackface gollywogs?! C'mon. It's like depicting Chinese people as bright yellow Simpsons. It's a depiction understood only via racist stereotypes.
Dear god, what were they thinking? This must be the most offensive cod reggae tune ever produced.
It is a refreshing lack of political correctness

Wouldn't this videos be considered racist? Music okay. I remember hearing it on the radio once or twice when it came out around 1976. Rose Prulx
A lovely slice of unintentional racism from 1977. Sigh.
and intentional from 3months ago above. also sigh :)
I think it's beautiful... no racism here.... it's playing withe the notion of black and white....
Spoken like the racist you have shown yourself to be soulstylist!
SoulStylistJukeBox what on earth are you talking about?
There is NOTHING "racist" about this cartoon. Sadly, you seem unable to experience the pure joy of this charming animated film with such lively music. It is about Caribbean people, that's it!! BLOODY HELL! Irremember I saw this as a child in about 94 and OMG is it racist as heck.
Holy crap this was freaky too! Who else thinks it's racist to depict black people as actually literally zero-light-emitting purest charcoal BLACK!? Not to mention freaky.
what's with the golliwog little girl?
Its Jamaican
