- Hey All, In this video we attempt to drive our 1971 F350 Camper 1500+ Miles From Washington to Arizona. It was an overall awesome roadtrip but 900 miles in. Dusty Roads had s catastrophic failure so it didnt make it all the way.

It is always cool seeing older vehicles go on road trips. I have a soft spot for old Ford Trucks.
Don’t we all I mean just look at them they’re beautiful
I’m beyond jealous of all y’all’s old crew cabs. So rare in those body styles. Great taste in beautiful trucks dude!!
don't take this the wrong way but it's because of people like them that those trucks are so rare they're not hard to find yes there's a lot of them out there but you pay out of the ass for them because the majority of them are either scrapped out for parts or restored and because so many are scrapped out for parts it reduces the numbers of the ones that are left being restored which makes the price of the restored ones go even higher so again I say for those who can afford it all due respect but they are the reason you can't find these trucks just laying around and for a good price
Man that's a hell of trip I would have killed to do that with you guys. Awesome vid
Murderer
245 gallons one way. Those trucks were the last of the trucks that you could repair yourself along side of the road. One time passing through Arkansas my oil pump seized up and I replaced it right along side the interstate. Caught a ride into to town, bought an oil pump, and the person that picked me up took me back to my truck. Good Samaritan! Jacked up the engine, dropped the oil pan just enough to reach in and replace the pump and back on the road in a couple of hours. What a great venture!
As a Ford guy myself looking at that long side shot of all those beautiful Fords lined up like that! Yeah new screen saver pic, Thank you and stay safe guys
Awesome journey, Awesome story...
Love seeing these old trucks on the road, I learned to drive in a '62 F100 unibody...
Right on
I had the 79 f350 camper special.
Avg. 7.5 miles to the gallon.
It was all original except for an Edelbrock carb. 87,000 miles on it in 2011.
Wow that tailgate is beautiful. Perfect mix of patina and intact paint. Hopefully it gets a special place on your wall.
Can’t beat the car and truck community. We all know the struggles of getting an old vehicle across the finish line keep up the good work love the channel. 345 gallons
You guys make a fella feel like a regular ass dude with my plane Jane 85 short bed. Got me wanting to build a camper for mine or just buy a 80-86 f250 or 350 for a camper trucker. Definitely my dream to travel the country in my 85 after I retire in 25 years....well shit....thats quite aways away.
we all start somewhere
You guys Have such an awesome collection of old ford trucks and they are awesome looking Not the mention that camper too Way to go fellas...
i love the good old fords
I'm absolutely in love with your rig. Great series!
Glad you enjoy it!
Excellent adventure lots of good friends out there Can’t wait for the rest of the trip
LOL: You make doing a trip in a 1971 Ford Camper sound like a big thing, Try traveling from Redding, California to North West Missouri plus many off side trips along the way plus traveling over 300 miles in Missouri Oldsmobile built in 1951 with a Briggs Stratton 16 H.P Engine. and then back to California in a 1901 Oldsmobile Reproduction Curved Dash in May traveling the Highways , Freeways and Byways on the trip across California, Nevada, Utah, down Interstate 80 as well as Interstate 15 to Highway 50 East over and across Colorado, Nebraska and then Kansas and into Missouri, with a 3 gallons gas tank. I did that in Honor of the American Fallen Warriors . On what you would call a Lawnmower motor. Now tell me about your Luxury Trip and I never stayed in a Motel the whole distance on the main trip. I slept in a Bed Roll Sleeping Bag and ate cheap food. Not Restaurant food.
First time I've seen your channel. Damn, those are some nice trucks. Love the retro travel trailer. Couldn't believe it was a 2015 model.
thanks for watching. I appreciate that. That shocked me too
Last year I drove my 66 Chevy 5300 miles in two weeks on a road trip. If you take care of them they take care of you.
Oh no. Sorry bout your trials Brother. Hope you all recover your losses. Good people make things happen. And it comes back around. Love Y'all
Well said
Love this episode...planning to make a trip with my 86 k10 pulling an airstream ...during summer!!!
Go for it!
Dusty is by far my favorite on the channel . I love all the trucks but Dusty Roads is just too cool ! And getting the guys together to go with you with their trucks man thats what its about making memories .
Right on, I love it too
The Best Part is THAT There OLD IRON & You Can't Beat Old Iron. . .
I think these types of ford's are the best American style
True old school would have had you flipping the air cleaned lid upside-down for extra airflow and the whooooosh when you kick in the 4 barrel.
simply amazing!!!! tremendous trip, and tremendous community. my congratulations to all, greetings from Argentina
Thanks a lot!
Ended up finding it. It was in Prosser, WA. Not Umatilla, OR. Randy was a super chill dude. Got me a tailgate and a grille for a very fair price👍
Rock on! glad you found it
Great Trip, I know exactly where your at, I sold in 74 Ford Flatbed 1 Ton just a month ago.
What an adventure !

Outstanding... can't wait for more videos...
More to come!
My driver's are a 1950 Studebaker 4 door Champion that is now for sale and a 1951 Studebaker Pickup I have built into woody Camper Pickup that will sleep two in the same bed. I don't like sleeping alone. LOL
Was that an Australian Ford Falcon in the background of the opening scene? Noice!
it was yes, Its an XA Falcon
Wow these old crew cab Fords are awesome! Just started watching this video and had to comment, had to subscribe and will watch entire video. Love Ford trucks!
Awesome, thank you!
That white 74 was pretty nice. That’s also a pretty cool junkyard. Been there a couple times before.
a small electric space heater can plug right into one of those RV outlets and will keep you toasty warm. we used one all the time; almost never run the gas furnace in our 12 year old RV
Sorry the trucks broke down. What happened to the 1977 Ford reminds me of a story my dad told me. This happened just before my brother was born and about 2 years before I was born. Dad bought a brand new 1970 Ford F250 Camper Special out of Eatonville, WA. I think he ordered it from the factory. It was 2 wheel drive, 360 V8 with 3:09 gears. That was pretty high gears for a 3/4 ton designed to haul loads. So my mom and dad decided to visit family in Eastern Washington right after acquiring the truck. Dad said they were crossing the Saddle Mountain Range on I-90 having to hit it in 2nd gear with no load because of the high gears. About halfway up, people started honking and waving them down. Dad saw a trail of smoke so he stopped. Turns out the transmission got hot and overflowed, catching the undercoat on fire. Can't remember how he got it out, but a tow truck out of George (yes, it's on the map) took the truck to the Ford dealership in Euphreta. They discovered the factory way overfilled the transmission, causing it to overheat and boil over. They drained it and put in the correct amount and never had trouble with that again. The only complaint was the truck was underpowered and got poor mileage mainly due to the high gears in the back.
thats a story right there
Love the camper/trailer road trip. I’m a bit older than you all, I have a 62 F100 and a 65 Airstream but my dream was always a 65 or 66 six-pack to pull trailer or car (I also own real Shelby). Back in 90s I spotted six-pack in Sandy Oregon, then another in San Francisco, and another in 2000s in Delta Junction Alaska but never got chance to buy. Think I missed that boat, you guys made them too desirable! Have fun, great stuff!!!
That is neat, It is still cheaper then a shelby
It was a long trip Laura Keep going keep it going
I recently spent 24 days on a 4300 mi roadtrip after a year or so working on my truck. It was awesome and very relaxing. Truck ran flawless and even pulled a stuck bus out of the mud saving the struggling family a $4-500 tow bill. Spent 4 nights driving/camping on the beach at South Padre Island TX, just north of the city there a couple of Cty Park beach access. $12/day or $30/30 days. Highly recommended
sounds awesome
@@FordEra It was, I never paid more than the $30, to stay anywhere. Rest was all free camping. Got back just as fuel prices were starting to get absolutely ridiculous
I will come down and visit you all sometime. I have a 1970 F100 4X4 that now has a Mercedes diesel. I have owned it for 25 years. In the middle of redoing the body and interior.
Drive by your shop few times a week didn't know there was a channel. Glad to see I'm not the only one left who road trips these old trucks.
heck yea
Solomon ….I calculated 290 gallons for your trip from Washington State to Scottsdale Arizona ( One Way )Great Show my Friend !!! Love the Content !!!!!
Gotta love them!! We are so much in love with those old girls we will never learn. I once drove a 1979 F350 crew cab dually from Indianapolis to San Antonio doing 45mph non stop. Overheating in the month of July and no brakes. Bought on eBay and owner claim it was a mechanically sound truck. Bad deal but I made it home. This past weekend I was in California picking parts for my obs and excursion that I’m building and one of the OfferUp deals turned out to be scam. Fortunately for me, someone on Saturday night in Phoenix posted the 2011-2016 bumpers for a F250 for my excursion for less money and had my son pick them up. But the scammer made me spend a night in Anaheim. Oh well God is good and people are crazy!
What were you picking up in California that was a scam?
oh man
Dang! Kyles rig and camper are Beautiful! 😳
Those are what I call some really nice rids, that would be so fun.
Definitely!
You are awesome brother. 👌
Those two guys look like they would be fun to travel with. Cool trucks. Next time put in more raw B-roll of them trucks pulling!
Add some curtains on your windows and it will help with the cold
Love this video. Love the trucks. Love the channel. Love the trip. Thanks for taking us along for the journey. Just one thing, when you stop for gas - tell us where you are. It would help us keep track of how far you've come and how much further we still have to go. We all don't know this part of the country as well as you do. You are travelling through some nice areas and stops along the way would give us perspective. Thank you and keep up the good work. Love the drone shots btw.
thank you and that is noted i will try to next time
Hey Solomon, Good stuff. Those are some nice travel arrangements. Looks like you're roughing it compared to the others in their luxury units!!😆
You got that right!
Good folks erwhere!
I saw a nice 55 Ford with a glass on the side It needs saving good scrapyard to revisit
awesome rigs
F350 = 6 miles to the gallon divided by 1500 miles = 250 gallons one way $2400.00 round trip INSANE !!!!!
Great video !
Glad you enjoyed it
I got a 98 class C~ E~350, and also wanted to take a huge road trip, but I first need to replace the upper and lower ball joints on the independent suspension Just got 4 new aluminum wheels and 7 brand new tires, but the gas prices are killing the road trip.
Was stationed in Washington! Beautiful place overall ! Love the video!
Yes! Thank you!
Great truck...240 gallons
Use an electric ceramic space heater when camping. Might as well use the power you paid for. Even if you had a propane furnace.
Love the trucks, got to see them at Good guy's.
Right on!
I have done that twice iny 95 obs 5.0 but if you was all the way out in Eli you should have check out the town cherry creek but I think y'all boys didn't do a proper oil change would have made a great difference in y'all's trip now here.
Respect for the xa coupe they’re even hard to find in Australia alone
Sweet Broncos
I have had to replace that donut twice on my 353 ci
You did such a great job with that camper
thanks bud
Sending love from Aruba 🇦🇼 nice trip ❤️🔥
Thank you 🙌
Great video
Thanks!
To me it looks like you have to much wait in the front of those caravan's all the best to you all
bit of a tip not sure if it's exactly the same size or not but it looks like it should be close I believe it was late 80s to early 2000s Chevy c3500 have the exact same wheel spacers in the front stock it would definitely be cheaper to getting a new custom made spacer if it would fit I'm sure the lug patterns are probably different and you may have to look into a set of bearings with a correct OD and ID but definitely worth looking into
Thanks for the info
Congrats guys for making-it to Arizona. too bad the 71 rusty didn't make-it. lv the video views.
Thank you
nice xa at 19 secs
Is Dusty getting a 4x conversion? Absolutely love that camper combo, have not seen a lot of crew cabs.
one day
Solomon, this just a suggestion. U should convert to efi, to help with mpg and drivability.
Dammit I wish I’d a known you were staying in Nampa, I woulda dropped by with my ol Ford and said hi
Next time
Hello Solomon. Great video. What tires were on all three of those crew cabs? Looking to get some like that. Thanks
STA Superlugs 9.00 x 16
🤣 some things never change
Sweet video. Was that junkyard outside Ellensburg area? And was the guy willing to part with many parts on those old Fords? Thanks
I don’t remember where and he was stubborn about most
Having done three HRPT long hauls I can attest it is all about the adventures and the friends along the way. Glad to see you made it safely even if a truck down.
Thank you
Im a Ford @Jeep owner and I carry a spare Ignition module under the hood of both my Trucks. :)
your a smart man
Anymore hints on that junkyard location?
Headed thru there twice this weekend
Much appreciated
I really don’t remember any exact info.
When you get gold dust back to Florida id like to come over and take a look at all the trucks .
Gold dust is in florida
So do the air conditioning vents in the hood actually help? I've had a theory about this but haven't tested it🇺🇸⛽️
8 to 12mpg avg 10 mpg 1500 MI 150 x 2 for round trip. That's where my guess comes from don't forget show your work
I have a 1/24 scale model of that exact same trailer.
All the fuel
It was great to see you at Fat Fender.
likewise my brother
*🇺🇸💪MADE IN AMERICA💪🇺🇸*
you guys need to put 30 gallon tanks in those trucks
we need 100 gallon tanks haha
l worked for a furniture moving company in the early 80s (wee-haul dallas tx) where we used our own trucks and they supplied the 28'' trailers. As many moves as you could do as fast as you could do them. lt made you a beast. Pro athletes couldnt hang. After several years of this l learned then what trucks could actually work and what ones couldnt. We were brutalizing 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks there. The Fords won. Like forest gump. Thats all lm gonna say about that.
sounds absolutely right
Did Ford build F-250 Super cab short beds from 73-79? I don't think I've ever seen one. You do a great job of filming.
yes they did
What is the coupe in the background at 00:29? Looks like an Australian XC coupe?
I thought that you would have dual gas tanks on that monster🤷♂️
I guess I was way off on the gas. lol That's road trippin!
Solomon you should swap in a coyote engine into the camper truck
Not a bad idea
A gen set and solar and battery system might be a good thing for dusty trails
eventually
Bummer that your and Brian’s trucks weren’t able to make it under their own power. Nonetheless, awesome trip!
I know!!
8.5 mpg?
where do yall find the amazing crewcabs?
lots of searching
Y’all should get a revcon trailblazer
if i could find one i would
you guys need radios !!!!!!!!
we had but the range wasnt good enough
Good dude you are that is why
thank you
