The Canon R7C could possibly be on its way with a really powerful sensor and excellent low light performance. This would supplement the Canon R7 and possibly an entry level cinema camera that will compete with the Sony FX30.

I don’t think Canon would call it an R7C if they changed the sensor. But I would not be surprised if they came out with a camera with a global shutter. I think the R1, or whatever they end up naming their true flagship model, will have a true global shutter and no mechanical shutter. This is the next thing coming on the camera front and I think Canon wants to own it first. Making it work on a crop sensor will be easier too, I think.

The "problem", you and a lot of other peoples have, is, that you want all features from a 20.000$+ cinema camera in a 2.000$ camerabody. If you are buying a 2.000$ camera, it has only technology for 2.000$ in it. Also, if the cheap and tiny DSLM cameras would be that good as a 20.000$+ cinema camera, the big expensive ones wouldn´t exist anymore. (my last check today: 200.000$ camera sets EXIST!) The expensive cameras will ALWAYS be better...that´s why you pay a fortune for them. Just save your money for an expensive one, and THEN you will get the features you want.
Oh, and big expensive cameras aren´t big, to impress other peoples...that size is a necessity. That´s not toys...like the consumer cameras.

Have you seen the new Panasonic S5II or the Sony FX30? Because both are 2000 or lower with a ton of features. Things change as time moves on. Canon is stuck in the past.

@@MichaelWTurner Canon isn´t "stuck in the past"...for them, the professional range of cameras is "starting" at 5.000$...and everything below is for the consumer market. That´s just pricepolitics and not a technological issue.
The other brands are just luring users with cheaper products into their system. But if you are there, you will find the "real" stuff, which is much more expensive as the "entry" level stuff, they are throwing on the market.
Panasonic and Sony are also selling cameras over 50.000$. And there is a reason, that this cameras still exists.

It doesn’t matter how expensive the camera is, what matters is the content you create. Yes there are cameras that cost as much as a house deposit, but no one should be so carried away by that because there’s a threshold for image quality before it doesn’t matter to people anymore, but creativity has no limits. So if people can benefit from creating something good with less money , that is something people should be proud of. It is not a ‘problem’, It is why this industry evolve.

Are this sensors for mirror less or for camcorders or cinema cameras? Most low MP sensors are for camcorders, but Super35 or Full Frame format or not for camcorders. But your main problem with your argumentation about future cameras is that Canon always cripple video in their DSLR or mirrorless, forcing you to buy expensive bodies. So this strategy has not changed in 25 years I was a Canon customer and it will not change. The only issue with you way of thinking is that you think Canon thinks like Sony. Canon has no real Cinema Camera under 5000 USD, but Sony has the F30 which drops under 3000 USD. This means Sony is aggressive in introducing bodies creating a new customer base. Canon strategy was always protective to product lines. Canon never had introduce a crop sensor video capable camera as the GH5 nor they had introduce something like the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema lines who use Canon EF glass. You get my point with Canon regarding pushing video at lower prices. It isn’t what they like and find it annoying what Sony, Panasonic and Blackmagic Design is doing. It is Canon arrogance and behavior. The canon 5C is more a reaction about the changing market introduced by others. Canon is not a game changer on video on lower price point. Blackmagic Design, Sony and Panasonic are pointing a gun at Canon heads to change. Canon can easily create a APS-c killer of the GH6 with video spec, but they don’t seem interested.

No mention if it is mirrorless or cinema but most likely cinema because of the low megapixel count. You're right about everything you said.

This is why I left Canon. You get left with this impression that they cripple their lineup to upsale you to get the features you want. I would have been stoked for the r7 but the lack of rf-s glass and the fact that they never give you pro -s glass with BASIC pro features like weather sealing or constant aperture zooms (last one I know of was released in 2006). So you're forced to buy RF glass which is expensive and then doesn't have practical zoom ranges like a 24-70 is now a 38.4-112 giving you no wide end or you use a 16-35 and get 25.6-56 and both are very expensive.
Then there's Panasonic. All of their lenses have weather sealing. All of them are corrected for minimal focus breathing. Their sigma ef-L adapter gives you comparable performance to the canon R series with AF on the s5ii. They give you all the features on the base model only withholding certain pro features like raw recording. On the s5 which is like $1000 used now, you've got waveforms, vectorscope, v-log, 4k 60, etc. and it's weather sealed with two card slots.
If canon had a more generous spirit to their customers and gave these features and made some decent glass options for apsc, I'd probably have an r7 already. Instead I'm waiting on my s5ii preorder because Panasonic is actually working to attract sales instead of resting on their brand popularity

Agree. Canon makes it look like they offer great gear for videographers but that’s not the case in their mirrorless lineup. I almost bought and R5 or R6 2 years ago but was glad I didn’t after seeing what a pain in the ass they are for video. Tom Holland did a great video on that. In therms of image quality the S5 beats the R5 in every way, including their “skintones”.

      1. RF glass isn´t made for video. Cinema lenses are. 2. it´s mind bogling, that you HAVE the money for an expensive camerabody, but you are "struggling", to get a decent lens for that expensive camerabody.

As far as I understand it, the current global shutters that canon is developing are meant for commercial drones and not for cinematography. I may be mixing the sensors up but I don’t believe so.
