    Absolutely a legend! I got in my truck last week and I got a pop up on my tube videos and it was Paul saying he was dead! I sat in my truck and weeped and I’m not some whimp! I spent years fighting fires in the Bronx lived through the attacks of 911 and buried lots of my brothers, buried my young wife right before her 51st birthday and almost lost my baby girl twice and on and on life has been a battle and that’s not even considering my 2 battles with 911 cancers 4 major spinal operations and many more surgeries. Something just broke that afternoon and I never even met this fine gentleman. Maybe it’s because over all these years of lose and sadness ,Paul’s shows helped me forget about all the things in this world and now he is gone as well. Thank you brother for all the years of helping us hurting guys forget our pain even if it was just for a little while. Blessings to your family and all who love you! I pray you are walking with JESUS talking about all the guns and ammo you would have liked to create. GODS SPEED BROTHER!!!

    Paul really exposes how important the correct ammo is when combined with the gun if you require accuracy, yes Paul it's always Buyer Beware. It's a pleasure to see how good his shot groupings are and Meat Target destruction. It's very generous of Paul to make this video considering the layers of difficulty that's only adding more difficulty in shooting. About the best thing to say about the Taurus Judge is that it made it so many of the major ammo manufacturers decided to produce self-defense offerings in 45 Colt.

      The downside to Judge and Governor, is S&W and others made a compromise revolver instead of a decent 5-shot defensive revolver chambered exclusively for 45 Colt, able to handle modern pressures, so everyone doesn't go chasing after .44 magnum.

    Who would carry a gun chambered in .45 Colt for self-defense? Well, I do. I have an N-frame S&W model 25-5 in .45 Colt, modified by Jovino Gunworks, Inc. (upstate NY) who cut the barrel to 3.5 inches and cut the square butt and re-welded it to a round butt K-frame configuration. Pachmayr grips and an El Paso Saddlery holster makes it my favorite open-carry going-to-town gun here in NW Montana. Bought it in 1986 in El Paso, Texas, when I was on the S.O. there, it has the slickest action I have ever touched.
    Now I know what my new carry ammo will be! Thanks, Paul.

    As always, love your vids Paul. I used a pair of Vaqueros for cowboy action shooting and I can say that you can adjust the windage by turning the barrel left or right a smidge to correct. You do this by removing the cylinder and ejector shroud, clamping the barrel securely in a vice (the hardest part - some rosin and hardwood vice blocks helped me) - then you use a piece of hardwood through the cylinder frame and tweek which ever way you need - it takes very little rotation to make the front sight move enough to matter. - Paul, you probably know this but I thought I'd post for others. Hope you heal up quick!

    Well the origin of the unofficial "long colt" designation is from the military ball ammo (m1877 iirc)that was released after the supply issues where schofields couldn't shoot.45 colt ammo because it was too long and SAAs could only load every other round if they received Schofield ammo because the rim was too big.
    The new military ball ammo to fix the problem had the Schofield length with the colt rim size and could be loaded in either gun and is what people unofficially called.45 short colt because it had the.45 colt rim size in a shorter length.

    • @beargillium2369
      @beargillium2369 Місяць тому

      I thought it was just Schofield that was colloquially known as "short colt" because it fit in the SAAs, and the "long" was added to 45 colt "long" so soldiers didn't try to load it in their Schofield revolvers and cause major issues like damaged hands

A bigger hole lets more blood come out and a hole all the way through is two holes and that lets lots more blood come out. Win, win. Putting those holes where they do the most good is the trick. Thanks Paul as this is food for thought. It also sends me back down that rabbit hole of all the different types of .45 Caliber rounds, Like the .45 Short Colt which I think may also be called the .45 Colt Government, vs the .45 Long colt, .45 Schofield and the much older .45 Colt (11.43x33mmR) which was actually a black powder round for use with the 1872 SSA. And for the most part you are forgetting one type of person that carry's a .45 Revolver, and that would be those like me who are former Pinkerton agents and a few military personal that had a .45 SSA Colt. Oh and definitely thanks to the guys helping Paul right now, as you guys are great.

    I appreciate Paul's politness in not mentioning the other crowd of 45c users, Judge owners, as we are aware of his dislike for the 45c/410 guns and didnt want to say anything rude. Which saddens me as an owner and actual concealed carry user of a Judge. But it's very helpful information, and supports my confirmation on my ammo choices for when I do load 45c when I carry, which I do swap out loads frequently, because I carry what I think I'll need more for my travels. Thank you again for another great video!

    The right ammo in the right gun for the right barrel. Great breakdown.

  • @googlesucks509
    @googlesucks509 10 місяців тому +8

    In reality that revolver had closer to one full inch longer barrel than the 1911. A full 5.5 inches of travel since the cartridge resides in the cylinder. The 1911’s 5 inch barrel includes the chamber that the cartridge sits in, so it has closer to 4.5 inches of travel. So, using a Ruger with a 4.6 inch barrel would have been a closer comparison. But then again the revolver loses a little bit of velocity through cylinder gap, so who knows? Great vid Paul.

    • @sinisterthoughts2896
      @sinisterthoughts2896 5 місяців тому

      yeah, close enough I suppose. apples to oranges with cylinder gap. more of a point of reference than a direct comparison.

    • @jamesreid3336
      @jamesreid3336 Місяць тому

      cylinder gap plus the half inch or more travel in the cylinder isn't rifled. So I'd say close enough. Could say the Redhawk in 45 colt / 45 acp firing both would be a better comparison but then again that portion on unrifled travel would be different for the 2 bullets

      Ruger occasionally makes a run of gp100s in 45 colt instead of the usual 357. I'd rather just move up to something in 454 Casull and be able to shoot both 45 colt & 454 but someone must want the gp100 in 45 colt. Ruger also makes it's single action Blackhawks in 45 colt and they can handle considerably hotter ammo than the colts & clones can.

    • @66smithra
      @66smithra 10 місяців тому +2

      @@2bitmarketanarchist337 if you reload, the casull is not really needed. You can make your own 45 Colt loads that provide a decent upgrade over the 44 magnum.

      Charter arms bulldogs are offered in 45 colt, Rossi and Taurus both had normal revolvers in 45 colt comparable in size to a S&W L frame, smith still has m25s (my personal favorite revolver), and Ruger has the Redhawk but that’s generally too big for everyday carry. There are lots of good guns in 45 colt, most are also available in 45 acp. You might take that to mean just get the 45 acp version, but really it means you can load tier 2 45 colt (23 kpsi) which is right on the heels of 44 mag ballistics.

    I like the .45 Colt. I have two revolvers in that cartridge, both S&W Model 25-5. One with 4" barrel and 1 with 8-3/8" barrel. You aren't limited to SA revolvers.
    In the past I did carry the 4" barrel occasionally for concealed carry. Where I live now, though, the weather is too warm year 'round to conceal an N-Frame S&W.
    But it is certainly an adequate self defense cartridge and probably better than some others...and quite manageable. If you open carry or can wear enough clothes to cover it, it's a good choice.
