As a young paratroop my cherry blast (first operational jump after Airborne School) was out of a Chinook at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1984. I was terrified…since I was the new guy nobody wanted to jump near me so the jump master put everyone out minus little old me. I wore a helmet painted red to warn the other jumpers I was the new idiot and to avoid me at all cost. Next pass it was my turn and i hooked up and waited for the jump master to order me to go. They call it a million dollar pass because I was the only jumper. I moved to rear of the Chinook and was literally inches from the end of the ramp. It was unlike anything I’d seen in my 18 years of life- the entire world was below me. Jump light turns from red to green and out I go. A few years later I’m the jump master putting out young paratroops on their cherry blast. That was the first of hundreds of Chinook flights for me. What a beautiful, powerful machine. RLTW/DOL.

Many flights in a CH all around Afghanistan 2005. Was in one of those or a C130.
I want to see that howitzer fire at 20,000 feet.
When we got into Afghanistan, this helicopter took us to our fob
Holy shit, I can gladly say I never had to jump out mid flight. Safely landed and walked off the back ramp. Maintenance slugs. 😄
