    I just bought the Ranger, and I'm going slowly. Alt 84 years-old, one does not rush with new technology. It would be helpful if you did a tutorial which walked me through the features a few at a time, and demonstrated those with a short flight, then add a few more features, etc. I appreciate you help in teaching me how to handle my new drone.

      Thanks for watching and the kind words! Indeed, nothing is super high end but nothing is super low end either. It flies good, decent specs, controllable, all the basic needs like SD card, GPS, brushless motors, stabilized video, and the bonus of obstacle avoidance... for the price it's a good value. They have come a long way for sure! 👍

    I unfortunately had to file a warranty claim on my second ranger i got. The gimbal got very unstable and if i tried to tilt the camera down, the video feed would go blurry and would go wonky. Exo customer service is top notch. They responded immediately to resolve my issue, i sent them a video showing them the problem and they recommended me to file a claim. I sent it out so hopefully i get a replacement drone within the next couple weeks. I really enjoy the exo ranger. Great flyer. I did do a distance test once on it to see if the half mile range was accurate, and i think the farthest i got was 2605 feet before i lost connection with the controller, and i still had 1 bar connection on the wireless on my phone, so I never lost video feed. The drone came right back to the launch location but was about 15 to 20 feet away from it so not bad. Going out that far, I can still see the drone but gotta be really watching it. Thats right on the edge of visual line of sight. I never did take the drone passed 1800 feet after that though.
    Did you ever have an issue with the props? I flew my drone on a windy day once "15 to 20 mph" and after i got done flying it, i noticed a small crack on the front right prop. Do you have any idea what could have caused the crack? I was thinking maybe it was because of the wind and that prop may have had a weak spot perhaps? It would suck if it would have shattered while flying

    Keith - Great Review - I grabbed one of these as my first "Real" Drone after your review and find it excellent for the price. I use it in Real Estate to do top down videos for clients and found it to be perfect. The obstacle avoidance is literally the best feature as its saved me from hitting a few tall trees and even a chimney or two! The only thing id say is the range on mine seems a tad shorter then you got, in some neighborhoods it tops out at about 1/4 mile or so.. Overall thanks again and keep up the great reviews!

    • @AlienDrones
      @AlienDrones  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback! Super glad to hear it is working out for you. It did seem to be a decent flyer for me. One thing I noted with range is for me it is dependent on a cople of things, 1) what is in the area, buildings, EMF, even the type of rocks in the ground make a difference. 2) the device used, and I also take my cover off my phone and that seems to help sometimes too... Did you have any jitter in the image or with warmer weather is is reduced or gone? I won't be able to test that for a while... 😎 Appreciate you watching and the kind words!

    WOW, great demonstration in those weather conditions! As usual, a practical and succinct flight demonstration. You bring out the key features of the model. I marvel at your ability to have a solid monologue on using the drone - good scriptwriter or great speaker? At least no one is cutting the grass!
    In regard to my personal thoughts:
    1. Yes, nice demonstration of actual temperature - degrees F I assume?
    2. Measurement of actual wind speed would be nice. Although I suspect there were gusts of wind, there are simple tools to measure wind speed range at ground level.
    3. Although, it may be a NoNo in the industry, it may be useful to discuss where this model fits in the recent/future FAA rules on weight and remote ID vs airspace.
    In any case, great presentation, makes me want to sell my Spark and Tello!

    Nice review, thank you for standing out in the cold, I won't do it. Last time I flew in the cold it was 37F doing a 15 minute flight. My fingers were so cold they hurt. I went back to the car and cranked the heater. Next two flights I used gloves. Lately I've been sticking to flying a little fpv quad, sometimes a simulator in the house where it's 69F or flying when sitting in my vehicle, window down with the heat blasting (one direction of view to maintain vlos).
    I'm thinking of rigging some gloves with a pocket for those chemical packs that warm up or maybe fly from the back of my 4 Runner with the hatch open and heat blasting.
    Speaking of obstacle avoidance, since the last DJI Air 2S update (firmware and Fly app) I noticed that the quad would intermittently slow down when there was nothing to avoid when in the "brake" setting. I haven't used the "avoid" setting since it slowed my quad when landing about 6 months ago. I shut OA off.
    Have a nice Christmas!!

    • @AlienDrones
      @AlienDrones  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching and the comments! indeed, obstacle avoidance has it's place and for the right location and the right pilot it is a great feature, especially when learning. That being said, crashing is one of the best learning experiences there is. Not fun, but powerful. Wait, 37 degrees is too cold? You must be pretty warm blooded or in a warm area! 🌞 At 10 degrees my fingers didn't hurt at all, they were numb, so I couldn't feel them at all so it was all good. Now when they thawed out, owwwwww! 💪 Good Flying!

    • @m118lr
      @m118lr 2 роки тому

      ..this speaks to Keith’s dedication! Edited to add: SO far, my ‘A2S’ is responding well with its OA but I’m only utilizing the “brake” method..haven’t tried (and won’t) the ‘bypass’ due to lack of SIDE sensors. I did NOT update the LAST firmware prompting, so still running the ‘1.5.0’ version. I’ve heard several Y/t’ers saying “IF it ain’t broke..don’t fix it”. You COULD BE inviting (more) trouble. They’ve said that even though it might “fix/add” a couple new things, it might also add new ‘bugs’ that weren’t there before!..(?)

    you need to calibrate it every time? cold looks like paradise. truckee here we got 8' of snow at 6300'. im not sure how i would feel about a motorized spinning obstacle avoidance system because the motor could die or in the case of a crash it seems likely that it would break. as for the laser i assume you are talking about lidar using an IR laser or IR led (noticed the obstacle sensor scanning back and forth) i thought you meant it had an actual laser for X reason. i mounted an spyder 3 arctic laser onto my MA2, went balloon popping and wood burning with it just as a proof of concept that Skynet and the Aerial HK's are coming lol.

    • @AlienDrones
      @AlienDrones  2 роки тому +1

      Indeed have to calibrate it every flight. Not sure how robust the motor is for the obstacle avoidance will be, to be honest it flips around really fast, seems like it's only a matter of time before there is a stripped spot on a plastic gear somewhere, but that's only a guess. I would have built in a little acceleration and deceleration myself, but it does work really good. For a beginner or for the rogue pilot that is out of VLOS, might be a good addition I think. Been to Truckee many times but never in the height of the snow season, I think it would be great to see once, for a brief time, then lift me out with a helicopter and drop me on a warm beach somewhere... 😎

    • @m118lr
      @m118lr 2 роки тому

      “SpYder 3 Arctic Laser” huh? Eeehh..sounds like what “they’d” be worried about when ‘banning’ the sale (like the .gov ALWAYS DOES) of CERTAIN lasers..

      @@aldon78 Not sure of your question. The DJI geofence has has nothing to do with registration, it is a location blocked for flights by DJI. On the other hand, the weight is the main reason for registration (among other things) and if you register, you also need remote ID installed. I think you can get geofence zones unlocked per flight, but it needs to be submitted and approved by DJI before they will temporarily unlock a zone.

      @@aldon78 The registration and remote ID requirements are the same for any manufacturer. If it's above 249g you need to register and it needs remote ID. As far as Geofencing, DJI is one of the few who does that. DJI does produce some decent products but honestly that geofencing can be a real pain in the ass. If you haven't already, I would suggest you take the FAA TRUST test www.scouting.org/the-recreational-uas-safety-test/ before you buy, might answer some questions. It's free, easy and required before you can fly anyway and will give you some basic rules as well in case you're uncertain what they are. If you have questions let me know and I'll try to clarify. It has to have the metal nut as you do have to crank it tight to keep it from flopping around, the ones with the plastic nut (99% of them) will snap once you tighten it up, and the plastic frame ones are gross, I had one of those floppy things for about 5 minutes before I sent it back... If the one I have ever breaks, _and_ I fall into a pot of money, I'd like to try one of these: mavmount.com/ if they are large enough for my tablets. Not as compact though...

    Awesome video!!! I noticed it looks like you were using a tablet when flying the x7 plus ranger. I have a couple questions was it a tablet and what brand or model, does it have cellular? I know tablets have to have GPS to fly correct. My other question was should I get a tablet with cellular or it' is not necessary as long as it has GPS. I have so many apps on my phone running, that it's going to be impossible to fly with my cell phone. I do have the exact drone nude or demonstrating. Thank you in advance I appreciate any advice you can give me.

    • @AlienDrones
      @AlienDrones  Рік тому +1

      Hello! A bit of clarification, no cellular or GPS is required for the drone to fly correctly. I almost always turn the device in "airplane mode", then if needed I'll turn on just the WiFi if it is a controller that connects using WiFi (many drones do not need this). Having many apps and communication running on the device will cause problems, both with communication and control, and you risk crashing the app or even the drone because of this. Best case you'll get app crashes or drone disconnects in flight, which is not fun. You only need GPS if you're going to need the map for some reason, and even in that case you can preload maps (so I'm told) so you don't need GPS on the device either, the drone has it's own GPS to use... I use a Samsung Tab S8, and others, don't need that much of a tablet, I just try and make sure it is bright! Hope this helps!

      Indeed it's a cold one... With the follow me and orbit I had too much stuff around me. As you start to move the drone tilts and points down a bit and was stopping at everything. Probably will do some flights while performing these functions with the OA on to see what it does, but I was on the last battery and my cold tolerance was diminished so didn't want to take the chance to take extra time that could ruin the function tests... I am looking to purchase a new drone after having a Hubsan S107. One of the features I really want in my next drone is a stable video image. In this video for the Expo X7 Plus, the video quality seems kind of shaky which you attributed to the 10F. outdoor temp., which I can understand being a potential problem. My questions is, have you flown the Exo X7 Ranger again and was the video quality better with a better outdoor temperature? I am considering the Exo X7 Ranger or the Holystone HS720G. I am leaning towards the Exo X7 Ranger because the the collision avoidance, but the slightly shaky video may be a deal breaker for me. The HS720G video seemed to be very stable at a very similar price point. What are your thoughts on these two machines?

    • @AlienDrones
      @AlienDrones  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the question! The video quality did improve with warmer weather but did not clear up completely. As I showed in the video though it is possible to apply some stabilization in post and clear it up pretty well. I had a fair range with the X7 and when it disconnected, once I moved a little closer it reconnected and I continued on. It was a really decent flyer. The HS720 was much more stable video wise and did fly decent for me but was a bit "spongy" in how it controlled. It did disconnect while I was in VLOS and would not reconnect which was a real bummer, I had to bring it all the way back without video, land and power cycle before it would reconnect again. Though I didn't have an issue, I have heard other viewers have some issues with the toilet bowling, which is not fun. Regardless, I would suggest to try and purchase either of these on Amazon using prime so you can return them and get your money back if it doesn't perform properly for you... Hope this helps!

    Have you tried setting the Max Altitude and Max Flight Distance? I get an error message saying "Note: Only available in GPS Mode." The drone powers on in GPS Mode and I didn't turn it off. Trying to communicate with EXO via their Text System is extremely inefficient. You are placed at the end of the line after every text, I spent nearly an hour trying to get an intelligent answer. Still waiting. I was told to fill out a Warranty Claim Form, not addressed yet. I thought that it may be a firmware issue but I am getting nowhere with the Service Team. I like the way the drone handles but I'd like to be able to set my parameters and for some reason this one will not save and Service leaves a lot to be desired.

      Yes, I have adjusted all of these. If I remember right, first had to take it out of beginner mode then just slid the slider. for all of them I do know you have to be connected to the drone with the WiFi for it to save, gives some odd prompt when it's saving, but it did save. If you're not connected properly then it bags out. I can try and fire it up soon and try it and verify the sequence . @AlienDrones  2 роки тому

      That doesn't sound normal to me, but maybe I'm misunderstanding because I don't know how anything including the modes would work right if it is disconnected. One thing I found regarding the connection is to make sure *all* other wireless connections on the device are set to "auto connect" _disabled_ , except the one to the drone, set that to "auto connect" _enabled_ . Sometimes it takes a few times to stick, and make sure if it prompts with the "use cellular network" or "use connection anyway" (no internet is a fault accordingly to the phone) you continue to use the connection.

Took some time to get a response, I think around a week, then they did replace it. Took a while, but that is the state of things I'm afraid, no matter what product it is. Sad, but typical.

      Okay, just took it outside and did a hover. I forgot how stable this thing is, really nice actually. Too bad it was getting dark out or I would have taken it for more of a fly for sure. I looked back through this thread and I'm now confused. First, I was mistaken, there is no height max or distance max setting that I can find either on the app or in the instructions. I was thinking about the Cinemaster 2, which I double checked and it does have this setting, not the X7. That's a problem with flying so many drones, I lose some of the details, apologies. So that being said, what are you pressing that gives you a prompt that says something about GPS Mode Only? I only get that when I try to do some of the follow modes.

      Depends on the needs of the pilot as the UAVs have a couple of different things so the answer is different for everyone... Obstacle avoidance is awesome if you need or want it, that points to the X7 hands down. If video quality is the most important, then it goes to the Cinemaster 2 for sure with 4k video. If your budget is very limited, then it goes back to the X7. If the look of the drone is important (showing it off in the park) then the X7 Ranger plus with the USA package rocks, I got a lot of oohs and aahs when I brought it out at Christmas... Hey. I am pretty new to using drones. Last time i used one which could be controlled with phone. It was really cheap and the camera was really laggy when flying so it was hard to look just in camera and fly. Are the camera on this drone stable and not laggy?

      Not laggy, but this drone does have some small jitter in the video...

    New subscriber here I just ordered the Exo x7 Ranger pro the red color just like in this video I am new to the drone world other than getting the Ascend ASC-2500 (Tractor Supply Drone) for a Christmas gift 2021 took it out and flew it 3 times then purchased the Exo x7 Ranger. I opted not to get the obstacle avoidance system, but I think I can get it at a later date if I choose. I am still waiting on the Exo to ship however I am hoping that I have made a good choice?

      For the price it is a dandy little flier for sure! It gets a lot of second looks as it really looks sharp up close. You'll really notice the quality upgrade compared to the ASC-2500. Just a couple years ago you could not touch a drone of this quality with GPS, 3 axis gimbal, SD card on board, brushless motors, etc. for $275. Hope you picked up an extra battery, the time goes by fast when you're flying! The biggest mistake I see newer pilots make is flying too close to things and once you get rattled mistakes are made and crashes follow. Once it is broken is is too late and you'll be pretty sad, especially since it's soo stylish! Don't forget to take the gimbal lock off before you power it up or you could cause damage to the gimbal. Sometimes you get so excited you forget that (not that I ever did that :), just take a little time to get to know it and the app first, register it, get certified ua-cam.com/video/82r7oIyEfSI/v-deo.html and keep it in an open area while you get the hang of it and you'll enjoy it! Keep me up to date on how it goes for you, if you have questions shoot them my way, happy to help if I can. Don't make me say "I told you so" *after* you crash into that tree, or fence, or house!! 😎 Have fun and Good Flying! PS. Thanks for the sub!

      Keith, did you also get the information on the Alien Drones Tie-Dye t-shirt?

      @@dennisbrooks240 Didn't see it before, just went and looked, notifications don't happen probably 50% of the time. That doesn't sound good, I'd tell them to send you a different one. I ordered a black, orange and green tie dye ones (haven't worn them yet) but they looked good to me, though I shrunk the logo to a little smaller one (I just like that better on camera). Isn't any reason black shouldn't be black for sure, sounds like it was out of ink when they made it. I would just contact them and tell them to try again, a very large company should be able to make it right. Thanks for letting me know though, I'll double check mine again with a keener eye... 👍

      @@AlienDrones Not sure what happened, but you can see green color changes through the black and no color at all in the eyes, other than the shirt. I will contact them via email later today.
      This year seems pretty much like the last, LOL!

      Alien Drones Thank you! I sent an email they should see Monday. I sent a photo that clearly showed you could see the dark and light green patterns through the black. The advertised emblem has the head the width of the collar, about a third the width of the shirt. The one I received is smaller than the collar and about a fourth the width of the shirt. Looks like a faded out shirt after a hundred or so washings, well, maybe 20 or more. Certainly not a heavy weight t-shirt. I will let you know when they respond.
