  • Why in the hell would a biker chick date a guy who doesn't ride? It's the shock I see on many faces when they find out I am now married to someone who doesn't ride anymore. I forget it can be odd, since to me and many of my girlfriends, it's normal. Here's why your Doodle is with a cager, and some stories of other torque queens dating someone on four wheels. Prepare for your mind to be blown :"D Thanks for watching my talk show.

My wife wants nothing to do with bikes, knows nothing about bikes and I like it like that. Whenever I get a new bike, she asks, is that a new bike? I say, no, I just painted it.

Funny how we share (or don’t share) each other’s passions. I was a graphic designer (and car enthusiast) and worked with a woman who’s daughter was having car troubles. I felt sorry for her daughter and offered to fix her car for her. She insisted that I TEACH HER to fix the car, instead. The girl for me, I laughed! Then as repayment for this lesson she took me to dinner later that week. But what I didn’t know was she had a pilots license and flew me to dinner 200 miles away! Holy cow! Our second date was to the symphony, where she played viola in the orchestra. Unbelievable! I eventually raced and coached high performance driving cars as a hobby, then scuba, and then I took up motorcycles. She has participated in all of this with me. She’s not one to sit on the sidelines. Oh, and we decided to get married after knowing each other for only a few weeks. And all these many years later we are still going strong.

Having separate interests and hobbies is great for a healthy relationship. If a woman loves to paint, or knit, or skateboard (etc), but her SO doesn’t, it’s just downright absurd to say that means the relationship won’t work. What other people think doesn’t matter. After all, relationships aren’t ruled by committee. 😉 You’re happy and you found a good guy. Period. ❤️

I’m a woman (46), I ride, & my husband doesn’t, he never has & never will. I started riding right after we got married (we were together for 6 years when we got married), & now I’m a MSF instructor as my side gig (I’ve been riding 6 years). I go on motorcycle vacations w out him, & this totally works for us. We have things in common that we do together, but we enjoy our own interests

I started riding when I was 13, off road until 18. Got my motorcycle license and been riding ever since. I am from Australia. I rode in New Zealand for 2 years, 6 years in the UK and in Europe and 5 years in Canada and the US. My husband has never ridden. I tried to get him interested when we were dating many years ago. I say he is married to Scouts and the Scouting movement. I stopped riding for around 10 years while I had young children and then back on the bike. I am now 70 years old and a motorcycle riding instructor. My husband and I are still happily married. He has no issues with who I ride with, where I ride and how long I might be away riding with my friends touring the country. Really enjoying your UA-cam channel and admire the success you have on UA-cam. When I think of all the footage I have from my many journeys on my motorcycle, where would I have been earlier if there was UA-cam, Instagram etc. Thanks heaps, I am still learning and practicing my motorcycle skills.

Aww, that's awesome. Congrats on getting marrried! Still closer to 50 than 60, I'm a lifelong rider ( Honda Z50 when I was 8) and my girlfriend has a Triumph Tiger. I helped her find it and rode it home for her on a very windy day 3 years ago across some long wet windy Bay Area bridges that were shut down for wind gusts right after I got through the tolls. Countersteering and Zen soft hands, getting blown around like a kite. I was laughing all the way. So much fun.
Enjoy riding. I gave it up for a short while when my daughters were young. The big one is in college, and I'm well insured, so I've been back at it on a 2010 Multistrada 1200S since 2013. Stay humble, never stop learning, and share...which you do. You are going to hang it up for a while if you have kids, but don't fret, that is a wild ride - and a blessing beyond description - all its own.

My girlfriend just showed me this vlog and I have to say, it’s really nice to get someone else’s perspective on this. This is a great reminder that absolutely every part of you doesn’t have to align exactly with your partner to be a perfect fit and happy. As long as you share the same core values and appreciate each other and each other’s passions and individualism, it can all be good. Thanks for sharing your experience in being someone who loves riding, but is with someone that doesn’t ride! :)

He loves it! I love it!! Best hobby every. He have his group of riding buddies and I have some girls to.

Nice to see more ladies out there riding without their significant other. I started riding motorcycles after I got married and my husband won't even sit on one. I think he was shocked at first, but has now come to a place of acceptance. I commute with my bike a lot, and really enjoy my outings with riding buddies. There's a part of me that wishes my husband rode motorcycles, but a part of me also enjoys the time I can have with my riding friends who might feel like third wheels if my husband was to come along for the ride too. So I have come to accept that my husband won't share in this with me, but it can be a time I can value with my friends.

Hi Doodle! I’ve been watching you for about a year and this is the first time I have to say that I can relate to you about something so important to me.
I am engaged to a wonderful man who also does not ride and has no interest in trying to learn, I think because of a horrid car accident he was in when he was 8. I too used to wonder in the beginning of our relationship, if I would be able to take this when it gets more serious and the answer so far is, yes! The main reason is because we get along so well and have a very happy/healthy relationship. He totally respects my love for the hobby and he has said he would try dirt biking someday, so I’m truly excited for that :) And lucky for me when I rented the Honda Shadow in Mexico, he was comfortable to ride on the back and he said, “I can see why you enjoy riding, it’s very therapeutic” 😁
I just wanted to share that some of those women and you are not alone in this!

I tried to encourage my wife to learn how to ride, but she was happier being a passenger on the back. We share so much else in common and we can talk for hours. Yes, it would nice if she did know how to ride, but considering how much we have in common, it isn't even an issue for me. She's at the age where her knees are giving her a hard time getting on and off my bike (2022 BMW R1250RT). My previous bikes were cruiser style bikes, lower to the ground which made mounting and dismounting much easier. I hope your marriage has as much fun and love as mine and Lori's has had these past, soon to be 25 years! Love your videos! So interesting to see riding from a female perspective!

Not odd to me. My wife took the Basic Rider Course over 20 years ago, completed/passed, realized she *hated* the slow-speed balance issues that bikes have, and hasn't ridden since. She understands what I love about riding and supports what I want to do 100%. She has hobbies I don't enjoy, and I support her doing those the same way. (Aurora photography? Why would someone go out in the middle of the night, in winter, *in Alaska*, and take pictures? :-) )

Congrats on getting married! My wife doesn’t ride, but she’ll ride two-up with me occasionally. My current dilemma is that my grand-daughters are bugging me like crazy to learn how to ride. I want to teach them, but their mother (my daughter) hasn’t quite come around to it (but she might be ever-so-slowly warming up to it). I just tell them that as long as their mom is okay with it, then I will (their dad is okay with it). Personally, I’m really hoping their mom comes around. If that day comes, I’m steering them to (among others) your videos. You’re a great inspiration.

I'm new into riding, but I think this thought applies to other passions as well. As a girl practicing intense sports (downhill mtb, climbing, off-piste snowboarding, etc.) sometimes it was quite intimidating for some guys to talk to me about their hobbies. We each have different hobbies and interests, and occasional we ride together, but often we each ride by ourselves. Before I got hitched, the priest asked me what I thought made a good long term marriage. My answer: separate TV’s. He asked why, I said because we can’t always do the same things and be together all the time because that would make us bored of each other. Variety is the spice of life and keeps a marriage interesting. You need your own ‘things’ along with your together things! Been married 19 years...and wouldn’t change a thing.

My wife was always curious why I love riding. So in 2014, she started joining my rides as a passenger from time to time and thought it was fun and finally understood me. In 2018, she got tired of pillon riding and decided it’s finally time to ride on her own. At the time I had 3 bikes and after taking a couple of moto courses, she sequestered one of my bikes, a Ducati monster 796 and made it HER bike. Now she’s giving me back the monster ‘cause she saw the Triumph Street Triple RS at a dealership that just opened in our city and wants to buy it. Since before the pandemic, I was planning to upgrade my 2017 Multistrada into a V4 once the new models reach our dealership. Now they’re here, but I will have to wait a little longer because she has to upgrade first and I can’t afford 2 new bikes in 1 year. Having your spouse riding also has its cons.

I think a lot about what if I date someone that doesn't have much or anything important in common with me. It would be nice to share activities with someone so I think having at least a few activities to share with someone is important, but at the same time if you get along splendidly with the other person, they will probably try to include themselves in something you're interested in or try to find something to share that can be that thing(s) that you do together. If I'm only watching movies, eating food, and going on a couple vacations a year with someone, that doesn't feel like enough in common. Dirt riding is very different to road riding. Definitely take a class. I did and it improved my riding on dirt so much. Still not the greatest off road, but have enough knowledge to get me through.

Damn right Doodle. Again, congratulations to you and Cody. I know I saw a video of HTW's and Jess' Mom was actually PO'd that Jess got into it as it was something she always wanted to do herself but, for whatever reason, hadn't. In my own situation, I'm actually opposed to having a relationship right now (divorce related PTSD), that I'm not even considering riding 2 up with anyone. But that's me. I also think it's important not to share all interests with a significant other. I've actually broken up with ex-gf's if they lost all sense of themselves to "adopt" all of my interests or expected me to abandon my interests and/or friends in favor of theirs. Be your own person.

congrats again on getting married! this was a super good topic for a video! for me it's just easier to date someone that rides because you know they won't try to stop you (at least for the time being). I had dated someone who didn't ride and he was so insecure and wanted me to stop, so i stopped dating him lol.

They don’t need to ride, they just need to be confident! If Kody wasn’t confident and encouraging of me riding, I wouldn’t have been interested in him in the first place.

Here is how you work it - my wife doesn't ride but we plan riding trips together - she becomes my sweep car carrying tools, food, etc., with agreement on the destination and route. It could be a picnic, restaurant, or attraction. We've done this for years a nice way to share a road trip.

My partner of five years has no desire to ride a bicycle let a alone a moto. I love riding on my own after work or meeting up with fellow riders to enjoy my expensive hobby. I am blessed that she insisted I not sell my 48 when I purchased my Street Glide. I am very lucky to have a supportive partner who loves to open the garage door when she hears me up the street. Congrats on your marriage!

Very healthy relationship when you have things you enjoy doing together and things you do separately.
It would be interesting to see you do a trip together that combines off road cycling and back woods camping.
Mix of both types of motorcycling.

I use to ride for years and was married x 20 years and she didn't ride, what was a red flag is whenever I wanted to ride, she would say.. I was taking time away from us.... Divorced now for quite awhile, my gf and I are pretty serious , but red flags.... she does not want me to get a motorcycle and says the same adding that she is ANGRY if I don't respect her opinion and by getting a motorcycle, according to her, I am disrespecting her opinion and her opinion doesn't seem to matter.... CONTROL and INSECURITY issues can destroy a relationship and it is very very very hard to find someone who has the SAME INTERESTS!! Live your Life for YOU and be with someone who understands and respects your hobbies. I will probably be single very very very SOON!

I have been riding motorcycles for 41 years and my spouse (then girlfriend) was my first "Queen" seater on my 1980 Yamaha 650 Special. She got her license about 5 years ago but is hesitant to ride in the heavy traffic we have here in the most densely populated state (New Jersey). Tough to blame her for that. She has no problem with me riding although, since I am 67 years old she does worry a little for my safety. I ride a Harley Heritage Softail which, at 750 pounds (wet) can be a little tough for me to maneuver when I "duck walk" it. I'll stop if it gets really bad but I'm okay for now.

Both me and my partner share a lot of hobbies and interests (riding, shooting and music) but also have some separate ones. She is an epic guitarist, I can't play a note. I build cars and bikes for fun, but she doesn't. We share enough to be able to enjoy a lot of time together, but also have things we can do separately too when we need the alone time.
I don't think I know more than a couple of women IRL who ride whose partners don't - but it's refreshing to see more and more online.
And of course congrats on getting hitched!

1st of all - congrats🎉👫. I love riding & enjoy long day rides (think 350-450 miles🤭). My hubby enjoys riding, but he needs a purpose and a destination, whereas I love to ride just to ride😂. We do so many other things together such as diving , rock climbing, & mtn biking, so it’s totally good👍

I am pretty luck as my wife rides and has done for most of her adult life, we also have a lot of the same friends, but she does have her own interests and its doesn't cause any problems. We have been married for 31 years and been together for 35 years, although her riding a bike was one of main things that I liked about her when we first met.

Congratulations. It's OK if someone's SO doesn't ride as long as there's enough other things in common it's all good. For me in a few cases I got " It's either me or the bike". I'm planning or riding down the East Coast this summer. Maybe I can buy you and your husband a cup of coffee or whatever. It would be a pleasure to meet both of you. And get your calendar autographed. 👍😎

Hi Doodle, a new year beginning, we have vaccines, you're married, and your channel is a huge success, and life is good. I'm sure Cody wouldn't want you to stop riding because he has, so why would you want to stop riding! A silly question, I think it's great that you have different things you each want to do, not live out of each others pockets, but keep your independence, and it shows that you thrive on working hard! You have a common interest in Dirt riding which Cody is more into, and maybe we could see this side of you both in some future videos. You dated Cody as a friend, not as a bike buddy!

It's important for couples to have diverging interests in my opinion. My wife did try all the stuff I was interested in when we first started getting serious (hiking, camping, etc.), but most of it she wasn't interested in, which was fine with me. When it becomes a problem is when one of the partners starts to give the other a hard time about spending time doing those things...maybe that's from over indulgence. You just have to find that balance. My wife and I bought bikes together in the late 90's (had both ridden as kids). I crashed when riding alone, and she never rode again. I got another bike back in '14, a cruiser. She rode on it once and said "no" (after I had added a passenger seat and pegs for her). My crash really turned her off, that and the whole middle age sense of mortality. I upgraded bikes a couple of years ago to a bagger (with a trunk), and it still took me 2 years to get her on it. Now, she rides regularly with me and is considering getting her own bike again. It's fine with me either way. I love having her with me. Get yourself a tourer and have the guy hop on and try it. You could really turn some heads, lol.
