the stat that makes me hate the jazz is they were the only team from 1970 until the 2018 cavs to lose a rematch in the finals between the same two teams like the 72 73 lakers knicks 78 79 bullets sonics 84 85 lakers celtics 88 89 lakers pistons 2013 spurs heat and 2015 2016 cavs warriors and the 2018 cavs did not have kyrie as we know so it was not the same team so I give them a pass....what is the jazz's excuse?...they were the same team....they actually lost a game by 1 point smdh..in a rematch?...give me a break...of these 7 times to be the only one not to win a ring is sad....they were the 60's lakers lol...and 2017-2018 cavs of their time...and 02-03 nets

Don't let Stockton's athleticism fool you of how great he was. Dude can shoot, pass, steal, and he was a great teammate. He's pretty clutch as well. Definitely top 5 pg for sure

@@loganh7843 That's not the point. The point is most of his passes were very very basic. Not ones most players cannot spot like you regularly saw with Nash, Kidd and CP3 and LeBron today. Not only that the system he played in made look much him look much better than he really was. He never even averaged half those assists before the system was put in place during his first few years at the Jazz. Also in College he was more a scorer that could actually shoot pretty well.

Stockton is the career leader in two of the five statistical categories in NBA History.
@GNB And played in Utah, the league's smallest market. A market that had a low payroll. A market that couldn't even get Derek Harper to report after they traded for him.
But, hey, Magic Johnson playing on loaded teams in one of the biggest markets obviously points to his superiority as an individual talent.

@Jared Taylor Stockton was certainly better than Magic in the 1988 playoffs, where he outplayed him over a 7 game series.
The Lakers escaped, but that returns to the point: Magic played on loaded teams in a massive market.
If individual performance dictated outcome, then Magic's play against Stockton in 1988 should have led to LA being eliminated.
@Jared Taylor As far as skillset, Stockton was better than Magic in: shooting, especially from range, quickness/first step, defensive ability (a blowout) and arguably passing/ballhandling.
Certainly the numbers support all of this, including the ballhandling/passing numbers that show Stockton was a full assist better on A/TO ratio, even while 1) playing with much lesser overall talent outside of Malone and 2) spending the majority of his career in halfcourt sets, rather than the wider, easier lanes that Magic enjoyed in the open court thanks to Showtime and overall roster talent.
The reason these subjects aren't discussed is because Magic is treated like a figure of worship -- and therefore is never really analyzed as far as skillset -- and Stockton is either ignored or brought up as a figure of derision by lying shills like Stephen A Smith.
But ironically your post drives that home: your entire post amounts to little more than blind worship or Magic, and offhand dismissal of Stockton.

The Jazz in '97 beat The Rockets with Hakeem, Drexler & Barkely who were all the same age as MJ (33-34 yrs old). Then in '98 Jazz swept the Lakers who had 4 All-Stars that season (Shaq, Kobe, Eddie Jones & Nick Van Exel).
They also beat the Spurs in 98 with Duncan and a still-productive Robinson, the only season those guys were more-or-less equals.

Hakeem, Drexler and Barkely didnt age as well as Jordan did tho, especially Hakeem and Barkely so it is completely different to having beat them in their prime.
@@Arthur-yv6px yes they werent in the peak of their primes but they were all All-Stars that season. Barkley was 5th in the NBA with a 23 PER, Hakeem 7th 22.7 PER, Drexlers was 19.9. Hakeem 7th in scoring with 23.2ppg. Barkley 19.2 ppg, 13.5 reb & 4.7 ast. Drexler 18ppg, 6 reb, 5.7 ast, 1.9 stl. They all definitely fell off the next year. They were kinda like the 2012 Celtics. Alot of people thought they would make the finals. They won 57 games and thats with Barkley missing 29 games & Drexler missing 20. They might have been the #1 seed If they played 82 games.
that team took the bulls the distance..in 98 everyone remembers the 54 point game but the other 5 games were so close and in 97 they pushed the bulls in 5 games too...the fact the bulls won 3 games in 97 by a combined 8 and 3 games in 98 by a combined 10 points is nuts in that era from 96-98..the jazz legit lost 6 games by a total of 3 points per game...1 three pointer each...thats so sad

Why. He was an incredibly overrated player that put highly inflated stats based entirely around the system was is in. He also only has the most assists of all time because he made some of the basic passes to Malone throughout his career. He didn't ever make passes that most players couldn't spot.

Outside of the 18 games Stockton missed in 1997, these two missed a COMBINED total of 11 games for injury in 18 seasons of playing together.

Nowadays you couldn’t even touch a guy no more without a foul being called and the narrative that we have a “Better, much improved, and advance medicine, workouts, trainings, and treatments,” and yet it seems like players fall left and right due to injuries. Add in the fact that players LOVE to “Load manage” too nowadays and yet they STILL get injured lol.

but majerle was younger more physical and athletic, and they had already signed ainge so the thinking was danny could offset some of jeff's shooting, made sense at the time

As an lakers fan and someone who takes pride in being a role player when i played ball (Boards, defense, hustle, and screens) Solid smart great screens...nothing dirty...simple back screens an opponent cant see coming. The best is when you lay someone out on a screen they dont see coming. Love it, 90's basketball

Stockton is underrated because the league is always about scoring and athleticism. Stockton wasnt the most spectacular player. He was just effective... maybe more so than any other player. And that shows in the Jazz' record for about 20 years.... they are consistantly great. Isiah was great but why on earth would I take him on point over Stockton when Stockton is better in almost every important stat but scoring... plus he was a great teammate, selfless and had a crazy high basketball IQ... I actually think he could have scored a lot more with his great shooting skills but it just wasnt necessary because they played so effective... they just took the easy high percentage plays.
90's Bball is next level. Think how great Lebron is, how crazy the splash brother are...Kobe. MJ and the bulls were legendary. Wish i was older so that i could fully appreciate thier run.

Rodman was a really good roleplayer. He played good defense but had no offense and his rebounds were considerably less in the playoffs. Also Pippen was injured for much of 1998

Pretty hard contact indeed, but come on, it was Isiah Thomas. Not like the dude had spent years at that point having it coming from someone or another...it just happen to be a planet named Karl Malone. In that era of NBA basketball, if you went inside the lane to the basket, you may get hit or you may not, but more than likely you were going to get hit. Being the player that Isaiah was, he should have known this. Knowing how he is, I'm sure he did and probably did it on purpose to try and start a brawl or something to that effect.

Actually, people forget the Jazz had one more solid chance to win a championship in '99 when Jordan was retired and the Bulls got broken up. They finished tied with the Spurs for the NBA's best record again in that lockout shortened season but then inexplicably were upset in the second round by a much younger and inexperienced Portland Trail Blazers team. Incredibly frustrating to watch for Jazz fans like myself in those days...
karl was MVP again that year too. Kind of the forgotten MVP year of that decade.
the jazz came very close to forcing game 7 in both finals vs the bulls. the bulls used MJ as a decoy, anticipating the double team... and it was kerr who hit the game winner, followed by the pippen steal, and the kukoc dunk... in 98, when stockton hit the 3 with just over half a minute left, MJ quickly drove past russell for a layup to cut the jazz lead to 1, then stole the ball from malone, and hit the GW shot over russell, scoring 45 of the bulls' 87 pts. that is why MJ is still the #1 goat. he can score more than half the team's points and WIN.

Just like MJ told Payton in 94, that he would win a ring with Pippen(in the almost Pippen for Kemp trade) because he makes EVERYONE around him better.
Heck, we could have seen Jordan “carry” the bulls to a ring in 98 without Pip. IF, Jordan hadn’t “vetoed” the draft night trade of Pippen for Tracy MacGrady.
I recently watched the full 1991 series between Chicago and Detroit and was surprised how subpar Michael was offensively compared to his usual self, I actually thought Scottie was the better player in that series. Scottie was having a great series in 1998 Finals but had an awful Game 5&6
@@cjwrench07 Pippen was no more than solid 2nd option on a multiple Championship winning team. He only ever proved 1 season of been truly solid without him at the Bulls which was the 93/94 season. But even then he was average in the 2nd round of the playoffs against the Knicks. The following season he wasn't able to come close to replicating that very impressive form which also happened to be the season Horace Grant left to join Shaq and Penny in Orlando. Funny that. Was he important, absolutely. But that was more so during the 1st 3 peat with Horace Grant and BJ Armstrong. During the 2nd 3 peat however he was a huge liability offensively during the playoffs. That is why Kukoc was so important as the 6th man coming off the bench. At the end of the day he wasn't ever a player you build a Championship winning team around.

They only came out of the West twice though so you can't blame it on MJ, 90 had a weaker western conference than most of the 80s and 2000s. Even if he wasn't against MJ in the final, he could still lose the final. Especially when your superstar, Karl Malone, shoots worse in the playoffs.

Hornacek was most DEFINITELY not overrated. Quite the opposite. Go take a look at his stats in Phoenix, Philly and Utah. The man should have gotten way more acclaim, but he wasn’t exciting, so he was not a fan favourite.

Respect My mind yeah me too I feel like part of the reason the show apparently didn’t reach the ratings espn were looking for is because high noon was somewhat of a younger version of pti and having them both on the air at the same time instead of having high noon replace pti was a mistake. Even though I enjoyed both shows at about the same level I feel like the similarities when it came to the format of the shows kept some people from tuning in consistently because they would rather stick to watching tony and michael debate instead of bomani and pablo

John Stockton was arguably the SMARTEST player ever in NBA history, and people say the 90s were not great competition to Jordan and Bulls, well i have to say this, any 90s team the Bulls met in The Finals, save for The Injured Lakers of 1991, would beat the 2010´S Warrior´s or the 2012-14 miami Heat , or The lebron 2016 Cavs. Just look: Utah Jazz 1997-98 , Malone, Stockton, great passing team, savy, very intelligent players in the roster, Sonics Payton AND kEMP were Freaks, Kemp>>>>>Bucks Giannis, Payton best defensive Point Guard EVER, Suns were loaded with talent, Barkley, Majerle, Kevin Johnson was terrific, Blazers stacked team, Dexler was awesome, Porter, Kersey, even the Lakers in 1991 despite the injuries, were a fantastic team, The most versatile player ever Magic Johnson, Worthy, Byron Scott , Perkins, etc...The 90s were tough indeed!.AND LETS NOT FORGET other amazings teams like the Pacers with Reggie Miller, Mark Jackson, Dale and Antonio Davis, Jalen Rose; The tough Knicks with Ewing, Starks, Mason, Oakley, latter with Allan Houston, Larry Johnson or Sprewell they were really, really great and tough, The Spurs David Robinson, he was a great legend during the 90s, The Rockets with Hakeem Olajuwon, Horry, Kenny Smith, this team was JUST CLUTCH, The Magic with a great lineup with Penny, Shaq, Nick Anderson, Horace Grant, as you can tell the 90s were far from weak, defenses back then were tougher, todays nba just can not compare with the 90s!PERIOD!
