For me, the levelers represent the need to break free of the burden of town and city life, and be in the countryside, and walk among the forests. 'here amongst the city lights the feelings not so good' interprets to me as being bored of city life. This music really just makes me want to run away somewhere in the great outdoors and enjoy the freedom
Went to see them at the Halloween Town Festival just over a week ago. Brilliant as ever and made my decision to quit the rat race and become a gardener all the more satisfying. I am now at one with nature and more in tune with the lads as I have ever been.
Oh yes! Hiking and being on countryside and coast is my saviour. Whilst lots of things in this country is broken, our landscape is amazing and a spiritual relief. I'll always love it.
Followed this Epic Band for years and years seen them tons of times absolutely outstanding band unbelievable live peace love and whatever makes you happy dance smile and party enjoy life people 🥳🍺🍻🙏🏻❤️👌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
glitterfaerie08 very f@kin true! Modern life isn't for me. As I write this on my iPhone! Funny that!!!! Sound vibration and resonance. It's always been there. It's past present and future ✌️
The Men an Tol (= holed stone in Cornish) is a prehistoric stone row with a unique annular stone in the centre. It's on the Penwith moors in the extreme SW. There were local superstitions eg passing someone 3 times through the hole in a particular direction would cure rickets. I was there once and found a group of people lying on their backs in a geometric pattern round the stones! Not far away is the ruined engine house of Ding Dong mine, plus a stone circle and Lanyon Quoit. A totally wonderful place.
Thanks for the info. I’ve known this song for decades but never knew what the men an tol was..... thought it was the name of a hill.... I even looked at maps of the south western hills. I suppose I could have just googled it!
Wow! My favourite band that brings me back to centre when I'm too high and mighty: They remind me of what is important. A wonderful view of the Giant's Causeway: I miss N.Ireland with all my heart. Home.
Got to be one of the best, most powerful songs ever written. A truely epic band that is still to this day the best festival / live band ever, with a hell of a message to give.
Ah such fond memories this timeless classic rekindles...I lived in Cornwall for several years and visited this stone row among many others. Just the sheer primitiveness of being at a stone circle, it's like nothing else. I still remember stripping off and dancing naked around the Nine Ladies stone circle, until some German tourists descended from a coach!! lol Good times. Now I'm an expat abroad and no idea if or when I'll ever get home to England, what with the current tyrannical restrictions which impact expats hugely, among everybody else of course. The Levellers are my nostalgic TARDIS to happier times, free of concerns and all the stresses we face today...when life was more years ahead of you than behind and optimism, not fear, uncertainty and depression, was the norm. I feel like all I have is my memories, as to look forward with any positivity whatsoever is impossible. Wish I was 20yrs old again, back then...youth is wasted on the young. :-(
I have lived before this life...this song conjures memories of my past...serving on board a ship with sails and rigging, fighting a storm with rain and wind on my face. I believe it was Nelson's Navy? A past Life???
Wonderful song, wonderful images. I feel so lucky to live so close to the Men-An-Tol near Morvah and Zennor. The whole area along that coast from St Ives to St Just is truly awe inspiring in it's natural, rugged beauty. That song justifies it!
one option is to try going in spring or end of summer, or get a advance train ticket with a bike, to get down those country roads, its a vpopular area in summer.
Am from West Penwith AND a Levellers lover - but it's interesting to see Stonehenge, Giant's Causeway (and other sundry places in Ireland) featured in a video titled 'Men-An-Tol'!
Its a sprirtual thing! not meant to be taken too litrally! Its a song about the spiritual things of britain! We was the center for druidism once! britain! A spiritual center! hahaha! we lost that a LONG time ago!
The Radjel in Pendeen. A true locals pub. Gurnards Head. A bit Posh these days. Miners in Zennor. Nice but can be taken over in the summer.. North inn Pendeen, another local Pub St just has the Star in the square. 5pubs all within 150 yards. But the star is the best. Try the white hart at Ludgvan. My local about 4 miles from Men an tol.
It's between Penzance and St Ives. More precisely it's about a mile walk along a path off the country road between Madron and Morvah. It's a beautiful place and I played this song on my headphones when I was last there. Very spiritual. "I get the strangest feeling".
The stones pictured at 1:43 , my mum and i stumbled upon them on a misty rainy day and it was somehow even more beautiful! Can anyone tell me the name of these stones if they have one?

Sadly you will still have Tax, Fascist Police and Government and more, the only escape is Change not just you or me but everyone.... Unite....
Me too...I get ya..

Oh yes! Hiking and being on countryside and coast is my saviour. Whilst lots of things in this country is broken, our landscape is amazing and a spiritual relief. I'll always love it.
This song pushed me through real cruel times. One of the best songs of all times

I only live a couple of miles from Men an tol. Really gives me the tingles a song about my home.

Yes, there is a lot of neolithic and industrial history in Cornwall.

The compulsory commercial advertising for tumble driers and IKEA landscape gardening takes from the vibes a wee bit.

the men-an-tol is so strange, no one really knows why its there or what it's for, its the source of all magic in Cornwall

Standing....stones.
Seriously tho Finn Hawker I don't know if these are completely unique or a part of many other stone designs. Where did you find them?
Yeah
@FrankyHaemmer but is this art ?
What are the pictures at 1:26 and 1:30?
I heard a cross between ,Dire straits - the mans too strong and Clannad- dunnein sugradh
smile
Are all of these images from cornwall?
Not all. There are a few of the Giants Causeway, Whitepark Bay and Dunluce Castle on the north antrim coast, Northern Ireland!
Avebury stone circle, Silbury Hill (near Avebury) and Stonehenge are in this video and they are all in Wiltshire.
all from UK and Ireland...
I'd write in my own blood if I had to! But you'd all live in fear of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@DarthCoors did the same about 10 years ago
Happy imbolc.
