First wheelie I ever pulled wasn’t intentional. I was in my first six months of street riding. I was trying to dodge traffic in a hurry and pulled a wheelie through the entire intersection and damn near collided with a guard rail. I clamped on the front brake like a fiend until my brain finally starts working again and it’s like ‘dude, that tire isn’t on the road right now, what are you doing ?!’ Saved the bike (and myself some pain), but yeah. Adrenaline goes high and really obvious crap can take a second. 😣

I used to do wheelies with my four stroke 250cc and 400cc without having the feel to brake and keep the front wheel up. When I it the brakes it was always with too much force. But even though, just by managing the throttle and my body, I could go for half a mile. But that was with light dirt bikes. Don't think it would have worked with powerful and heavy bikes like that one!
The first wheelie I did was close to 100, going full throttle on my CBR 600 (poor choice of first bike) when the power curve hit. Scared me pretty good trying to figure out how to set the wheel back down gently!

Bro bro, you don't have to bounce the bike or yank on it. No man has that much muscle to pull the bike up. Let the engine do the lifting. You're on a torque beast. Once you time the clutch and throttle together correctly at the right rpm, you'll see, no need to pull. (do cover the back brake tho. That's what flipped you on this ride. Well you feel it start to go, push the back brake to drop back to the front). PS. A better helmet might give you better visibility too. But I'm sure you got enough of that from the other comments.
Nope. The flywheel the bike is on don't have enough weight. It is hard to wheelie because the wheel just spins faster when you give it throttle. There is little resistance to the wheel. The flywheel need to have at least the same inertia of a motorcycle + the rider. It is also harder to keep it from falling to the back for the same reason.
Pro Tip: on a stock street bike, the rear brake is basically only strong enough to control wheelies. To use it in any meaningful way with stock pads and lines, you actually have to apply a large amount of force. Before the loud pipe and the tail tidy -> upgraded rear pads; braided rear lines; better brake fluid.

yeah you're supposed to find the balance with the throttle. You aren't really supposed to do the choppy throttle to keep you up, you want to be smooth. Thats how you know if someone is good at wheelies not saying there aren't some stunters that do chop but usually cause they need a lil more time to stand up and do a trick that pushes the bike down

As someone who will never wheelie their bike, never even thought about learning it since I persinaly don't like it. Cudos to you guys who have the skill for it though. But I would try this out just for the giggles really, it is a controlled environment but as you said it is not a good substitute for true practice if you want to learn it, but I see it could help with insecurities of younger riders to get a feel for the angle before taking ot to the streets and learn for real.
