      Not the best one, to put it mildly, and Saiki's vocal is too loud in the mix.

      I like everything except the chorus (riffs, bridge, solo, verses are good). I suspect that's not going to get any better since I've heard it from Yokohama Arena.

      @@JuanSan66 Yes, I even had this crazy idea that maybe they just wouldn't sing the chorus, but just jump around during it to the accompaniment of the rhythm section, but I won't risk it.

      For me, it's an interesting song. I like it when the Maids explore a new sound like Balance or Bestie for example. It’s not formulaic, if I may say so.😉

    If I hear them play "Magie" live at any future concert, I might just need some assistance getting out of the arena. You can't help but move like a maniac (Maidiac) during the song, and then your body IS going to pay the price!!!!!

    Unprecedented? I don't know. But Band-Maid does what Band-Maid wants, and we are all better for it! 😁

    It's another banger of a song IMO. Different, but still very much Band-Maid. It's a bit in the vain of Corallium (one of my favorites btw) to my ears. The Riff is mental, the solo is great, the rhythm section flows so well and tight. Saiki sounds rather enthusiastic than strained to me, but for sure navigating clearly at her limit (for the moment) here. I'm pretty sure it will be a crowd pleaser live, the crowd at the Osaka Gigantic Festival at least did jump to the song even despite the heat. At this point I would also like to thank my parents for the wonderful genetic mix they did provide me, which made it possible to develop a nice pair of ears who is able to hear every single instrument and note clearly and distinctly here too. The Mix is great IMHO. But ultimately the mix is also a question of taste: many old-school garage rockers love guitars, guitars and even more guitars right up front beside some vocals here and there 🙂. I have the strong impression, that Kanami composes more like a jazz or classic musician, with the whole ensemble sound in mind. Compared to the "classic western rock band" sound - Guitars more Guitars - quite refreshing IMO - and I say that as a Guitar player. But I'm coming from the Jazz-Side, so the B-M mixes do not sound very unfamiliar or strange to me, it's a tight ensemble sound and I like it.

    There's the elements in the music, especially the chorus which Japanese audience of every generation can relate to. That's the traditional Japanese summer festival sound. It's programmed in every Japanese's gene. 😂
    Basically Saiki's singing flute part in the chorus. I can visualise young girls in Yukata jumping to this nostalgic tune (chorus).
    It's an ultimate West meets Japan (both old and modern) song imo.

    Great song, only weakness for me is the lead vocal melody in the chorus. The rest of it over the top in the best way. Saiki as become such a powerful performer and her best stuff showcases her senses of rhythm and timing. (Had to edit this, the chorus melody is growing on me, but I love Saiki's rapid lines before the guitar solo best.)

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 6 місяців тому +4

      I agree, she is straining her voice a lot in this and it's very noticable. That said, this is after a couple of hours in the set, so that's pretty normal, especially since this sounds like it is a bit above her comfortable range. I got a live CD of one of the early Unlucky Morpheus Live performances of 2010-2011 and you can hear Fuki's voice deteriorating during those sets as well, especially since it's a very raw recording (they were only a couple of years old and have always been a self-produced band). There aren't a lot of vocalists who can sing with this intensity for 3+ hours without it reflecting in their voice. It will obviously be very post-produced/cleaned up in the studio version. And I actually have to commend them for not trying to post-produce this performance too much before releasing it (like they did with their early live DVD's/Blu-rays), I personally prefer rawer performances so I appreciate that a lot.

    • @stevekane4922
      @stevekane4922 6 місяців тому +3

      @@MaartenT I'm sure the studio version will be fine, not because of tricks but because she has her voice coach on hand and they take it calmly.

      @@stevekane4922
      Absolutely, I wasn't implying she isn't capable of singing well, I typically love Saiki's vocals. But also, their latest studio releases (especially after going to Pony Canyon) have gotten more post-produced, especially vocally (I would prefer a tiny bit less of that personally, but it's a stylistic choice) and not because they need it but because their probably more J-Pop oriented producers just like to do it like that. There is absolutely no way they are going to release that album without it going over it in post with a fine-tooth comb. That said, this apparently comes off of the Blu-ray that comes with the special edition, the Day Of Maid performance, and I love that they kept this more raw. It's a nice mix of both styles on one release, so everyone can have it the way they prefer (or just enjoy both ways of production).

    I agree with you Wave about the formulaic arrangements, but not in a positive way. Sense, Shambles and Protect You have generally also conformed to this- similar pace (fast), half time drop, short (slow) then fast solo from Kanami and a less melodic vocal line and guitar solo . This is why Bestie was a nice change- pre Unseen World style. I'll give it a while, but I really don't like predictable music from any band. I even gave my favourite band- Black Sabbath, a miss during the 80s when they adopted that U style of rock music.
