      I'm 3 months into fishing and have fallen in love with jig fishing and him and Seth are my guys, you can tell they have some much experience and knowledge and that's priceless for someone like me , also they way he explains himself is just so clear and logical you can't not understand what he's saying

    I hit the like button before I watched video bc anything that hackney says about jig fishing ( fishing in general really ) is going to be worth listening to. Taking his advice on jigs is what gave me confidence in jigs, now I have atleast one type of jig tied on 100% of the time.

      Nick Cavazos I'm with you, a jig should be a staple, although in the last few years I have used some chatterbaits similar to jigs (Zman makes a weedless). It's odd, but it works...got footage of it on my channel.

    Greg’s heavy cover swim jig is one of my go-to jigs, period. It works well as a swim jig but it also doubles nicely as a skipping jig, etc. Sometimes I don’t even change my paddle tail trailer. I’ll just throw it like a pitching jig and let it drop…works great 🤷‍♂️
    Sometimes I feel like guys overthink their jigs…as far as I care, if it’s got the right profile/color and it doesn’t hang up, it’s good to go.

    JIG stands for just inticing giants in my book! I never threw a jig when I first started bass fishing and I was missing out! Now I always have one or two tied on. Got to love hackney!👊💥

    So I'm trying to step up my jig fishing game, I watched all of the Greg Hackney videos I could, decided my current jigs were old and dated so i went out to my local bait shop and handpicked some nice looking jigs and trailers using Greg Hackneys advice, went to a nearby lakeshore, super excited and anxious, I tied on a flouro leader and then tied on the one expensive $12 casting jig that I talked myself into splurging on, instead of the several $4-$6 jigs i bought. I Adjusted the brakes accordingly, Rared back, aimed for a super bass-y looking spot about 20yds along the shoreline, let her fly and pop, that beatiful $12 jig flew about 60 yds into the water and the end of my braided line was flapping in the wind about 10ft in front of me.... Apparently my reel had a minor back lash that I somehow didn't notice before casting. I threw my rod back in the truck, loaded up and went home after donating that $12 jig to the bottom of the lake... 😂 😂

    Great info.
    I rely started jigging more last year. Did ok and still lots of work to do. Usually start with small lizards or brushogs and move to frogs and jerkbaits. As the year goes I stay with frogs and start using swim baits.

    This is 3 years old but this guy is spilling knowledge! It's hard to deliver a message while being filmed and talking, but if you're smart- you'll pick up on his small cues. Size, color tweaking, matching color to sunfish forage, swimming jigs on flat cover...etc. the man is an encyclopedia.

    what weight jig do you like to use in dirty water compared to clear water ? fishing in shallow water like 1 to 5 feet ... From Virginia !

    • @lkeith88
      @lkeith88 2 роки тому

      Idk about Greg but where i'm at and what i fish is typically river systems and oxbows. 3/8ths jigs are my bread and butter for shallow cover (mainly brush, stumps, and laydowns where i'm at). That being said, with the main river system i fish, when it falls the bass fall with it. Inverse for rising water obviously. It's muddy or stained at best all year. Shallow cover for me 2-6' 3/8ths. 6-12' 1/2 oz. 12'-20' 3/4oz or 1 oz. I never fish those deeper depths unless i'm in the main river in a deep eddy. I just want it to get down quickly. We got on 3 seperate schools yesterday on the same spot at 3 different times. Found em with crankbaits on a creek mouth stacked up in about 14' of water sitting on a gravel patch on a clay ledge next to a big underwater brush pile. Tied on a 3/4 oz green pumpkin a with a paka craw dipped in chartreuse. We caught 37 off that one spot. Think i caught 16 of them. I'd get a couple with the crank and then the bite would stop. Started throwing the jig to the same spot over and over and they would absolutely crush it.

    I hate in these type of "instructional" fishing videos, the cameraman keeps the camera pointed on the anglers back. I want to see where they are casting to. What parts of a feature they are presenting at? Are they casting multiple times to the same spot? Are they fanning from side to side of the structure on their casts or going straight to the heart of cover? Who cares about the back of the guys shirt... Well I guess sponsors do, but I watch these videos to not only learn and improve my skill, but to live vicariously on days I can't be fishing myself. I love to watch the bait land and anticipate a strike as if I'm in that situation casting myself.

    • @andywilliamson7846
      @andywilliamson7846 6 років тому

      Yes, getting as far forward as reasonably possible is great for doing most of the "work" a bass fisherman needs to do. I use a bow mounted hand controlled Minnkota, steering with the handle between my legs and/or tapping the handle occasionally. It is interesting how Greg uses the "flippin'" word a lot, yet does NOT make a single flip! (At least in an interview he did about a year ago he said, "Pitchin', flippin'.....it's all the same to me". )
