- Concluding what is left of my Saturday morning archive, the closing moments of the very last Live & Kicking back in 2001 which, although it continued in different guises, was to many the end of BBC Saturday morning kids telly!

RIP CBBC Live & Kicking
2 October 1993-15 September 2001
8 years, 9 seasons and 256 episodes
I remember watching this very last part of Live and Kicking when I was 9, I remember Steps performing they were my most favourite band at the time and they still are x x x
They were great!
Rip to a legend
IF YOU MISSED IT
YOU JUST MISSED OUT...on a moment of television history
The last show was a lot better than I was expecting. Especially considering BBC Scotland only produced the show for a few months over the summer so had no real need to celebrate it's past, but they really went all-out in digging out the old presenters and clips.
I agree with you there putthetellyon, this definitly signalled the end of saturday morning telly on the beeb. such a shame.
That was the worst week in live and kicking fans life and just four days after 9/11
I remember watching this very last part of Live and Kicking when I was 14, but I can't remember Steps performing, even though they were my favourite band at the time.
Loved live and kicking !!! My childhood
I don't have the opening but I have various other clips from the final show which I hope to upload but only if a lot of people want to see them (as to be honest, the final series was pants!)
This is my childhood!. :D
This was my child hood, end of an era
I didn't mind the song to be honest (although yes Steps was very 'of it's time'). They should have finished the show at the end of the song..the leprechauns reappearing at the end kind of spoilt the mood and perhaps have all the presenters past and present saying "missed it? missed out" but it ended well i guess. Thanks for subscribing btw.
i actually cried.
Important to point out that the leprechauns and Mitch only reappeared on this final show, they were dumped at the start of the final series. I'm pretty sure Mitch's bits were all pre-recorded too.
Although it was a bit crap to go out on a Steps song, the best bits are very well edited into it, representing pretty much everyone who had appeared on the show on a regular basis.
The Steps song was so appropriate though wasn't it? I think Mitch was possibly live but not neccessarily from Glasgow but because of the format of that series he might not have seemed live, although the Leps were recorded as were all the other ex-presenters. Ortis told me there was a bit of politics involved in getting the previous presenters back live.
I'd already bowed out of Saturday morning telly pretty much by the end of the Zoe and Jamie era anyway and I guess if I watched telly it would be SM:TV like pretty much everyone else around that time. I decided to record this purely because it was the last edition. Hard to believe already it was nearly 10 years ago!
Make that 22 years ago.
No, The Saturday Show took over with Joe Mace and Dani Behr.
The thing is, when I watch this back, as much as I miss it, I do somehow feel that perhaps it was a show that belonged in the 90s. Going too far into the new millenium with it may have been a bit of a struggle. Saying that, perhaps it's the fact the show was axed that makes me feel it was it's time to go. If it had continued perhaps it wouldn't seem so strange
Whats that program Ant and Dec used to do on a Saturday morning before CDUK? When that finished a part of me died.
SM:TV
Dude I so agree with your coments about the end of Saturday Mornings. I will admit that by 2001 I was pretty much out of the Saturday Morning TV fold [I was enjoying Channel 5 shows such as Hercules and Xena and the Tribe] But I know how u must have felt. I thought Live and Kicking was the perfect replacement for Going Live and did its job amazingly. Saturday mornings [dont know what u think dude] r shit now. Just like Kerrang radio with out our Tim. Happy days long since gone from TV
i can see why this was axed- the presenting wasn't up to scratch!
it was horrible andy peters emma were best so jamie and zoe did grar job but them last four presnter were terrible
Truely the end of Saturday morning TV both BBC & ITV
Indeed soon after it ended Ant and Dec left SMtV and it too went into a ratings tailspin, only this time there was nothing on the BBC.
A very sad day when they decided to stop making this, although I felt it lost its appeal quite abit after Zoe & Jamie left. This was a special era and makes me think of my childhood, only seems like yesterday it left our screens but its nearly 10 years ago quite spooky!! Saturday morning tv nowadays is just awful, I hope they could bring this back but in the a way it just wouldnt work now it was a very 90's thing, the vibe just wouldnt work on the new generation of kids and young families!
agree last edtion was crap when these 4 came destroid the show..
can you post the opening of the last ever live and kicking please.
Zoe n Jamie were the best
when did ant and dec start up on itv where they not the main reason this went tits up?
3:53 I wonder whether this will happen to me etehr tomorrow or thursday,
YAY Steps :D
I thought the replacement was Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow.
With Zoe ball and Jamie thinkstone
What's the one that Andi Peters did??
This one.
ive just been tricked into listening to a steps song, god the music was shit in 2001
SMTV Live
@emokidx555 A bit harsh...
So sad 8yhs people the biggest show bbc ever done
worst edtion when these four came they runied the show ..
The only reason the BBC made Live and Kicking because ITV made SMTV Live so this was a cheaper and a rip off to SMTV Live and SMTV finished in 2001 so the BBC closed L&K because the rivalry finished
Actually, Live and Kicking started in 1993. SMTV didn't start until 1998 and ended in 2003.
