Miranda worked on My Shot for a year. He said he wanted to show by the lyrics that Hamilton was a genius and was way ahead of the others in the room. I think he succeeded in showing that for the character, but I am also always impressed by how much Miranda himself clearly loves language. He is brilliant with words!
Forgive me if you already knew this, but "Frenchie", Daveed Diggs, isn't French, so he's having to do a French accent while rapping. It's really impressive. As someone else pointed out, Lin definitely grew up listening to rap. There are lots of nods to Lin's rap influences scattered throughout the show. In the book Hamilton: The Revolution, which has the script for the entire show with annotations by Lin along with essays about various aspects of putting the show together, Lin added these annotations to the beginning of "My Shot": "I gotta holler just to be heard." -> And Tupac responds, "Holla if ya hear me." "Only nineteen but my mind is older." -> Mobb Deep's greatest lyric, revisited here. "A-L-E-X-A-N-D-E-R-we are-meant to be..." -> This cadence is used by The Notorious B.I.G. in "Going Back to Cali" when spelling his own name: I'm calling on all the East Coast rap gods in this verse.
Re: Lin's Rap Influences: both of what you stated! He grew up listening to 80s and 90s rap AND he has his own improv rap/comedy group called "Freestyle Love Supreme". Both "Frenchie" (Daveed Diggs) and "George Washington" (Chris Jackson who you'll hear as you continue to check out this show's songs) have both performed in that group. And no it's not crazy, it's GENIUS which is why he justifiably earned a MacArthur Fellows Program Grant as well as a Tony, and a Pulitzer!
I think if you switch just stick with Disney+ it's so much better for context and nuance of facial expressions and overall story telling when you've never seen it. Others are able to get through copyright by obscuring the image a bit? And also pausing to react and comment 😊
@@Phelddagrif1998 I've seen Hadestown, I just havent checked it out yet but I guess we have different preference. I personally love Heathers because of how wild it is compared to some musicals I know so far, especially to where I'm from, people are quite sensitive to some of Heathers' concepts.
@@HIM_066xMusicReactions btw, I would like to recommend the animatics of missyasylum for Heathers (she has a playlist), I believe her animatics portrayed it so well that you get the context immediately❤
To be honest I would suggest skipping the animatics and just watching the actual show. The animatics are fine and all but they don’t really do anything for me personally, and I don’t feel like they convey the story and emotions as well as just watching the actors. It will give you the best appreciation. If you’re stopping frequently and making commentary, and maybe use an overlay or whatever, copyright shouldn’t be a big issue. Anyway, hope you’ll consider doing it that way.

WHAT he isnt French??? We've been hoodwinked, bamboozled, lead astray, run amok and flat out deceived 😭😭😭 He is a great actor

🤯 ty for dropping knowledge friend
The cool thing when you're deep enough in the rabbit hole to recognize it... is that he specifically has cadences for each character.
🤔🤔🤔
Can't wait for you to get to Guns and Ships. "Lafayette!" Daveed Diggs is the $#!*! And then switching to Jefferson in Act 2. Brilliant! Sigh.
I'm biding my time for the cabinet battles
friends you got me hype I cant wait!!
@HIM_066xMusicReactions Dude, if the bars don't hit, the lyrics will.

Here from Falling in Reverse, staying for Hamilton! Love these reactions!
🙏🏾 ty for checking out my non FiR reactions
For the next musical recommendation I HIGHLY suggest Heathers the Musical!! it also has its animation :3)
Heathers isn’t as good as Hadestown. I really wish more people knew about Hadestown.

I'll add them both to the list ty for the recommendations
