@@HugoBolzer , I did neglect to pull the string back after applying actually. next time. I'll keep an eye on mine then and apply it when it looks dull. Thanks for the advice bud.
Agreed on the first point: I've been shooting this thing with the 90lb pro arms and bodkin bolts, and the penetration is scary. On a crossbow target (a superdense foam slab), the bodkins go in up to the fletching, where I have trouble pushing them in by hand half that distance. This at 5-10m distance, which if we're talking home defence, is going to be 99% the case. It's not a replacement for a firearm, but not having access to firearms is not a "narrow set of circumstances" for the vast majority of people outside of the US. This might well be the next best thing; it is powerful and accurate enough to cause sufficient harm to an assailant to make him rethink his mistakes, or even mortally wound him. Not a toy.
Well, if things are going like they have in these recent years for crossbows, I believe we might see even more groundbreaking designs. Especially when the manufacturers see these kind of video's and built based on them.
Nice review but could you go into more detail of the bolt loading mechanics? How exactly is the bolt held in the magazine to keep it from falling onto the string? When you cock it is it hitting something to load the bolt or is it just held up by the string?
good break down. i was so looking forward to this crossbow, i ordered in july. i live in a major city and owning a firearm is not the easiest thing to do... legally. so as your said as a means of home defence i choose the stinger 2. (and it looked cool.) i got this today put it together with the 90 lbs limb on it, shot 2 bolts off. on the 3rd try, i noticed the string was loose, one of the end caps broke off at the tip and the rest of it was forced halfway down the length the left side of the limb. also, the locking mecimisiom does not latch around the pin anymore, so the butt stock falls downward if your hand is not on the grip. from what i can tell the pin and latch look fine, just off by a hair. had i had to rely on this in any situation, home invasion or zombie apocalypses, i'd be dead. of course i'll email them about it, i probably drew a short straw. it just sucks.
Get an adder instead. The 90lb limb set is too powerful for the build imo. I think it’s causing issues not just for you. The adder is significantly larger but has around twice the effective power. Alternatively you can wait for the EK Archery vlad to be released which is EK archery’s version of this product with a better trigger, i think a better build on the cocking lever, and can be torn down quickly simply using a few thumb screws and the collapsible stock.
I got the pistol version without a stock, and I need to see which of the several limbs I can reasonably use in that configuration. I really don't like the way they integrated the reload lever into the stock. They should've build something underneath that perhaps resembled a lever gun action (though it would have to be designed differently).
Informative and insightful video...thank you. To secure the front grip handle better with a lateral bolt through the picatinny rail, can you recommend a source to buy this bolt that will fit? Thanks again.
I like these 'OTraki Pod Grips Extender' - it's an airsoft foregrip which is a total nerd gadget as it pops out bipod legs with a satisfying 'chunk' sound at the click of a button. It's way beefier than the foregrip included with the bow, secure very well with no wobble and they're pretty cheap on Amazon.
I understand you are American and firearms are a normal part of society, but most countries in Europe (where I am from) prohibit firearms and so something like this Steambow Stinger II is absolutely perfect for us. I ordered mine yesterday and can't wait to try it out.
I got a compact pistol version of this and quite pleased, its even faster to cock than this one - albeit slightly less power, but still enough to punch through and penetrate a tincan stuffed with dense cardboard. Recently another company released a new competing tactical crossbow and it actually folds into a flat compact package that its possible to assemble/dissassemble the bow in a matter of seconds and with no tools needed. Would love to see a review of it, its called Vlad Tactical Crossbow by EK Archery.
@@voicevoice2053 If you do, get some carbon shaft arrows/bolts for it. The aluminum ones can easily bend after a few shots and become unusable. I've had a few unfortunate dry-fires with my upgraded AR-6 Stinger that also suffered the same issue. Nowadays though I'd recommend against the Vlad. I've seen it being really tough and awkward to cock, so its not that fun despite the launcher itself being sturdy and well built. If I'd get to buy a new one, I'd either go for a standard Adder with a 7 shot mag (plus some carbon shaft arrows) or the new upcoming Mey Interceptor at Gogun.
I’d really like a firearm a big one, unfortunately they’re illegal over here in the uk! Crossbows aren’t tho,I’m trying to get hold of either one of these or an adder

@@mrhanky7 yes, mine did lmao. But I think that was more to do with the string. It started to fray, badly, and I didn't replace it - but I must've got 2 to 3 hundred fires out of it by then.
I get maybe two shots off with the 90 lb limb before the limb caps literally explode and shatter into pieces. They have been replaced twice already. Thinking of getting a machinist friend to machine aluminum replicas of the limb caps.
@@mrhanky7 , Woah, that doesn't make sense to me. After the tips (actually just one tip went) and string went for my first 90lbs go, I removed the limb and replaced it with the standard, because the 90 was just overkill - the bolts would penetrate my targets right up to the vanes and ruin them. If I fired the bolts at something more solid than a target, the bolt tip would break off, or the whole thing would be bent. Good idea on the metal limb tips though.
@@CDbiggen I'm aiming to do longer distance shooting, but this is just frustrating. I think having them machined in metal would make them last much longer. I agree that the 90 lb limb for just shorter range is overkill.
Narrow set of circumstances? Like most of the planet where owning a firearm is illegal or very strictly controlled? This weapon is not produced for the USA alone, most of the planet can own it as their only legal home defence weapon. Also, never dry fire a bow, especially a crossbow, it's dangerous to the bow and the user. I think next time, do basic research on the subject, too much of this isn't good info.
Exactly, just got mine through here in the UK where of course firearms are illegal for anyone who doesn't want to jump through all the hoops. I think it's incredible - accurate, very powerful (with the pro limb), and well designed.
I can't believe that none of these comments mention you dry-firing the bow at 4.30. Never, ever, ever, ever do that. Best case you will damage the bow, worst you'll lose an eye.
Nice relaxed review!. I do not have the Stinger 2, I have an Alligator, you can get also a magazine on it (€ 169,-). It cocks very easy like the Stinger. There is also the Hori-zone Redback XR with magazine (€ 99,-), I also have that, but the cocking is heavy and when you shoot is heavy. I also do have the Cobra Adder R9 130 Lbs with magazine and Reddot (€ 330,-), that cocks very easy and when shooting it, only touching and your bolt goes. It is so unbelievable accurate, always a precise hit. The Cobra is a beast, very deadly, I assume it goes through a human at short range. But for defense inside smaller spaces I think the Stinger 2 is the best choice. Some tips! Practice with old clothes in a big bag, around 4 inches thick, then your feathers keeps sound. Use a laser, that is very accurate. When using the laser, you can keep you eyes on the target and shoot from the hip.
Hey, would you kindly give me some pros/cons for the steambow vs adder? Im saving up got those two but tempted to wait if out for joerg to add a magazine to his siege bow
@@nrose168 the Steambow is much smaller so easier to handle. The bolts are much cheaper. For small spaces very good. High quality bow. Up to 20 meters distance. But the Steambow is expensive. If you should buy an Alligator for 50 euro you can 3d print a magazine for it so that is a fraction of the price. A Hori-zone Redback with magazine for 5 bolts is 100 euro. The Cobra Adder R9 is a bit cheaper then the Steambow, has a reddot. The bow is high in quality. It is much stronger then the other bows, shoots up to 40 meters. You can ad an upgrade so it gets no jams and you can put in 7 bolts. It is big, feels good in handling. When you reload it feels light but is 130 lbs, the other bows 80 lbs. The bolts are expensive, but on Aliexpress you buy them for around 1 euro a piece. The Adder is realy deadly! The Steambow also but Adder has such high impact on targets. The small bows feel and look like toys, but they aren't toys. The cobra doesn't look and feel like a toy. My target is made of old clothes, so your bolts don't damage, works for all bows. Look at Smart Upgrades here at UA-cam. There is also a Cobra Siege 300 now with a smart upgrade to shoot with 8 short and long bolts. Shoot precise at a max of 70 meters. 😱 But very big.

Very well explained after this video I'm deff getting this crossbow. In Times like this, I better repair somehow. Everyone should get one 2024 I'm feeling worldwide heat. I hope I'm totally wrong.
Carbon, Carbon, Carbon. That is the only material suitable for pistol crossbow bolts. Forget alluminium bolts. They are for very low power crossbows and soft foam targets only. Carbon bolts are stronger, straighter, and shoot straighter than alluminium. Carbon bolts fitted with Medieval style "war heads" such as Joerg Spraves "Saxon War Bolts" will greatly improve the hitting power and enjoyability of any pistol crossbow. Just make sure whatver size you buy fits your particular bow. Hope that helps.
traditional bow is not discussed thoroughly enough in this “non gun defense/hunting” scenario. a traditional bow can achieve much higher energy than this kind of compact crossbow, without being too bulky and complex as the modern crossbow and recurve bow. also the reloading speed can be pretty fast, at least faster than normal crossbow or modern recurve bow with some training, as well as the accuracy.
The Steambow line of crossbows & others like the FENRIS & WhipShot with magazine style loading. These are very popular in Europe / UK where firearms are very hard to get legally, but very easy to get illegally lol. So homeowners are looking for better options, even though legally we have no right to defend ourselves if that means harming another human.. laws are ridiculous..
1st tip disconnect the safety after your practice run of couple 100 shots the safety stops working and becomes harder to deactivate. So just take it off altogether and be careful with yor stinger because now it's a load and no safety. Then you can load fire load fire otherwise. It would be a load and struggle to Deactivate the safety then fire.
Check Joerg Sparve Slingshot channel. He is the real inventor of many many new designs like stinger 2 and doesn't make patents cuz he believes that all should be available to the public so all his work is found in the public domain. :)
Total crap for home defence . Try to fire a second bolt if you have 2 intruders. You are toast. Nothing beats a 9 mm with 15 rounds in it. You don’t have to be a champion…..just fire away. I saw this clip of guy in Texas with guys trying to break into his home kicking the door, knowing he was inside but oblivious to the fact he had a gun. He fired 13 rounds through the door in a nanosecond. The dudes weee unarmed but fled like the devil was after them and were arrested days later. One would have looked pretty stupid with a crossbow. Nifty little thing however, but recreational or hunting ( forbidden here in Europe…..but lots of farmers hunt hogs with it )
Don't be silly that thing has 20 joules max, only good for small game hunting. Don't use it for self defense against humans, you need 70 joules for that and for medium game hunting.
It seemed that those bolts penetrated into the wood quite well from some distance. I think it might be sufficient if one receives such projectile in between one's ribs for example and then there might be another coming so...most certainly sufficient.
get a nice sharp spear and practice..you save a lot of money. you are a dead meat if the intruder has a gun and is pissed off with your toy arrows. this is a rip off for 300+ euros. they try the smart sale to present it like a defense weapon. Get a hunting license and a 500 euro shotgun.
The original Stinger used the EK Archery Cobra as a base, but this second version does not. It's designed entirely by Steambow and is their own thing entirely. I agree it is a bit overpriced for what you get, but it's still great. I love these things. If you want something more affordable then 3D printing is great to look into.
@@lornelorne5727 Agreed. It's expensive but if your choice is having it or giving a crap about the price because it's not the auto-crossbow from Hawk the Slayer, your choice is this because you can't buy the Elf crossbow. Also, RIP.
This thing is like $350 bucks if you want a toy just go buy a little alligator or bear XL for like $60 you can also buy an alligator or bear XL and then get the magazine for like $70 so the whole setup would be half the price of this stinger. I have a bear XL with AR-7 magazine, a flashlight and a red dot with a laser and a quiver. Great little setup fun to shoot might save your life

Carbon bolts fitted with Medieval style "war heads" such as Joerg Spraves "Saxon War Bolts" will greatly improve the hitting power and enjoyability of any pistol crossbow. Just make sure whatver size you buy fits your particular bow.
Hope that helps.
How about titanium?
Супер!👍
Can't have a firearm isn't THAT narrow a selection, worldwide.
Yup, this is considered my firearm
traditional bow is not discussed thoroughly enough in this “non gun defense/hunting” scenario.
a traditional bow can achieve much higher energy than this kind of compact crossbow, without being too bulky and complex as the modern crossbow and recurve bow. also the reloading speed can be pretty fast, at least faster than normal crossbow or modern recurve bow with some training, as well as the accuracy.
Where's the safety? There's no safety on mine lol
never dry fire
The first thing an American thinks of with crossbows is shooting other people. 😂
How about something you neglected to mention, it’s quiet, maybe you don’t want the whole world to know when you fire your weapon
I searched kia stinger 2.0, then found this video.😀😀😀😀
Nifty little thing however, but recreational or hunting ( forbidden here in Europe…..but lots of farmers hunt hogs with it )
Dude this is not a toy far from it !
Dry fires crossbow... cringe.
Winch, ouch
get a nice sharp spear and practice..you save a lot of money. you are a dead meat if the intruder has a gun and is pissed off with your toy arrows. this is a rip off for 300+ euros.
they try the smart sale to present it like a defense weapon. Get a hunting license and a 500 euro shotgun.
Bro, it´s just a $35 USD mini `Cobra´ crossbow with a slightly stronger or weaker bow and a magazine
Also, RIP.
@@AntonGully Great film Hawk the Slayer. That's why I am drawn to this crossbow💪
