Right!. I giggled at "BabyMaid", and then was afraid some commenters might get "offended". Whatevs. Ignore them. This was a fabulous first-time review. If you want to see the ladies at not their cutest, check out "Warning", "Different" or um, "Don't Let Me Down".
IKR? A fan would want people to learn about Band-Maid. These folks are learning, and if they did two hours of research beforehand the whole "reaction" part goes out the window.

i was stationed in northern japan in the mid 80s, and there were these maid cafes where the ladies dress up like maids and serve your drinksand stuff so miku the guitarist and singer worked at one so she thought how about a band that plays hard rock to offset the kawaii!

Band maid is a legit rock band. They are all excellent musicians - better than almost all rock bands. Check out the guitar solo in Real Existence live or Play live. No one plays as well as Kanami save for Eddie Van Halen or Pete Townsend.
Apart from all the female Japanese Metal guitarists, such as Midori and Miyako from Lovebites, Hazuki and Saki from Nemophila, Aldious, Doll$boxx...etc.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-KOO - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine.
Kanami Tono - kah-NAH-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger.
Akane Hirose - ah-KAH-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have.
MISA - MEE-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work.
Saiki Atsumi - SAH-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl.

@@billb.5183 Hmmmm.... You might be right. Some of the pronunciation guides I've checked insist that two vowels equal 2 syllables, but there seem to be some exceptions for personal names. I can't really tell by ear.
Anyone else have advice on this one?
@@GlennWH26 I'm basically going by what I hear people call her. It sounds like she pronounces it that way also when she does interviews. I'm not a Japanese speaker by any means.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. The reason it's hard to pick a particular song is because everything these amazing ladies is fantastic! Hard rock with whatever they want to add in and it blends so well! There are several Band Maid songs that are associated with anime, the latest is Different, the opening to Log Horizon, season 3, and is on in Japan now! Miku Kobato, rhythm guitar, backing vocals and band founder, worked in a Maid Café prior to starting the band and is the inspiration for the name and outfits. Kanami, lead guitar, is a guitar virtuoso and a genius! Misa, the Barefoot Bass Assassin, is one of the best bass players on the planet. Akane, the drummer, was introduced to Jimmy Page(Led Zeppelin) at his request after he watched Band Maid two nights in a row in Japan, and he told her she was one of the best drummers he had ever heard! Saiki, the singer, is really fantastic in her command of an audience, not to mention her voice is amazing! Pizza ear rings! Play, and Domination from this same concert are good next stops for you. No God, Thrill, live, from this years online concert is great too. Warning, Manners, and Afterlife are 2021 releases off Band Maid's latest album, Unseen World, and are fantastic! This song is kind of at the mid-lower end of speed and hardness for them though. They are fantastic live but their last few are online only. Still good however! For live I recommend Domination, No God, Real Existence, Onset. For MV, my personal faves are Dice, Different, Daydreaming, Rinne (Reincarnation).

Miku (Mee-Koo) is one of the hardest working members of Band Maid. Coming from three years working at a Maid-Cafe in Japan with becoming a Japanese "Idol", which fortunate for us, failed. She is the founder, costume designer, PR spokesperson for not just Band Maid but did many appearances for the Japan travel show "Japan in Motion" a show that highlights the many beautiful sights and things to do in Japan. Knowing her voice alone was not strong enough for lead singe, she stepped aside and they found Saiki for lead. She did a recent April Fools "Solo Project" with her newly formed band "Cluppo" which is a fun tune named "Peace and Love". ua-cam.com/video/kR-FPvYgPjM/v-deo.html When she formed Band Maid she had little guitar experience but in a very short time became is a little monster on rhythm guitar and has her own Zemaitis signature guitar. Great reaction and this band has a dream to conquer the world, starting out with a 810 year old small pigeon getting tired of working in a maid cafe for bread crumbs to gathering a flock of four of the best musicians and creating what today is the best hard rock band in the world. Yay! One of my favorite bands! Yeah, the lead guitarist, bassist, and the drummer are absolute beasts on their instruments. I'll be around anytime you do one of their songs. I love their music, even more than I like pizza earrings, and obviously, that's saying something.

"Freedom" is a great intro song for BAND-MAID. As far as where to go next, I know a lot of people are going to recommend the live version of "Domination." That's a fantastic song, but I'd recommend doing the live version of "Play" first. "Domination" was the song played second-to-last in this show, and "Play" was the song before it. Both songs are from the same show as "Freedom," and both songs are on BAND-MAID's official channel. I'll leave links anyway.

In 2016, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin caught a performance of Band-Maid in Tokyo and asked for a photo-op with their drummer, Akane Hirose. Reportedly he told her that she was like a reincarnation of John Bonham.
For those who don't know, BAND-MAID played in the Classic Rock Awards 2016 and received the Japan Next Generation prize. After the show Jimmy Page, asked Akane for a photo.

I would recommend you watch 'Thrill' offical music video , their first release from 2013 and then 'Warning', again the official music video and see how far they have come in 7 years,'Thrill' is still a great song and one of my top Band Maid songs. I'm going to jump on the train for more Band-Maid. Domination (official live video) should be your next Band-Maid song, but since you Brought up anime, they have two songs connected to anime. Different (mv) is the opening theme for the 3rd season of Log Horizon. And Glory (mv) is the ending theme of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.

Band-maid is amazing! This is one of the best rock bands in the world. They just released a new album this year. Some suggestions for band-maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Different, After Life or Warning!

I love the history of how Band-Maid got together. Miku (rhythm guitarist) used to work in a Maid Cafe. After a failed Idol career, she decided to fuse the Maid look with hard rock, so in 2013 she started BAND-MAID.
Miku found Kanami (lead guitarist) via UA-cam. Kanami had a channel where she wrote her own songs and played the guitar.
Kanami, in turn, knew Akane (drummer) from having her play the drums on some of her songs.
Akane then got Misa (bassist) on board, who she knew from Music school.
With this, they were 4. Miku was the lead singer, with Kanami on guitar, Akane on drums, and Misa on bass. They did one gig in 2013 as a 4 piece, but afterwords decided Miku didn't have the type of voice they wanted for a hard rock band, so they did auditions for a lead singer, which is how they picked up Saiki.
Bonus fact: They didn't tell Saiki about the Maid outfits, instead telling her just that they would be wearing "some cute clothes". Miku was afraid Saiki wouldn't accept to join if she knew they were going to dress up in Maid outfits. Saiki later confirmed in an interview that if they had told her beforehand about the Maid outfits, she probably wouldn't have joined lol. Good thing they kept it a secret, cause she has an amazing voice. Saiki found out about the Maid outfits literally when she arrived to perform at their first gig as a 5 piece.

You don't realize what you did! Once you enter the pigeon hole there's no exit.
They have +100 amazing songs so it's like watching an anime indeed, and they did the opening for the anime Log Horizon S3 that began January this year called Different. Also they are like anime characters, all have different personalities but get along together, you can see that on interviews.
They're not kawaii metal tho. Their concept is "yeah, we're all girls in maid outfits, but we will rock you, want it or not". They call it "the gap", a dissonance between what you see and what you hear. Freedom is one of their most uplifting songs but I asure you they can and do rock. It's maid or die 🤘🕊️
Akane (drums) and Kanami (lead guitar - happy girl walking around) are basically gods at those instruments. You could tie their hands behind their backs and and the drums and guitar would play themselves out of fear of disrespecting them.
Babymetal is a Japanese "idol group" - girls sing up front but "hidden" band is supporting them in the background. The intruments arent highlighted usually in idol groups....except the guys in the band were so good they become uber popular as well.
Band-Maid is a traditional rock group. Everyone masters an instrument or vocals, and they go at it.
Q: What can be better than watching Band-Maid?
A: Watching a beautiful young lady with a great smile fall down the Band-Maid rabbit hole.
One of my favorite lives is the recent live video for "No God." Another Japanese girl band is "LoveBites," Holy War is a great song from them.

hmm ... dunno if it's been requested already down there, but if you liked the outfit you might like the MV to "After Life" ( ua-cam.com/video/2MOvCkCqz_U/v-deo.html ), which (my interpretation) tells the story of 5 girls, one of which worked in a Maid Cafe, who wanted more from life. It kind of ends with the start of their career, with an outlook on their "current" state on TV. Sounds cryptic, but I'm sure you'll get it if you watch the MV :D

Miku "rhythm guitar, backing vocalist" worked in a traditional Japanese Maid cafe for a while before she decided to form the band.. So, this became their "Gap". Listen to “RINNE” by band maid. It’s them at their heaviest, fastest, and IMO best. The songs kills and shows that they can be a serious metal band if they wanted to be. That’s what this band is so good at. They always bring in different elements to their music and kill it every time. They legit do not have a bad song.

I highly recommend checking out anything by Nemophila, they always look like they're having so much fun making music, and they're incredibly talented. TRiDENT is another one that is really good, their bass player is incredible. I recommend checking out their song Continue.
