@@MaddyMcCancerape Margaret Thatcher did the same before Blair and everyone was in awe. The ones who turned Grenfell into a death trap were the contractors AND the cladding manufacturer. They knew that the material was flammable and the safety certificates were a joke. Still, they put that today's "Oroglas" - sounds a bell? - in place to save a few quid on the final bill. They should be prosecuted till the end of time.
I feel like I should make some things clear as someone who's actually from England to those outside of the UK. The firefighters telling people to stay inside there homes is normal procedure for building fires such as this one, its to avoid people panicking and blocking the exits in their haste to save themselves. The flats are, normally, built to keep the fires contained as such the best thing to do is stay inside yours so your not stopping the firefighters from reaching the flat in question and putting out the flames. The fire spread too fast and was way too hot for the inflatable devices to be put down safetly, there was nowhere for them to go down without them being popped by the heat or destroyed by falling debris. There was no room for helicopters to get close, smoke was blocking their sights and as out of control blazes are not as common as they are in say Australia we are not at all prepared for them. The fire in Grenfell Tower was not a normal fire, it spread so quickly and got so out of control there was nothing anybody can do. Don't blame the firefighters who risked their lives to save all the people they could and don't blame the person who owned the flat where the fire started, he was the one who called 999 and got the people off his floor out. Blame the people who ignored warnings about how sprinklers should be installed, blame the people who thought it was a good idea to put illegal padding on the building which is the reason it burned so quickly. Blame the company who owned the fridge/freezer that exploded and caused the fire which was apparently a common thing with that brand. Blame the people who ignored the residents that repeatedly told them that the place they lived in was a huge fire hazard.
The truth is the people who built the tower put cheap flammable filling in between the walls because they didn't want to spend millions on the people who lived there. The fire started by a fault in the fridge freezer. The reason they told the people to stay inside is because it would have been safer if the cheap filling was replaced with more expensive stuff.
@@LadyLyndhurst01 I heard that it was the Labour government who put the cladding there in the first place. It was a tragedy that should not have happened. Also, I would have disobeyed and run for my life. I know that is the official line, but personal safety trumps rules. They can tell me off later.
Blame Tony Blair - it was his government that relaxed the building regulations that allowed Grenfell Towers to be death trap, he should be charged with 72 counts of involuntary manslaughter

Two strait wells wouldn’t make any difference under these fire conditions both stairwells would have equally acted as a chimney. Smoke rises and the lift shafts and stairwells acted as chimneys coupled with the heat and the flames too
Tragic. I happened to be passing through London on June 26, 2017, and visited the area out of respect. The building was completely black, charred from the inferno. Visited all the memorials around the tower. So many flowers, messages of remembrance, and messages towards the people in power. And here we are, 4 years later and the investigation is still ongoing. Hopefully, justice will prevail.
@@XMysticHeroxthey have also prosecuted NOBODY shame on them. There’s nothing stopping this from happening again. This is going to happen again because of how corrupt the UK is
Tories cut emergency services funding. Grenfell happened and it was an incredibly sad tragedy. Then in December 2019 the UK voted Tory again, now we’re in the midst of one of the greatest disasters in living history and once again, we are struggling due to Tories cutting NHS funding and we rely on underpaid, but incredibly talented and hard working medical professionals to save lives. But it’s ok, because the c*nts that voted tories despite all this, purely because they wanted their sh*tyy c*nting Brexit go outside and clap at 8PM on a Thursday night each week. I’m beyond disappointed at both the general public and the tory government. It makes me sick to my stomach.
In the 60's and prior there were metal ladders called "fire escapes" required on the outside of every multi story building. Now they are hardly ever seen.
I only lived a few minutes away at the time of Grenfell. I woke up on a school morning to turn on the TV and see that there was a flaming building on my screen, watching people only so far from me struggling and suffering :( I’ll never forget a couple days after on my way to Shepherds Bush seeing the building before it had been covered. Honestly, it was the most horrible thing ever. I could never imagine seeing live and in person and hearing all those screams. God bless all of these people who survived and lost their lives.
@bass monster yes it was but it was also A case of gross negligence on the councils part. They were made fully aware of issues with electrics and other safety concerns but chose to ignore it, therefore it is a total injustice. This could have been prevented and should’ve been. The fridge catching Fire was an accident yes but the fire should not have spread as quickly as it did, and they knew about this but chose to ignore it rather than pull their fingers out and fix the concerns raised rather than brushing people off. The whole building was covered in cheap cladding, they could have gone for the more expensive option but chose to play Russian roulette with peoples lives and save money with cheap cladding ultimately ended up killing so many people because of the cladding catching on fire which again should not have happened

Unfortunately in this country corporate manslaughter dosent come with a prison sentence the people in charge of this travesty need to be held accountable for the murder of all these people
@@OkOk-sh4oq Multiple fires were allowed to spread because of combustible materials by the windows and within the cladding system. Whilst attempts had been made to construct fire stopping compartments within the cladding, they were "installed incorrectly, and no evidence has been provided that they were ever tested for performance in the type of cladding installed at Grenfell Tower," the report said. -Flat entrance doors were non-compliant with fire test evidence and doors going to the stairs "do not appear to have been upgraded since installation in 1972" -The ventilation system - which was meant to prevent smoke from entering the stairwell - did not appear to work as intended -Issues with fire lifts meant they could not be used to transport equipment or residents up and down the building -The fire service had to pump its own water into Grenfell Tower - the building's "dry fire main" system was "non-compliant" with guidance at the time of construction and is "non-compliant with current standards" These things didn't happen magically. People made those decisions and looked the other way when it came to fixing them. There were people in charge of making sure that the Grenfell building was safe and respected fire safety regulations. Who are these people? What are their names? I want to know! They should rot in jailfor the rest of their miserable lives. The same goes for the goverment and municipal officials whose offices are in charge of making sure the buildings in the city are well built and safe. There are offices and departments in charge of supervising constructions and renovations. There are people in charge of organising firefighters visits to make sure smoke detectors, fire exits, fire alarms and fire blocking doors are present and well functionning. Where were the people in charge of these things? They don't deserve to be free. That is why they should be in jail.
Tragic... tragic... tragic ! So many contributing factors. 1. The cladding was highly flammable 2. There were previous complaints and serious concerns raised about the safety of the building which were ignored 3. People were told to stay inside by emergency responders 4. Fire alarms weren’t working so some people probably didn’t even know anything 5. It only took about 15 minutes for the whole block to turn in to a fireball 6. People had to jump out of the building... which resulted in more deaths It’s a shame, because the emergency services that responded to the first calls and advised people to “stay put”, only did so because normally a fire in a tower block flat is contained in one flat and would usually only affect that floor. However, this was a complete exception because of the terrible material on the building, used merely for appearance purposes. I can’t even lie, If I feel like my life is in danger, no matter what emergency services say, I will still leave. There’s nothing to lose in leaving but unfortunately, there was everything to lose in staying. It’s so upsetting. Britain is so notorious for saying “lessons have been learnt” 🙄🙄🙄 after it’s too late.
Okay so let me explain the point about emergency service: They told them to stay put because remember it was only 1 staircase. It would be harder for them to get up on such a narrow staircase to help people when everyone is crowding the stairs while running down the stairs.
@@dumbtch-lk5yr If everyone rushed the stairs more people wouldve died from the stampede. There’s only one set of stairs. Really, the blame is the lack of sprinklers and the illegal flammable material. Those things usually limit fires to one floor and allows first responders to fix the problem. But without sprinklers and with so much flammable stuff the fire spread really quickly and then it became disastrous because procedures are not designed for such mass negligence. I wouldnt blame emergency services procedures, it usually works.
The wealthy snobs complained about the aesthetics of the building for years, coercing the council to give the tower a new look. I hope they leave it standing as a memorial to the victims and a payback to the snobs.
And the same people are now going mad incase they have to live alongside the survivors. They are vermin. This fire united Londoners, we collected and gave out of helplessness and horror. But not with them..they are hated now.
This is like something from the 1800-1900s. There was a similar fire to this in America in 1911 at a sewing factory in Manhattan where 146 people died.
The creator of the tower is innocent, the building has been built up to code and as required for safety, as all towers are. It is the pure incompetency of government, and the companies who used and made shortcuts in modifying the building.
It wasn't built with this cladding, and the architect who designed it had learned the lessons of the Ronan Point gas explosion and strengthened the building to avoid large-scale disasters, after the fire he even said he expected the tower to last "another hundred years". Construction on the tower started in 1972 and this flammable cladding was only installed in 2015-2016. A witness in the video mentions that they had just recently installed it, maybe try watching it.
It's absolutely sinful that NO ONE has been held accountable for this tragedy in any capacity! That screams dirty local government to me! This MUST NOT be forgotten, the people who lived there, their friends and family's suffering MUST NOT be forgotten! Those who knew this cheap alternative cladding was dangerous and sold it anyway should be held accountable. There are still over 200 buildings in London alone that have this exact cladding on them! WHY is that?
I wouldn't be surprised to find that someone with enough power had taken bribes to allow this material. Or construction companies claimed to install cladding with built-in fire retardant but used cheaper stuff in reality and pocketed the money saved.
I was a student at NYU during 9/11 and this reminds me so much of that day. I remember seeing fleets of ambulance crews racing downtown only to see them slowly driving back up later in the evening when they realized there was no one alive to rescue.
I thought about that too, but I was too young to remember 9/11 and it didn't feel right. It was also because of people supposedly choosing to jump instead of burning or asphyxiation.
US airforce was playing war games on that day..... And decided to fire missiles from fighter jets at twin towers...they were pissed off at gov reducing army budget.... The fighter planes were then disguised with CGI imaging and rest as we know is history !
I was on flight BA12 enroute to Heathrow from Singapore for a 2-week vacation in London. Looked out the window to enjoy the view when I saw a huge column of smoke; only learnt what truly happened upon watching the news at the hotel.
Water wouldn't help, because burning Aluminum will make water dissociate into H2+O2 which leads to explosions. It's criminal to use aluminum cladding for such a building! It's not allowed in Germany for more than 5 or 6 story buildings.
Why did K&C apply to have Grenfell demolished in 2014 but spend over £8M renovating it in 2016? Now the building is gone along with most of the tenants in 2017. There's a serious case of corruption & corporate manslaughter going on here. We need an inquest & prosecutions, a lot of people need to go to jail for this.
Well maybe if that stinking, cowardly 3rd worlder had tackled that tiny fire on his fridge, instead of taking the time to pack all of his belongings into bags and warn his immediate neighbours before calling the fire brigade. Then just perhaps a tragedy could have been averted. Much as I despise our government it's not it's job to teach people common sense.
The same cladding was put on my tower block. After this happened it came to light that not only was it put on the building but done incorrectly they had to rehouse the 12 floor tower. Thankfully I had moved. It is so sad that so many had to die in such an horrendous way for things to change. R.I.P to all those who lost there life.
By 2021, 150 buildings had been found to have this cladding applied to it. The US had refused its approval for sale. The company who made it went to Britain and sold it there. Greed and dishonesty all around.

Drove past the other day - I swear I’ve never gotten such chills before - the government still hasn’t given a report to why this tower had no fire escape or alarm Disgusting.
Even now building regulations allow for the building of such blocks with only one staircase for escape. It did have alarms but they weren't loud. The residents had been complaining for years to the council about safety issues and they were ignored. The Inquiry has been hearing evidence that indicates that this type of cladding was falsely claimed to have passed fire safety tests or tests were manipulated to ensure a 'pass'. There was a whole chain of failures presided over by this Tory government and Tory council that put profits above safety.

I agree, I was 9 or 10 at the time and the morning I woke up with the news, eating my cereal. I watched in horror, I was almost sick, it was disgusting that someone could do something so terrible. Why would they put illegal flammable cladding on the building? I thought England was supposed to be a place that was more sensible than that. I was horrified at what I saw, the screams echoed in the room as me and my mum watched horrified on the screen. I will never forget the morning I woke up to see such a horror of an accident that could have been entirely avoided had they not put that cladding on.
I was in year 6 finishing SATs, now I’m in y12 doing a levels. I can see Grenfell from my house, and it feels like yesterday. Crazy, someone needs to be held accountable. 5.5 yrs on and no one has taken responsibility smh!
Definitely, they just couldn't find their remains because of how completely they burned, or because the structure was far too compromised to comb through the top floors looking for all of them.
My friends cousin died in this fire in honour our primary listened to the song for grenfell tower. We all cried and cried to the song. This reminded me and my classmates of our passed ones and it was hurtful. RIP to everyone who died!❤️😔
The statement that hit me the hardest was that the fire hoses and ladders could only reach the 12th floor. In this modern age how can this be? We build ever upwards but have no way of fighting fire in them? And then for all the officials to sit back and claim "not my fault" and they all got off scott free. It is sickening. I will never live in a tall building. Bless the victims.....bless the firefighters. I am sad the survivors will never see justice.
i mean thats why they build modern tall buildings in a way so fire doesent spread and like wtf they gonna do have a fire truck whit a 67 meter lift? its impossible
Ladders can only extend so far before they stop being safe, a ladder exceeding 12 floors won't be stable. Hoses longer than 12 floors will also be much harder to store on a fire truck, at some point there is a limit
01denese Governments cut corners!! Thatcher scrapped 20 pages of building regulations in the 80’s and tendered council jobs out to private contractors who could cut corners!! It’s never been the same since! In the 60’s.. Buildings had to have fire escapes! And sprinklers should have been fitted!!!

I was still a bit angry that early this year I had to move out of my rental room in Germany because the landlord said the passage to stair case of my room was too narrow and could be blocked when another room's door was opened so it was declared unsafe by the authority and its residential use was banned. Until now.
Thanks to @skynews for putting this report together. As a building design researching student, it'll help shape my opinion on the importance of fire safety in building design. All those death could have been prevented if engineers had adhered strictly to building regulations.
Got recommended this after watching news of the building collapse in Miami, those who build these huge structures ,that house PEOPLE, not up to regulation should absolutely be charged with murder and jailed for life. There's no excuse for this, they knew what they were doing when they were building it and that it was unsafe. Murder by negligence should be charged to the fullest extent.
ROTFL.. buddy, if a building has to meet all the regulations and more - just common sense, it will not be a council building. It wouldn't even be a privately owneg, wooden frame 3 story building. In UK buildings are cheaply made, and no CO or CO2 alarm, no fire proof door would help that. I belive only tens of thousands burned every year would change the approach of urban planners.
What gets me is that I have seen other UA-cam videos about tragic fires that were caused by inflammable cladding, that happened years earlier. This wasn't a one-off. This has happened before, for exactly the same reason.
I live in a ground floor apartment with two floors in the building and I am STILL terrified of my neighbours having a fire, especially as I have a man suffering with alcoholism above me, I'm petrified of him falling asleep with a cigarette lit etc. Luckily I live in an old building which is less likely to go up like a firework because of dodgy cladding. This video makes my heart hurt.
a man my father knew was in this fire. he went back to help some elder women on his floor but unfortunately none of them made it out. rip to all the victims of this horrible tragedy 😔💗
I feel Grenfell was another victim of social cleansing. Repairs weren't done, the refurbishment was shoddy and clearly dangerous. It was only a matter of time before it would have been emptied, knocked down and "affordable" housing built in its place displacing all residents to less wealthy areas. Residents that survived said repeatedly there was no central fire detection system which is illegal and no sprinkler system either
Interesting to see the reaction to the Queen in comparison with the mortal politicians. I'm not a royalist, but it was still good to see the respect the people had for her.
I went to visit my family in Hammersmith 7 days after this awful tragedy happened & the blanket of shock and grief that covered the city was very palpable from the moment I stepped off the train at Kings cross station. Overall, yes. But someone from the Fire Service told some residents to go back inside their homes while they were making their way down the stairs. Those people never got out alive.

This is so heartbreaking. I've also experienced the same tragedy as the Grenfell Tower fire, but in a different country and a different building (a shopping mall fire in Davao City, Philippines). On December 23, 2017, a fire started at the New City Commercial Center (NCCC) shopping mall in Davao City, Philippines. At least 38 people were trapped ...
I used to be a Forensic Architecture Technician. A major part of our professional services was inspecting hi-rises for fire safety -checking conditions vs. building code at the time, and those items required to be up to date. I’ve never seen something so egregious!! Those panels were ridiculous- I don’t know how anyone with half a brain would consider using them! And if only one fire stairs too, that’s nuts. I doubt there were any fire doors. Thankfully, the things I’ve seen have been nowhere near this level of shoddiness. EDIT: No sprinklers??? What the hell?!?! Has London forgotten the great fire in the 1660’s, and The Blitz??? This is the 21st century. Unbelievable.
I know that fire stairs regulations differ country to country but there is no doubt that Grenfell Tower’s height exceeded the threshold requiring a second staircase in the building code at the time. The building was designed in 1967, and built in 1972.
There was no way to evacuate the whole building. No PA system, one ordinary staircase, no sprinklers and the fire alarm didn’t work. The flats should be safe for an hour, but with the lethal cladding taking the fire up so quickly, the compartmentation failed. There was not enough water pressure and the water company, when they finally arrived around 6.00, did nothing and even told the firefighters that the pressure would drop even further once the local residents got up. Also the ventilation system didn’t work, so the stairs and lobbies became lethally smokelogged.
I still never forget this tragedy and most of those poor people listened to the authorities telling them to stay put and wait for help that's a lesson we must learn I think many could have lived if they hadn't listened to authorities even the people on the ground was shouting get out of there
All multi flats are designed to stay put. All multi storey flats have one staircase. Shoddy building materials used in this refurb was the reason. All multi flats are the same - one main staircase. Should be safe - for the past sixty years, this has been the case.
@@likeaboss6421 In the UK, that's how flats are usually built. @@MaddyMcCancerape Margaret Thatcher did the same before Blair and everyone was in awe. The ones who turned Grenfell into a death trap were the contractors AND the cladding manufacturer.
Xenia-Ellen Caltabiano LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK
The truth is the people who built the tower put cheap flammable filling in between the walls because they didn't want to spend millions on the people who lived there. The fire started by a fault in the fridge freezer. The reason they told the people to stay inside is because it would have been safer if the cheap filling was replaced with more expensive stuff.
And no.1 blame the tory government whose Minister Barwell ignored numerous warnings of the fire hazard.
@@LadyLyndhurst01 I heard that it was the Labour government who put the cladding there in the first place. It was a tragedy that should not have happened.
Also, I would have disobeyed and run for my life. I know that is the official line, but personal safety trumps rules. They can tell me off later.

@Yuri L He might be one from mafia who put inappropriate cladding, too young to understand, or...
-Flat entrance doors were non-compliant with fire test evidence and doors going to the stairs "do not appear to have been upgraded since installation in 1972"
-The ventilation system - which was meant to prevent smoke from entering the stairwell - did not appear to work as intended
-Issues with fire lifts meant they could not be used to transport equipment or residents up and down the building
-The fire service had to pump its own water into Grenfell Tower - the building's "dry fire main" system was "non-compliant" with guidance at the time of construction and is "non-compliant with current standards"
These things didn't happen magically.
1. The cladding was highly flammable
2. There were previous complaints and serious concerns raised about the safety of the building which were ignored
3. People were told to stay inside by emergency responders
4. Fire alarms weren’t working so some people probably didn’t even know anything
5. It only took about 15 minutes for the whole block to turn in to a fireball
6. People had to jump out of the building... which resulted in more deaths
It’s a shame, because the emergency services that responded to the first calls and advised people to “stay put”, only did so because normally a fire in a tower block flat is contained in one flat and would usually only affect that floor.
As soon as they say to stay put start running the same thing happened on 9/11
Okay so let me explain the point about emergency service:
They told them to stay put because remember it was only 1 staircase. It would be harder for them to get up on such a narrow staircase to help people when everyone is crowding the stairs while running down the stairs.
@@kimxhii2406 ok but shouldn’t they priorities peoples lives before trying to put out the fire
Lessons have been learnt" - only the lasy people use to say this....😢
Do something before,no?
Prevent is better than cure!
The wealthy snobs complained about the aesthetics of the building for years, coercing the council to give the tower a new look. I hope they leave it standing as a memorial to the victims and a payback to the snobs.
It will at least stay standing until 2018, as the forensic searches are expected to continue until then.

I remember watching it on the news and was confused
Shame on whomever built that tower. The damn thing is so flammable! It's burning like everything it was made of was soaked in gasoline.
The cladding accelerated the fire.
The company who installed the cladding on the exterior of the building put peoples lives last.
Disgusting.
The plastic cladding IS essentially gasoline. It’s a petroleum product.

Thanks to @skynews for putting this report together. As a building design researching student, it'll help shape my opinion on the importance of fire safety in building design. All those death could have been prevented if engineers had adhered strictly to building regulations.
safety has been a very important important priority in building design for a few centuries
The founder of McAfee, who ,,died" recently, owned an apartment in the Miami building. I don't think that the fire set up normally.
ROTFL.. buddy, if a building has to meet all the regulations and more - just common sense, it will not be a council building. It wouldn't even be a privately owneg, wooden frame 3 story building. In UK buildings are cheaply made, and no CO or CO2 alarm, no fire proof door would help that. I belive only tens of thousands burned every year would change the approach of urban planners.

It’s shameful! The government disgrace.
Why tell them to stay put? 1 damn stairwell! Poor poor souls...Rest In Peace
Because it's an effective method that was used with success in the past. Sadly on Grenfell it didn't work.
