I LOVED Ash. It's one of the few retellings that FELT like a fairytale. It seems like usually fairtale retellings keep plot points, that's it. But I loved how Ash captured that fairytale atmosphere, plus it has such a wonderful, distinct narrative voice.
Every Heart a Doorway ended up being my favourite, the idea of not belonging or fitting anymore when you return really resonated with me, also ace rep was the thing I didn't know I was missing but desperately needed in my life.
It was really hard to narrow down but I think my top 5 favorite books of 2016 are Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater, The Black Wolf by J.A. Redmerski and Proxy by Alex London.
If you plan on reading more of Malinda Lo's works, I would love to hear your thoughts about Adaptation. It has my, so far, favorite portrayal of a bisexual protagonist.
i LOVEDDD Every Heard a Doorway! I actually read the book because I saw that you were reading it on a vlog, I believe. Definitely one of my AL TIME FAVS!!! Can't wait until Down Among the Sticks and Bones comes out!!!!
I'm still in awe whenever someone mentions Lin narrating Ari and Dante, guess I'll have to check out the audiobook when I finally get to rereading it. Really need to get to the others asap,The Sun Is Also a Star is really high up on my TBR,can't wait to finally pick it up,it sounds brilliant.
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet was my favourite of last year and I read and really liked Every Heart a Doorway as well! Also I knew Every Heart a Doorway was going to be on your list and likely at the top!
I just read Every Heart a Doorway in January and it was FANTASTIC! I'm SO jealous of bloggers and BookTubers getting ARCs for the sequel. I also really liked The Sun is Also a Star.
So many people mentioned Every Heart a Doorway in their favourites, but damn reading it 3 times in the same year! That must be fantastic! I'm off to get that book right now! Also, The Sun is also a Star sounds so so good, but since I don't really enjoy YA contemporaries that much I have never picked it up before. But since you said basically the same and still loved it, I might really need to read it :P
I'm currently reading The Female of the Species and I'm really enjoying it so far! I definitely plan on reading Ash and Every Heart a Doorway sometime this year! I can't wait to see your least favorite books of 2016. 😏
FINALLY!!!! Someone who favourited my fave 2016 book!! Th Female of the Species By Mindy McGinnis was my absolute favourite read of 2016. I can't wait to next the next two books McGinnis is releasing this year. I hope they are just as good or better. I just ordered Every Heart a Doorway. I had never heard of the book before but I just happened upon it the other day and it sounded wonderful. I'm excited to start reading it!
I LOVED Dante & Ari! Other books I loved this year: The COlor Purple, Illuminae/ Gemina, Room, The Vegetarian... I read a lot of good ones! Also, I'm really excited to hear what books you didn't like this year.
I felt the same way The Sun is Also a Star. There was just something wonderful about it, I almost could look past the entire idea that it was supposed to be a romance, that's how much I enjoyed it. It was definitely a favorite of mine from 2016!
I love the way you express yourself. These books sound amazing and I love how diverse the plots and characters sound. I really need to pick some (if not all) of them up. I really take your recommendations on board, haha Oh, I read Ash a few years ago... Maybe of the age of 12-14 and I thought it was so beautiful! I wasn't expecting where the story went and loved every moment of it. It was handled so well and I'm glad I have a gorgeous magical cover! It's definitely due a re-read (and I rarely re-read books, so that's a bold statement, haha).
I want to read If I Was Your Girl so bad! I've herd such incredible things!! The Female of the Species sounds amazing too! I need Ash, Omg o.O I've heard that Every Heart a Doorway is amazing and I also want to read it... I feel like this whole comment is just me going I WANT IT

you mention Ash!!!!! I've never seen any booktuber mention Ash!!!!! I love it and it was the first lesbian book I've ever read and I love it. Have you read Huntress? it's from the same author and the main character is bisexual and it's also fantasy. I really want to read Every Heart a doorway so bad and have no money to buy it 😭😭😭😭 but well, that's life. I liked your video ❤
