    The fake rock sucks and always contributes to the ugly stage. Also don’t see much flow and don’t see much of a cleanup crew. Agree that limited use of lighting in a new tank is very important.

    I’m fighting Dino’s atm, I originally thought it was just an ugly algae, but the bubbles in it are what made me realise it was Dino’s, I’m fighting them with less light, like more complete darkness throughout the night and sometimes during the day, at the start of the dark times I add some hydrogen peroxide and blast all the rocks with a turkey badger, this loosens the Dino’s and th peroxide helps to kill some of it, I been feeding more heavily to get nitrates up too, it’s been a struggle, I would add more fish but it’s just a 12g tank so I’m very limited, I lost all my snails due to the Dino’s, and lost some corals 😢 but I still have my 5 hermit crabs doing well and my yellow clown goby is doing well also 🥰🍻 hope this helps some other ppl too, if I was to start a new tank, or restart this tank I would def get at least a small amount of live rock to help start the biodiversity in the tank. That seems to be the biggest reason for Dino’s and I don’t want anyone else to have to deal with Dino’s like I am 👊🥰🍻

      Back in the day when they used “Live” rock from the ocean - they still had Dino’s.

    How long does it take for dry rock to cure and get bacteria?
    Thanks

      Depends on the tank. We usually see rock fully cured/ good around 8 months.

    Dang. I have my nitrates nitrites up and feed everyday and I feel pretty heavy and it seems to get worse by the day.

      Try adding live rock from a trusted source as way to get beneficial bacteria in your tank. Must be a tank that’s got no pest no disease and is well established.

    You can buy pure nitrate to dose?

    • @aquariumservicetech2891
      @aquariumservicetech2891  Рік тому

      Yes but it’s probably easier to use store bought.

      @@aquariumservicetech2891 you can buy it in stores? Does it come in a bottle or something? I’ve never seen that

    I'd rather have the brown on the sand than the green hair algae....good luck getting rid of that.

    worried abouut haaair aalgee??? just throw some hermit crabs in there. 3 turbo snails and 2 hermit crabs takes care of almost every algae that pops up. Hell i get worried if i dont see any algae.
