I find it amazing that skipping a jig is possible. I have to stop my spool with my thumb before it hits the water, otherwise I get a birds nest. Intentionally hitting the water (several times) and not getting overspool is lost on me. How do you stop that?
Greg I have been trying to learn how to skip jigs, but all I am learning is how to take out back-lashes. Would you please give us some tip on your style you do so well.
***** Tension: I've found that the spool tension isn't the biggest factor. Just don't make the tension so tight that the bait can't fall freely when you hold your rod tip up. I prefer loose tension because it skips further. Brakes: It's easier to start off with brakes on max or close to max, then lower as you get better. Thumb: Always thumb the spool. I've found it helpful to slowly raise my rod after my bait touches the water. It helps keep the bait on the surface. Also, keeping the rod low and parallel to the surface makes it much easier to skip, but this can change as you get better.
best way I've found is ajist your brakes were your bait can free fall into the water with out the line spolling off the reel like crazy you just want it loose enuff were it will hit water and barely fall
I use to use a kid rod was only say 2 feet long an pull it back an shoot it under there like a sling shot cause jigger poles started being illeagle in tournments
I don't mean to criticize but it would have been nice to see him skip it..... not just see the jaw-jacking and talking about it. He spoke about seeing wakes and the bass following... again there was no actionable instruction.
he got hung in a tree an was going to get it i said you better break it off an buy another one there was a wasp next big as basketball hanging on a limb
tyler stiff - sometimes you have to set the hook hard - however I completely agree with you on this. Start watching the video at 2:10 when he thinks he has a big bass and proceeds to rip a bass out of the water and through a tree. And then he does that stupid hook popping shit to get the jig out. Two things that are just not cool for a lake that I could possibly be fishing in. I'm not a wiener - but a lot of people could have a little more respect for acceptable ways to catch/handle fish. If that was a female fish getting ready to spawn, I guarantee there is *no way* it would actually spawn out its eggs that year.
I love it when people say stuff like this, you cast a jig or worm out and let it fall then get that thunk thunk and see your line swimming off sideways you see how EASY you set the hook on a fish. as far as pulling the fish out of the water i honestly don't think that hurts them what does is taking a 5 pound bass and lipping it and jacking it to side opening its mouth up or boat flipping one letting it slam the side of the boat or dropping a fish from up high. BUT if you were fishing for as much money as these guys are you would do whatever to get that hawg in the boat ASAP. I try to reel set on a jig because you don't create that hole in the side of there mouth then the weight of a heavy jig throws it out there mouth. all you really need to do is reel down fast and sweep BUT I enjoy crossing there eyes and so does every body else out there IF there honest.

Boooom! And that's the Angler of the Year....the man is a solid machine!
Was this filmed with a toaster?
Badass video and great tips!!
The video quality seriously looks like I dropped 2 tabs of acid... lol
I normally use the baby rage craw on my casting jigs. What trailers do you use on skipping jigs and swimming jigs?
Thumbs down for the camera work. Picture kept distorting. Drove me nuts!
GregK9 They dropped audio for a bit too.
Congratulations man keep up the good work
I think this segment was filmed with a potato.
The camera work and the distortion of images made me feel like I was on drugs..... thanks
I enjoyed your video. Thanks.

Tom Roucek Sr. Watch the g man
watch how to skip by fish the moment
How do you have your spool tension set. How about the casting brakes? Are you using your thumb? I didn't hear any "how to" skip.

Can u skip a 1/2oz jig ?
Medium heavy or a medium action rod?
Just say you love the KVD rod
I love the guys of Tactical Bassin!
What kinda rod is he using
my son always cutting up about you he say daddy throw it in there if you loose it just buy another one what hack attack says lmao
I use to use a kid rod was only say 2 feet long an pull it back an shoot it under there like a sling shot cause jigger poles started being illeagle in tournments
love the way he popped that jig out of the bass mouth lol
I like how the other video he said he never misses a jig bite, thus. proven wrong.
He said 9 out of 10
Great knowledge, Hack attack knows
i will never get that super hard hookset especially with a flippin stick and braid not needed at all
2:13 - thats how you set a hook!!! ghege
my jig mold has a flat bottom so its like a rock an its over 30 years old
Please provide what rod, reel, and weight of lure you are using. How do you set your bait caster? This was a bad video!
hackney's awesome
What is up with all the new fishers wearing flip flops, sandals and being barefoot on the boats
i enjoy the fight...u pro`s go dragging them in the boat so fast..you forget total fishing enjoyment,,,,
They can fight all they want in the bottom of the boat!
cool
I love skipping swimjigs but it sure does tear off the bottom of the skirt
Try flippin the skirt over, this should keep you from tearing the bottom of skirt off.
I had to search eBay ...and listen to him... couldn't watch it..
Every time I try to skip a jig or worm, I bird nest big time!
I don't care who you are, you ain't skipping in choppy water.
He wasn’t big as I thought...as Hack yanked him 5 feet out of the water!
lol he jacked up the fish lol

I cant stand the way he treats these bass. Its just practice, you dont need to jack the fish 20 feet with the hook set...
Added to the fact that you have to set the crap out of the hook on jigs to drive it through the weed guard. especially on his model

How's about you teach how to skip? Just saying.
