Well this is certainly a nice surprise to wake up to, I've been patiently waiting for your review! :)
I was hoping you’d have a 4060 version, great review though!
餃子Asus.
I miss the old design langauge which was more industrial. I dont think I am going to bite it. Also, you loose on the upgradability too. And come on, what is with the led dash. Who the h ell thought of the mac-ish design. If they wanted a mac, most probably they bought one for the same price.
Is it their shipping is available in asia?
By the way, something I noticed with the 2023 G14 is that, for some reason, the battery life increased significantly recently.
I guess ASUS did something with these products in the software department that helps battery life.
that's nice to hear!
Ghelper still makes it a beast, same as 2022 model and basically everything else.
they just trashed performance 💀
@@tomoMik_ my fps has been higher and with less stuttering..
The newer AMD chipset drivers fixed sleep issues that a lot of G14s were having, I wonder if it is related.
I just took note of the problems he mentioned without mentioning any positives so you can easily identify dealbreakers.
1. Some screen wobble
2. No more 180 degrees, 135 only hinge
3. Keycap lighting isn't perfect
4. Trackpad topside click pressure high
5. No fingerprint scanner on power button
6. Only 1 c port has USB 4.0 and charge support
7. Two screws covered by rubber bits so accessibility isn't as easy
8. RAM upgradability missing
9. Rear screen lift mechanism missing this year (might reduce airflow but temp check shows all good)
10. 8945HS CPU only has better NPU for AI compared to last year CPU
11. Minimal perf. hit on CPU compared to other ryzen laptops in exchange for higher portability
12. Minimal reflection even on glossy screen
13. OLED Burn in
14. 4070 gets beaten by 4060 laptops marginally due TGP - so the price of the 4070 might not be justified
15. No BIOS customization comparatively
16. Linux test gave speakers a hard time and some keyboard functions didn't work
17. Higher price compared to last year by a few hundred dollars
Personally I think if you value the improved screen, speakers, weight, extra ram, etc, the price increase is more than justified and the premium is worth it.
1. True, I don't like this. The old model didn't have any. At this price it shouldn't exist.
2. I think this was just a side effect of the ergo-lift hinge. I don't think anyone actually cares about being able to do that.
3. Par for course, all previous G14 models are like this, although I wish the would fix it!
4. Par for course, although a haptic touchpad would have been nice.
5. Par for course. Windows Hello is just better but it struggles in dark light.
6. Par for course.
7. Par for course. Old models had three rubber nibs covering three screws. Not like youre getting in their daily anyway.
8. A downside, but 32GB should be all 99% of people need. Someone needing more than 32GB of ram probably isn't shopping for a 14" laptop and wants the most performance anyway.
12. Minimal means not much so this is a good thing. Glossy on OLED is superior.
13. Par for course. All OLED screens have the potential for burn-in, but I think that fear is overblown.
14. Not always. It's disappointed to see it getting beat at all, but in some tests it's definitely slightly ahead.
17. I could see this as being a downside if the old models no longer existed, but they still do. The higher price is justified given the quality of life upgrades.
All that said, the 4060 version for $1050 from Best Buy is the one 99% of people should buy. Add a 2TB hard drive for $100 and there is no better value for your money out there.
@@rickystafford7433 yep, its insane to see the video playback test almost reaching mbp levels without even ghelper. Also its thinner, looks more subtle, feels more premium with the aluminum cnc, better thermals, better keyboard, smaller brick etc..
For people like me who want a professional use/ light gaming notebook at a cheaper price than razer and apple, this is essentially perfect.
@@rickystafford7433i have the old model g14 with the 3060. Bought it on sale from Best Buy during covid lockdown - it felt like I was stealing something, had to buy it via a curbside, and this dude in a Bane looking mask walks up and hands it to me through the window 😆
Anyway, my kid now has that one, but it’s been a total trooper. Plays everything smoothly in 1080, never has had an issue, survives her abuse of it.
Definitely a solid product.
For #17 Cost is way higher for a 32 gb option compared to the ram slot from last year. I got a 2023 for $1200 vs the 32 gb version at $2200. I did not upgrade at that cost, but for high drive and ram it would be under $200.
TY. Numbers 8 and 17 are the main deal breaks for me.
That screen wobble though; noticed it every time Jarrod touched the desk or laptop.
Yep this alone keeps me away!
Yeah. Much worse than last year.
please add fortnite back to your benchmarks 🙏 @@JarrodsTech
I appreciate so much that you include brief Linux compatibility tests!
Magnificent review Jarrod sir. im glad that you released your review, at first i was kinda worried and actually couldn't believe those amazing temps for that slim design until you pointed the tdp. I think this laptop will be appealing for lots of ppl. i actually dont mind or feel any difference when i carry a bit ticker laptop. kinda feel like the g15 had the perfect thick to not slide from the hand by accident but that's a one in a 100 possibility, and just personal prefference. If i only had this laptop as a choice i have to say. its a fantastic choice. the tradeoff of less cpu power for more battery/betterthermals makes it good enough for me (i would still preffer the 2023 but man this one is prtty). because i know there are many thinner laptops out there also i dont like them that much for the thermals but if someone loves thin designs without wanting constantly 105 spikes and 89-95 avg temps.THIS is the laptop. i would gather more info from user experiences but atm and with this review, this laptop looks and sounds promising. I hope that the g16 and its vapour chamber does the trick, many thin laptops with nice gpus have bad thermals nowdays and some others have ultra spikes of 105 degrees but the laptop ultraUnderclocks so freaking hard to aggresively drop the temps to 30-40 not just to prevent damage but also to lower the Avg temps and make it look better than they actually are. cpus at 10w are actually performing really good now, glad to see that asus is not hiding anything and actually showing why they have those amazing temps and really nice performance and amazing battery AND Godlike speakers/Screen.
Looking forward to the G16 review. It has a higher TGP

that looks really nice but my 2020 base model still going strong
same, not base model but the one with the 2060. had some issues with the screen but that was my own fault not the laptops. (packed my backpack too tightly during a trip) still working great for me otherwise though!
@@EverythingWentSidewaysfor real, have the exact same one but I eventually put a 4tb nvme and 40gigs of ram. Been using it as a desktop replacement for 3 years now. Was thinking of finally upgrading but non upgradable ram is a dealbreaker for me.
@@charliekempf what's the specs of yours?
@@ilhamrians my original model was 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, RTX 2060, and a Ryzen 9 4900hs. Model number ga401-iv
@@charliekempf I plan on doing the same upgrades to mine except 2TB instead of 4TB. How did you transfer the data from your old SSD? I plan on using an SSD enclosure.
The 2023 base model in the US would usually go on a sale for $500 less than MSRP. It was 16gb RAM but wasn’t a problem since you could always upgrade it for just $40 more. Not with this you can’t.
You’re also forced to buy the more expensive 4070 version if you want to get 32gb RAM.
@jivewig I'd just get the Blade 14 at that price, as it has two RAM slots and a higher GPU power limit, even considering the voltage limit.
@@cameronbosch1213 Wait is the Blade 14 selling for $1100? But it doesn’t have the MacBook like speakers probably.
@@jivewigNo, but the 2024 Zephyrus G14 2024 model isn't much cheaper than a 2023/2024 Razer Blade and is less powerful with less upgradability. The Blade 14 is just a better laptop imo.
@@cameronbosch1213it indeed is, but then how is it different from the 2023 G14. See all I wanted over the previous model was OLED, better speakers and better build quality, but Asus sacrificed a lot for the thin design.
I got the 2022 model for $1000. The 2023 4060 version was going on sale for $1050. The Blade 14 doesn’t get anywhere near as much discount.
I’ve been watching your video religiously for the last few months because it’s been 10 plus years since I’ve bought a new laptop. I tried out so many laptops but in the end, I just ended up with a gaming PC because let’s be for real, my old laptop just sat on my desk for its entirety of its lifetime lol
Amazing video as usual, and I really I appreciate that you included the 2021 G14 info as well, been on the fence on upgrading from my 2021 to 2023 g14 (I don't think I need a 4070 nor is it worth it and the 2024 460 variant isn't worth the extra money when the 2023 one constantly goes on sale and is basically the same spec) but honestly I think I'll stick with my 2021, it still holds up pretty well and meets all my game and work needs on the go as well as I'm still getting 8+ hours of battery life 2yrs in, maybe in another year or so I'll shoot for the 2023 version
15:21 Hello to you too!
Hey!
@@JarrodsTechg16 review? What about Predator Helios 16 2024?
@@rajyavardhansingh4491it's hard for him to get a hands on acer products unfortunately
Well look at that, I guess I could have gotten early access if I was a channel member
Hey Jarrod, always good to see your reviews as they are so in depth and helpful. Thanks to your testing methodology, I see from one video more than I can find out in a week.
I got my one of these a week or two ago and was curious to see that UK models only have white backlight but are £2400. But all US models (I think) have 1 zone rgb and are considerably less.
Aside from that I think it is a great unit overall. Speakers are absolutely magical, the screen is beautiful, keyboard is really pleasant to type on and makes me want to have excuses to type more on it.
Basically a long way of saying thanks for your hard work, but thank you for your hard work 😂🤦
Glad you're enjoying yours, hopefully it's available soon in the US!
How magical is the speakers compete to Mac?
I think Asus nailed it in overall experience instead of pushing raw fps numbers, which is what Mac focuses
thanks for checking the linux distro on the laptop, it is the major thing I concern
Thank you, Jarrod, for this useful video! I think in 2024 OLED is still a big scary issue with the possible pixel burn-in as a result of a static image being left on a display for a prolonged period...
Jared, you should recommend ghelper in these videos, as it makes these laptops so much better than stock.
Superb vid, waiting for the g16 review with a rtx 4080 or 4090
Great review mate, very thorough
You too!!! :))
Thanks!
I watched your review first and I don't know how you get higher performance in the CPU (Cinebench 24) compared to G14 from 2023 and Jarrod got slighly worse results. It seems like jarrod's G14 has underpowered CPU for some odd reason.
I was waiting for your review of this laptop :) Best reviews ever!
Same!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
is there any benefit to getting a 4080 or 4090 for the g16, how much does the core ultra 9 effect the performance? should I just get a i7 or i9 instead@@JarrodsTech
Thankyou your work, especially linux test. I always need it but nomaly nobody do that.
Great improvements but still a shame about the keyboard lighting and screen wobble. I know these are small nitpicks but nevertheless they matter.
Jarrod ! I knew you’d be honest in your review as always. Other reviewers take note.
It’s okay to like a laptop but still point out the negatives, concerns, compromises present. I knew you’d be balanced for the viewer
Superb review as always 👑
Agreed 😄
@@TheOnlyName I’m glad he found the issues I stressed theoretically in my earlier video. Guess I wasn’t off base 😅
Now people will know what they are buying into. Doesn’t make it a “bad laptop” but rather an expensive laptop with major compromises. If that’s okay with the consumer, then have at it. But people need to know
That’s why these videos are important. I bit the bullet to buy the g16, when it comes out I’ll have a review. Not confident but at least it is more realistically priced in Canada than the g14
Thanks Jarrod!! I purchased a Legion Slim 5 14" based on your review, and after seeing this review, I have no regrets! The Asus would be $800 more than I paid with no real benefit other than G-Sync. I am surprised that the Asus w/ 4070 was only slightly ahead of the Legion Slim with a 4060.
Hows the battery life if you are being conservative?
(60Hz, Windows Battery Saver mode, half or less brightness, etc)
@@vik1ng313got the same question
i have a 2022 6700s g14, and my next upgrade will most likely be one of those legions if the battery life is as good as the g14
Great in-depth review, as always 👍. Just got this new G14 with RTX 4060 and 32 GB of RAM. G14 2024 skews with RTX 4070 not available in Mainland China for some reason. Was considering between G14 and G16 a lot… Hope the review of this year’s G16 is coming soon also 😊.
Hey, Spanish audio translation is really helpful.
Although i can speak English it's very uncomfortable having to translate to my brother all the time
Big blessings from Cuba.
As always god content on this channel
Hows its Battery performance on video editing compared to Macbook m3? Thanks!
Honestly despite initial high pricing, the performance tradeoff for a sleeker chassis and superior speakers is well worth it to me!
As long as it can game more than decently I won't complain at all. Especially considering those temps.
Wow, fair review and some basic * Linux testing. I knew I loved this channel. Great work!
(whoa, also, I have an idea for you - I could build you custom ISOs with latest kernels that boot into some benchmark / auto-demo - I have done this sort of thing lots of times)
This is the first time ive been interested in a 16 inch version of a 14 inch laptop more since i always favoured or considered portability as a key factor. Any chances of a G16 review coming anytime soon? Great work btw youre the only youtuber i trust when it comes to buying laptops🙌👏
We're planning on covering the G16, we just don't have it yet.
@@JarrodsTech that's great! Love your content btw :)
I'm aware of the issues, but I'm hoping to get one for college in the next couple months especially if it goes on sale!! Just hoping for the black model to be sold in the US though.
Any plans of reviewing Meteor Lake laptops?
Great update to the chassis/design; shame about the lower performance from last year.
for the linux support part of the video, the lack of audio option probably has to do with being a live image and not actually installed and for the shortcuts installing asusctl would most likely fix it
Just a question
What do you do with all these laptops after you're done making a video?🤔
Which do you think would be a better buy in terms of gaming performance? The 2022 Razarblade 14 3080ti for $1799.99 or wait for a 2024 g14 4070 restock at $1999.99?
I like the oled screen, design, portability and battery life of the 2024 g14 but am unsure how i feel about the 4070 8gb.. the 2022 razer 14 has a 3080ti with 12gb. I plan on playing mostly on the laptop itself but occasionally would like to play 4k on a 65" lg oled
Hi Jarrod! Great review as always. In the Linux section, I would suggest you to also test sleep/wake functionality on laptops since on some laptops its broken and you have to restart the whole pc to fix it
Will that work with a live CD? We are not looking to spend additional time installing the OS to test things
Legion - 13650h and Ryzen 7 7840hs - both regular and slim models have had price drops in India. Selling at around 130k INR.
Good to purchase ?
Very cool, cleared your doubts. should we wait for a review on the 16 inch version with 4080 - 4090?
Hey Jarrod, can you also review the problems with the Asus Tuff FX505?
That's the only laptop within my range of budget right now
Would love to see you do a review of G16 as well, perhaps with a 32 GB RAM? Also, can you also include a view/perspective on these from an advanced productivity kind of work? Say as compared to Dell's XPS for that kind of use case?
That battery life, wow! And the temps are surprisingly good too. But then again, 12W at 2500MHz is a low wattage to run the CPU at. Seems to work decent in games though, maybe a better CPU bin like you said. Plus just AMD efficiency. Overall pretty impressive, and in the US it’s a similar price to last year’s model. Just a huge shame they didn’t make a slightly thicker 4080/4090 version.
Hi Jareod if you put the G14 side by side with Razer blade 14 which one will be thinner? Specs says g14 have lower height at 0.64 than the blade 14 but looking at it in videos, it seems to be higher of the ground than a blade 14.
Will you do a reveiw on the G16?
that screen REALLY wobbles - eek. Not sure I want to deal with that. They spent the time and money upgrading to milled aluminum - why didn't they tighten up the hinge? So weird. Great review, as always.
could you add the acer nitro 5 with the 3070ti too to these performance tables if that’s not too much of an issue?
Hey mate, sorry it's not related to the video, but I would appreciate your advice. I need a new laptop, and for my budget, I can get same spec machines with either a 3080ti or 4060..
The 16gig is great but the 40 has frame gen and runs cooler etc.
I don't know what to do lol.
Thank you
Jarrod makes the best laptop reviews!
Jarrod:'just talking'
Zephyrus: wobbling uncontrolaboly
Are we going to get a review of the g16 with the vapor chamber?
can you do a video explian laptop displays, like the difference between wqhd and rog nebula displays?
Can you please review the g18 and put the thermals on a chart comparing all laptopts to see wich one is better than others
I have time, I'll be picking it up during a sale. :)
Loved the review btw! Very thorough!
The Razer Blade 14 actually isn't too much more expensive compared to the 2024 Asus Zephyrus G14 models while having the maximum (even with the voltage limit) GPU power limits, upgradable RAM, two USB4 ports, and a nicer design imo. And the keys are per key RGB on the Blade with dark colored keys, compared to the white keys with a single RGB zone on the G14.
I honestly cant see myself recommending the G14 this year, especially when one of its major selling points last year, the ability to go past an RTX 4070 in a 14 inch laptop, is now gone.
The worst thing for Asus is it’s not like they’re saving money by giving worse performance. Nvidia/AMD aren’t going to discount chips for running them at a lower wattage. And they’re keeping the price same while giving us OLED and good speakers. So they made a product which many people won’t be happy about while also losing a bit of money. What a lose-lose situation. Unless obviously their plan is that everyone buys the 4070 model for 32gb RAM.
@@jivewig Exactly. I don't know what Asus or many OEMs this year are doing, but it looks to be a terrible year for laptops except for maybe Framework.
That sounds nice on paper for the Razer Blade, but on practice I think this G14 will outlast it.
This is just anecdotal evidence, but I haven't heard (or read) one not ONE person saying "maan, this Razer laptop is so good, it's now 6 years old and still going strong" or something among these lines. While with the other big laptop manufacturers you do have that, though it's not guaranteed, not all models are good, and sadly, the price isn't a hint on its durability. Still, statistic wise, if durability is something I care about, I'd choose ASUS over Razer. Though, on that note, unless you have specific needs, if you caree about this, then Framework is miles ahead everyone else. With the Clevo-based laptops coming after.
@Winnetou17 Asus literally had issues with speakers popping on older Zephyrus G laptops.
Razer had battery bloating issues. However, they've since moved to a 2 year warranty for it.
@@Winnetou17Here’s the one person saying it. I have an early 2019 Razer Blade 15 Advanced (2070 Max-Q). 5 years on, still going strong. My channel has a video of me running Assasin’s Creed Valhalla on it, in case you think I’m trolling.
Watching on my new 2024 G14, audio from these speakers sounds 🔥

Lenovo LOQ i7 RTX 3050
Or the
Asus TUF A15 i7 RTX 4050?
Need insight 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the video! I think this is good for people who want a low profile and smooth experience for some graphic design and video editing. Maybe some gaming too.
Nonetheless, 2023's model looks way more attractive now. Hopefully they'll be cheaper now that this one's out.
How do you think it compares to Legion Slim 5 14 inch model?
I wonder if you know whether I can replace my g14 2024's current 1x16 gigs ram with 1x32 gigs ram or not. Also, what should I be considering if I'm able to that? (dual-channel, max capacity etc.)
Is bestbuy version 2k screen instead of 3k?
Is it possible for you to publish the entire list of battery life that includes all the reviews you've done. I have a razer blade 14 (2022), so it's hard to figure out if my laptop is lower than the 2023 placement and if so, how low.
is it possible to fix the screen wobble by tightening screws or is it impossible without changing the hinges?
when would you show razer blade 16 it's looks great as shown in some of your paragraph
Is the bottom panel aluminum this time or still plastic?
Hi Jarrod! Awesome video as always ❤️
Could you give any more insight into when and what causes the CPU to be limited at 12w? Is it when the GPU hits a certain temperature - or are there any other specific conditions that you noticed as a trigger for that limit?
Certainly want to be able to optimize for best CPU performance when needed!
Thanks!
ASUS set it, presumably in the BIOS. It's whenever the GPU is active at the same time. Happens straight away.
Banger video as always ! Any chance you'll get the new Lenovo Legion 7i for review ( the non-pro model ) and if so, when can we expect a review ? I'm really curious how the 14900HX behaves in a under 2 cm chasis. Thanks !
It's true abt the memory options mostly being 32 gig in some regions. Up here in Canada, preorders so far only seem to have that. It makes one wonder though: given the tdp, how different would the 4070 have vs the 4060? As always, thanks so much for testing all this and all this info.
Hello, thank you for these videos, I'm looking for a notebook and I have chosen different models: Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14.5 vs Asus G14 2024 vs Legion Slim 7 with Intel (I couldn't find the AMD at a good price) all with 4060 graphics. Any recommendations?
I like the slim 14 and the size is perfect but the sound is bad approximately 1500 euros
the slim 7 has intel with better sound with a 16 screen it is not oled I think the version I saw at the price is the 240hz one 1800 euros
and finally the asus G14 is about 2000 euros and has good sound
thanks and regards
You're the best in the business, Jarrod! G16 review coming soon? Interested in the impact of Intel.
Thanks! We don't have the G16 yet, but hopefully soon!
Are they making variations or there are old models of G14-16?
18:13 and before too, but in this section for red dead redemption, you appear to be showing the 1080p numbers but saying 1440p out loud and vice versa. Little confusing though, but otherwise, very helpful and insightful video!
oh hi, neat seeing you here
Now this would be a perfect laptop for me but not having a 2nd ssd slot is a bit of a deal breaker for me but damn that battery life has got me second guessing
Nice review thanks without 64gb it is a no go for me unfortunately but great info.
Bro is that we need to remove the battery before upgrade a m. 2 in laptop asus tuf f15 2023
Could you do a review of the zephyrus G16 ?
It's a fine laptop, if you don't look at the retail price. Those wanting these specs should wait for a sale, or look for last year's option or the legion 14" OLED if you have to buy now
what i learned from owning a 2017 first of legion series
the screen is more reliable then 2K dell external monitor thats now premium paper weight that almost caused a fire
SSD is a must especially a 1tb one cause windows and its bloatware gonna take a lot of unnecessary space
32C summer heatwave max speed is the minimum must or play heat resistant cause cooling for laptops is a severe problem and that includes fan loudness
membrane keyboard was never reliable to begin with so atleast new lenovo are nice to include replacements
and that a battery on blackout is a project live saver
looking forward for high tier new G16 with 4090 gpu review
Any other AMD based laptop with OLED 14/15'' I should be aware of? Both dedicated and APU. I have been looking at Lenovo too but I can't decide.
whoah...why wouldnt you be able to charge thru the tb4 port while using tb4 for egpu?? is this laptop uniquely unable to do both at once?

I have a g16 2023 rog 13650 intel + 4080, my friend has the zephyrus 2024 and i have an other friend with the 2023 version and we all encounter the same issue. A bios update forced by windows update with EZ Flash. It always fails and we all end up with a black screen. Only way to restart it (because it doesnt restart) is by unplugging it and pressing 30 seconds the power button. It always come back every 2 months... Why ? How to fix it Jarrod ?
This was a contender for my next computer, but the legion series has PHENOMENAL build quality, better specs for the same or less, better io layout, etc. I got the legion yesterday. Maybe this thing is more because of the slightly higher res screen and compact design, but I still think the legion series is better than this specific asus line
Considering returning the 2024 G14 I just got because of fan issues. When one of the fans spins up a loud "clunk" noise is made. When doing productivity loads this is really annoying, as the fan will kick in every few minutes.
I've seen several threads/comments discussing similar issues. Inexcusable for quality control on a premium product to be so lax.
It will cost another 2000. G14 2025.
How this laptop compares with the new HP transcend 14 ?
I have that Acer helios 300 from 2021 (11th gen) and i can confirm it have highest Total System Latency ever existed on a laptop xD 45ms+
Does it fit 4TB double sided SSD?
Is it at least somewhat better in performance than the 2021?
If this ends up completely replacing the Zenbook Pro 14 2023 I hope next revision of the G14 has touchscreen, because that was my main interest when getting the ZP14
Exactly the same, need a touchscreen to take notes XD
Hi Jarrod. Do you have recommendations for a non-mac equivalent for mac laptops? Basically thin and sleek with a good battery life? I am looking for something that's slim but want to avoid apple and gaming laptops/loud fans under load. Equivalent specs (as close as possible) of a mac, but its not a mac. Thank you!
Do you need Mac levels of performance though? Coz if you need performance then your best bet is the G14, anyone from 2022 to 2024 is good enough for most stuff if you can have it at a great price. For thin and light chassis with limited performance (ultrabook) there are other options.
I'm not a fan of the diagonal stripe. I would rather not have it to look even more discrete.
Why did they go backwards on the lid? Last years model was great and now the diagonal strip just looks weird.
@18:59 seems like the i7+i9 CPUs bead AMD in video editing??
Or maybe it's more that the size of those laptops that pass the G14 performance is 16"+17"+18" ? And it's not the CPU?
I avoid intel on laptopa cause it feels like they only give you 2hr of battery life for After Effects + Davinci video editing....😢. Not sure if that assumption is true tho...
