Repairing the first bunch or power tools of 2024. Dewalts, paslodes and makita needing fixed.

  • Welcome to 2024, stock take is over and its time to make a start on this Christmas backlog.
I took an extra week of for Christmas so there is an even bigger backlog now. Luckily less tools get left in before the holidays.
This is just one of 3 paslodes nail guns that where served. I don't like to leave paslode to long as generally, as most trades men need them quickly.
Dewalt nail guns I also try to get out quickly, but it's not always possible. As they require parts that is not always In stock.
I only had a single axis in stock so need to order more now.

Maybe someday I'll get to the point where I can dismantle the machines with wild abandon, toss the parts and screws, and STILL be able to put it back together with no extra parts! You are a master!

I used to service a very commonly used Sony BVW75 broadcast cassette videotape recorder.
After sufficient times of stripping the tape deck mechanism I knew instinctively where everything went.
      Not quite blindfold but almost!
It is just building up familiarity but you also have to understand how everything functions as well.
Dean has developed this skill over many years.
I hope he has someone to pass the knowledge onto.

I'm from Australia and replaced the chuck on my Makita DHP481 a week ago with a Rohm chuck. Initially I tried the method you showed in this video with the 458 to no avail. Mind you, I have replaced a chuck or two in the past, one being a Milwauke M18 using the hammer and allen key method. I also saw your other videos on cutting the chuck off but that was a last resort for me. I then came across a pdf repair guide that mentioned a special jig was required (1R404 or the 1R359) and the need to take the whole gear assembly out from the clamshell. Taking out the gear assembly was no problem. Ploblem was the 1R404 is about 200 Euro. So I decided to get creative instead. The 1R404 removal tool just locks the gears in place and also allows you to clamp the gear assembly in a vice with a jig then using an allen key with a long pole as leverage to remove the chuck. I used the Drill handle (without the depth guide) as my jig and clamped that onto my vice. I then grinded down a spare chuck key I had to match the 1R404-C gear and secured that to the bottom of the gear assembly in the vice to prevent the gears from spinning. Insert allen key into chuck, use metal pole for leverage and it came off so easy. I'm pretty sure you are aware of such removal tool Dean and I would love to see a video as others may also find it useful. I did manage to stumble across a youtube video eventually but took me a while as it was in russian. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/xqV677r4Jug/v-deo.html
    Love you videos Dean.

i have tired this method a few times, but if the chuck is locked on tight, it can damage the spindle when taking it off.
Only the very odd time. but the dewalt especialy i have twisted the spindle shaft itself,

Hi Dean, I cannot get enough of your videos, I enjoy it a lot and learn more every time.
On Monday I saw that my neighbour across the street put out a Genesis DuraVac ZL10-47A-21L Vacuum Cleaner. As Soon as I saw it, I wondered what could be wrong with it. I went to get it and test it, it didn't switch on. I immediately thought that it could be the cable, switch or brushes. The cable and switch were good, but I found that the wire from the field to the brush holder broke off and the brush wire broke off from the brush holder. After I fixed it, cleaned everything and assembled everything, the Vacuum Cleaner worked 100%.
I'm busy making myself a working space in the garage that I am only going to use for fixing or servicing electric appliances.
Thanks a lot for all the tips and keep up with the good work my friend.😂

After seeing so many dewalt guns on your channel, many of which looking brand new, I'm glad I heeded all the warnings on the internet and went with Hitachi instead. Although I was still curious how the flywheel mechanism works and all your videos are the only ones showing them. They are pretty neat from mechanical point of view, but I guess the complexity is their undoing.

That first Paslode likely started with a dirty air filter. Not enough air, fires rich on fuel. Leads to too much carbon. Keeping that filter clean will allow it to run longer between servicings.
