The Dominion knows how to build a battleship. Although, I kinda feel like this ship should be classified as a super-heavy-battleship simply because it's so big and slow.
Would be interested to see how this ship squares up to a Sovereign Class. Sure it can bully a Defiant but the Enterprise E is a completely different Beast.
My own personal head canon is that jem hadar battleships also serve as mobile bases and contain a small drydock inside them for the construction of jem hadar battle bugs. The battleships purpose is to serve as a type of beach head in a captured territory and begin ship building asap.
Not to be confused with the Battle cruiser. Calls it the BC at least twice within 5 minutes. :) All good Rick. So easily done. My head Canon would say the Battleship is the smaller scale and the Dread is the monstrously huge planetary defence size. In the same vein as Klingon K'Vort looking exactly like their smaller cousins.
I always interpreted the XL Dreadnoughts over Cardassia as a separate, even larger ship class which just happens to look like the regular battleship. Maybe the Dominion simply took the Battleship design and scaled it up by a factor of 5. They might have been intended as orbital genocide platform from the start but were also pretty useful as capital ships for a last stand.

*The reason visual scale is so inaccurate in Star Trek* is because the documentary makers and journalists/historians have to use extreme zoom on their cameras _to get the shots safely._ They position themselves years later so they can record what _had_ happened. But when you're filming something light years away, there's going to occasionally be some distortion in correcting for foreground objects.
I'm a little late but awesome new video Rick. By the way a side note. The only actual member of the Valiant when they attacked that Battleship was Dorian Collins. Every other crew member was killed. Of course naturally Nog and Jake escaped with Dorian. Tim Watters was very foolish to think his small ship could take out such a huge powerhouse of a ship like that. The Valiant was out numbered like what 10-1 with just weaponry alone? I think the battleship knew the Valiant was there all along, detected the sensor probe, hacked it and fed it false information for that "weakness" that the Valiant crew thought they discovered.
Considering the short range of it sensor capabilities, I wonder if it would be possible to utilize a strategy based on 'death of of a thousand photon torpedoes fired just out of sensor range', especially if you can somehow take out or otherwise occupy the escort fleet.
There were Jem'Hadar that were bred specifically for the Alpha Quadrant, following that logic it would make sense that this arena containing far more super powers than the Gamma Quadrant, would have area-specific ship designs as well.
I remember a fleet of these ships guarding Cardassia Prime during the final battle of the Dominion War. I have no idea how the Federation Alliance thought they could defeat them.
There is beta lore that the Scimitar is built on the unfinished hull of one of these, that was captured by Romulan /Reman troops at a ship yard following the battle of Cardassia. I rather like this bit of non canon lore
You could say that. Pretty fair assessment. That said the Technologies are very different. Hyperdrives seem faster than Warp, atleast until Warp 9.2 and beyond was reached. But Star Trek Shields seem fat superior, yet phasers and disruptors can be argued if they are more or less powerful than Turbolasers. So interesting indeed!
@@matthewcaskey1051 100% agree the tech is different, in some cases not even comparable. I've got a model of the Advanced version of these on my desk, was expensive and the company that made it sucks. its a nice model, but they forgot to ship it for MONTHS until i reminded them. i still love the design of both of these.
I have an alternate take: I like to think of these ships as ancient siege ships that prowl Dominion space. They are old and venerable and meant to hold territory. Cruisers and Attack ships are intended to take the systems. The Batttleship is intended to hold it. The wormhole mine delayed the Dominion from moving these ships into the Alpha Quandrant thus forcing the Dominion to construct their siege ships to allow them to follow through with their strategy. This is why it doesn't seem like they tested it. Its been tested and they work. Just my thoughts.
It would have been interesting to pit this against the NeghVar. DITL suggests rough parity between the battleship + battlecruiser vs 2 Negh'Var class ships.
Another lovely ship from the Dominion! Makes up for the fighter and then some! The task force that came through the wormhole was only really intended to be a vanguard. That is why they faced such problems after the wormhole was closed to them. Who knows how many of these behemoths were waiting in their own part of the galaxy. Perhaps thousands... This scale of capital ship is more like something you would see in Wars, not Trek. It would therefore require the same type of highly automated and highly organised social structure to supply and support it. Likely the Dominion had exactly that and the Vorta are probably far more efficient organisers and administrators than the Galactic Senate ever was. In fact I wonder if the Borg tangled with them and then decided to put conquest of the the Founders onto the back burner until other, less troublesome civilisations were assimilated? It could well be as with other cultures that contact with the Borg led to the evolution of an immensely powerful generation of ships to counter them, even if they were held only as paper battleships until they were specifically required.
They built 27 during the war huh 😮🤔 Considering how enormous the ship is, these were flying out of dock. And the other 700+ other ships built at the same time. 😅 Such efficiency! 😄
Theory; the different design languages between the Attack Fighters and the Dominion Capital Ships is similar to the different design languages between the Defiant and Saber classes, and the standard Primary and Secondary hulls with nacelles on pylons that Starfleet uses. If looking in the Gamma Quadrant, it may well be that all their larger ships use a similar paradigm. Prehaps the Bugship was even based on a original ship from the time before the Founders co-opted and modified the Jem'Hadar? The different layouts are from different species?
This reminds me of the Yamamoto class from WWII... Insanely destructive with huge guns but realtively slow, uncomprimising and vulnerable to swarm tactics from agile opponents. It requires escort ships to make up for its weaknesses.
You say the Defiant was designed to take a hammering by a Borg cube, but wasn't the design spec to send 6-12 of them at once? Or sprinkle them in with a wider fleet, as we saw in _First Contact?_ It's not _that_ surprising that a single one, which had been needing a resupply for months, would struggle on its own.
NGL the Dominion is that Esoteric if not Dangerous, Especially being the galactic Power of the Gamma Quadrant for who knows how long the Federation or The Klingons or other known Factions known them.
I like to think it's an old design, like most dominion stuff but they keep a few mothballed incase a force attacks dominion space and the attack ships and battlecrusiers aren't enough. I think in the lost dominion arc of STO that fleet had some
I don't recall. The Dominion was --- Dominant in the Gamma Quadrant. They wiped everything out over there? No neighbouring Quadrants really gave them any trouble?
I always wondered what would happen if the Federation just made the defiant as big as the enterprise galaxy class. Would it be as agile and powerful as the original?
There must have been two different versions of this ship, the one in the episode Valiant, and the other version depicted in the penultimate episode of DS9.
Starfleet should have get one of these after the war and place in in earth orbit, just in case the "only ship in range (aka Enterprise)" isn't there to protect earth
they have it the achille class was build to successfully counter both the dominion battleship and the superdreadnought cardassian hutet, to give some spec 8 pulse cannons, several phaser array, 6 rapid fire quantum launcher, and dorsal arrays of burs fire micro quantum capable to cripple the biggest target with their sheer number despite individually are weaker , redundancies built everywhere with 2 warp core, dual shielded and ablative armour , 4 total warp nacelle(2 on pylon and 2 imbedded in the after saucer , same for impulse to assure it can go back home eve when crippled , in the lore the prototype alone hade the highest kill counted with 2 ketracel facility destroyed and 12 wings of galor/battlecruiser defence vessel obliterated
So they probably should have called the battle cruiser simply the dominion cruiser. So I am going to this battleship the dominion Juggernaut class, the cruiser I would the Madicore or something like that. I noticed around 4min 45 you called the Battleship the Battlecruiser, really they need to get rid of battle in the mid size ship as demonstrates it makes it too confusing.
If it’s not under the command of shenzon (the Picard clone) then I think the dominion battleship takes it, it’s a brute of sheer power but shenzon had the tactical ability to match Picard and overpower several romulan warships. The Schindler may possibly be outmatched straight up but shenzon shows experience makes the difference.
If only STO would have created full interiors for these ships like they did Romulan, Klingon, and Starfleet...instead of the generic bridges and interiors
Ok, but WHY does a dedicated battleship staffed exclusively by disposable cloned soldiers need so many windows all over its hull? Those are structural weaknesses and wholly unnecessary. Even the bridges of Dominion ships are located deep within the hull (as they damn well should!) and windowless. So who are those windows for?
Exactly my thought 💭! I would like to see both scenarios- the first encounter between Dominion and Borg later one when both factions had time to adapt.
@@The_Str4nger But the Dominion also showed adaptability in the past, for example when dealing with cloaked ships. Or they do suicide runs with capital ships… Or bio weapons…
Since when Defiant had similar power to Galaxy? when it barely draw even vs a excelsior refit USS Lakota (both werent using torps). This statement would make any reason as that would mean that Excelsior class after refit was as powerfull as Lakota. Also Defiant got down fast after few short hits from a cube... It didnt tank much. But other parts do seem OK :)
The Defiant’s power level vs other ships is wildly inconsistent across the length of the show. (Though the Lakota had been retrofitted to be much stronger than an Excelsior should have been and the Defiant still came out on top in spite of being sucker punched) The episode Valiant itself is one of the best examples of this. The initial battle which crippled the Valiant and killed its officers was against a Cardassian warship. 3 years earlier Tom Riker scoffed at 3 Cardassian Warships posing a credible threat to the Defiant, which Kira seemed to buy

@xaviermontalban717 For when your villain faction has an equally trash ideology. :P
star trek is a precursor to star wars btw
They built 27 during the war huh 😮🤔 Considering how enormous the ship is, these were flying out of dock. And the other 700+ other ships built at the same time. 😅 Such efficiency! 😄
I'd love to see this puppy go up against a Borg cube. The Borg would win hands down, but I think the Jem'Hadar would make them work for it
Theory; the different design languages between the Attack Fighters and the Dominion Capital Ships is similar to the different design languages between the Defiant and Saber classes, and the standard Primary and Secondary hulls with nacelles on pylons that Starfleet uses.
If looking in the Gamma Quadrant, it may well be that all their larger ships use a similar paradigm.
Prehaps the Bugship was even based on a original ship from the time before the Founders co-opted and modified the Jem'Hadar?
The different layouts are from different species?
It looks so cool
I wonder if the founders themselves designed the ships or just left it to the Vorta?
They should have found out and used the Dominion shipbuilding for ST Picard .( they produced more ships faster )
I þought þis was an instruction video on how to take over any given solar system.
Yup they knew how to build them like slayer doesn't have to do sound at live shows
NGL the Dominion is that Esoteric if not Dangerous, Especially being the galactic Power of the Gamma Quadrant for who knows how long the Federation or The Klingons or other known Factions known them.
That thing was a Leviathan of a war ship. I'm half amazed the Dominion never built anything bigger! Because they could.
please do the Borg queen's ship, aka the Borg Diamond, next
So how about Star Trek Online's Heritage Starship Bundle? I remember those ships from back in the day when those games first came out, Oh boy!
The dominion battleship is often used as a command ship of dominion battle groups.
I like to think it's an old design, like most dominion stuff but they keep a few mothballed incase a force attacks dominion space and the attack ships and battlecrusiers aren't enough. I think in the lost dominion arc of STO that fleet had some
A ship built to destroy all who dare to stand in the Dominion’s way
I don't recall.
2:12 Nog and one girl survived when Valiant was destroyed, everyone else on the ship perished.
What about Jake
So next on STOL dominion vs the borg
The dderedex is mostly hollow. This ship would be much more massive. And therefore have. More power generation, more powerful weapons and shields.
I'd guess that after the treaty (and even if the Dominion HAD won), they probably would have been deconstructed, and only created again if needed
SPACE!!!
"Not to be confused with the battle 'cruiser'," - proceeds to call it a battle cruiser a half-dozen times 😉
Starfleet should have get one of these after the war and place in in earth orbit, just in case the "only ship in range (aka Enterprise)" isn't there to protect earth
you would think such a massive ship would be versatile simply by virtue of having a SHIT ton of internal space to play around with.
Got to admit I was confused when I saw the video pop up. Thought it might be a re-upload lol
Yeah I was like didn’t he make a video on this I’ve yet to watch .
Still bugs me I redeemed one of these on a Sci Toon on STO. But I made the most of it with the Dyson Set and a couple others for synergy.
This is what it looks like when the Dominion stops trying to be nice. Yep. That about says it all.
Hmm as formidable as these are , I wonder how'd it do aganst the humongous Reman vessel Scimitar in movie Star Trek Nemesis or a Borg cube
The Star Trek stardestroyer
Why can’t the Federation have toys like this?!
Starfleet's answer to ships of this scale (D'Deridex, JH Dreadnought, Reman Scimitar) was the Odyssey class.
they have it the achille class was build to successfully counter both the dominion battleship and the superdreadnought cardassian hutet, to give some spec 8 pulse cannons, several phaser array, 6 rapid fire quantum launcher, and dorsal arrays of burs fire micro quantum capable to cripple the biggest target with their sheer number despite individually are weaker , redundancies built everywhere with 2 warp core, dual shielded and ablative armour , 4 total warp nacelle(2 on pylon and 2 imbedded in the after saucer , same for impulse to assure it can go back home eve when crippled , in the lore the prototype alone hade the highest kill counted with 2 ketracel facility destroyed and 12 wings of galor/battlecruiser defence vessel obliterated
🖖
Jem’Hadar battleship VS Reman Warbird Scimitar, who wins?
If it’s not under the command of shenzon (the Picard clone) then I think the dominion battleship takes it, it’s a brute of sheer power but shenzon had the tactical ability to match Picard and overpower several romulan warships. The Schindler may possibly be outmatched straight up but shenzon shows experience makes the difference.
If only STO would have created full interiors for these ships like they did Romulan, Klingon, and Starfleet...instead of the generic bridges and interiors
The Dominion really is the closest thing to having the Galactic Empire in Star Trek.
Ah yes, the Red Squad killer lol
At a length of 1284 m the Dominion battleship is 59 m SHORTER than the D'Deridex-Class!!!! As the D'Deridex-Class is 1353 m long!!!!!
Ah, so this is Star Trek's equivalent to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer.
Why do dominion ships glow purple? or is that just running lights?
Edit Why so many windows if no viewscreen?
I wonder what this ship would do to a Borg cube...
Exactly my thought 💭! I would like to see both scenarios- the first encounter between Dominion and Borg later one when both factions had time to adapt.
The Cube would adapt and wreck it with ease
(Though the Lakota had been retrofitted to be much stronger than an Excelsior should have been and the Defiant still came out on top in spite of being sucker punched)
The episode Valiant itself is one of the best examples of this. The initial battle which crippled the Valiant and killed its officers was against a Cardassian warship. 3 years earlier Tom Riker scoffed at 3 Cardassian Warships posing a credible threat to the Defiant, which Kira seemed to buy
