- Transcription of James Saranos' solo on Pennies From Heaven, as performed by Veronica Swift along with many other great musicians. This was recommended to me by a friend, and I gotta say it's a good one. I hope you enjoy it!
Original: • "Pennies From Heaven" ...
Wow! Thank you so much for the generous title 😂. I appreciate your time and generosity! Hopefully I can knock out some cleaner one choruses in the future! 😅
Sweet playing, man.
Miss ya sarns
James Sarno!! Proper internet famous!! :-) :-) :-)
Great response!
Sooo much soul! Great solo and transcription
Drunk in a basement somewhere listening to this kind of soul is what I strive to do in my life.
Amazing work! I thought I was the only one who knew about this niche performance and I actually learned the trumpet solo on piano when the vid came out
It would be really cool if you added the chords when you transcribe jazz solos and then we can analyze the solo right from the video!
These are pretty standard chords, you should be able to hear them
@@PieInTheSky9 obviously not everyone is at the level where they can hear the chords.. come on dude
@@chrispotter3190 Honestly if you can't hear basic changes like this yet, I suggest spending some time and figuring them out yourself. It will help your playing immensely.
@@PieInTheSky9 it’s almost like you missed the point of my comment entirely. some people literally can’t do that yet. No matter how hard they tried. Do you think someone who’s brand new at playing music could just sit down and figure out what the chords are by ear? You’re delusional if you actually believe that
@@chrispotter3190 If you're brand new and not at the level where you can figure out standard jazz progressions no matter how hard you try, I'd suggest taking lessons with a good teacher.
The "I've never heard a trumpet improvisation" crowd
nice guitar comping too
Fabulous!!!!!
Drummer just vibing
That was dope
Hot damn!
Wow. Was not expecting such tasty lines at a dive bar. Brilliant job everyone
that's smalls
Jason brown on drums! Plays a lot in London :)
MY MAN
Its not what he played per se, but how he played it.
What are these places called? Jazz Bars? I would really love to see something like this live, but I don’t know where to look.
Jazz clubs. This one is Smalls in New York
Fewer and fewer of these places existing!
Being in New Orleans, the birthplace of this great flavor of music, I'm a little spoiled because I can name five clubs off the top of my head, and that's just on one street (Frenchman). If you ever go, try Snug Harbor, Three Muses, the Spotted Cat, Blue Nile, D.B.A., or the Maison. All of these clubs are less than a mile away from the New Orleans Jazz Museum on Esplanade Ave. In your local area, just look for "jazz clubs" or "music clubs" and if you call you can ask when the next time they have a Jazz band performing.
0:17 KDism on that lick!!
You mean JAMES SARNO!!!!!!
Siq chorus and transcription! Guit player seemed decent

i heard it...
The licc reigns supreme.
the start of 10th bar?
Didn't know Riley Reid was into jazz
That’s exactly what I was thinking
He sounds like Louis Armstrong
Is that the elephant room?
I love the fact that you transcribe solos from average players, very refreshing.
lmao
Yowza
yeah, says you with that ridiculous and incorrect username.
He sounds great :)
@@duncancofell8960 Agreed
She looks like Riley Reid
Who’s that?
@@andiravicencio7826 she's a very talented lyricist! Look up her rap. It's very deep and touching.
Haahahahah rip that innocent soul.
*Bonk*
Aye Fr tho that’s Veronica swift she rips on trumpet! She holds her own but she also toured a Chris Botti recently too!
And yet it honestly sounded like he was struggling a few times
The struggle makes this solo real.
How was he struggling at all?
It’s a concept in jazz called “dirty” playing. He’s not struggling at all. He’s making it sound “dirty” which gives the solo more of a jazz feel.

I'm not referring to the half-valving or any of that. I'm a trumpet player and a trained composer, please don't patronize me.
Edit: The player commented himself and admits that it's not clean.
@R Nickerson The trumpet I was playing I had just bought, so I was still getting used to it. I played with Veronica a few weeks later and figured out a better setup. I do agree it could've been cleaner though! 😅

His tone could do with some work.
His tone is fantastic
Does this guy even realise he’s playing in the wrong key?
no he's not lol
Hey man the trumket is actually in Bb
Lmao I been there! Rippin solo but half step off
Ahahah
All of the notes feel like bricks. No control. Why was this suggested to me? I would guess this cat spent less than 5,000 hours practicing.
Nah he’s great
Good description.
