Book burner sounds like Brian eno compare to prowler
Not sure who I like better, Eno or Pig Destoyer. This album shreds but Prowler is one of a kind.

I liked Brian Harvey, but Adam Jarvis turned Pig Destroyer into something even better. They sound like an unstoppable grind machine, and that's why I love them.
I'm with ya man. Jarvis is a maniac, one of my favorite drummers. He hits hard as shit too.
Brian has the best groove, but this new one has better speed to it
+grindcoremaniac agreed! no disrespect to harvey, but jarvis has really added incredible ferocity and intensity [and technicality!!!] to bring the drums into the forefront of pd. i didn't think they could destroy harder, but now.......all bets are off :)
Harvey was my main man when it came to the oldschool 24/7 grind and this guy reminds me of a grind band after theyve developed.

You “tried and true” Pig Destroyer “die-hard” fans can say what you want, this album is amazing. It got me, and probably a lot of others into the band. It may not be as abrasive and destructive as their earlier work... but it still holds the spirit of what the bands all about.
Please, PxDx purists, hush 🤫, the band has always demonstrated a punk element, or an unnurtured tendency if I may.. How is this album any different?
mrcoolj90 I can see your point, but me personally, I really like the vocal work here. They aren’t as nasty as his early work sure, but what can you expect from a guy his age who’s been doing nothing but scream his entire career.
When I first heard this album, it was the very first Pig Destroyer album id ever heard, and the vocals still completely blew me away. It took me much longer in fact to get into their other albums at the time. I’d argue the guitar is mixed just right for the vocal and style the band was aiming for with this album. It worked for me!
I wouldn’t dismiss somebody thinking that their earlier work is “better” but it comes down to preference imo.
Yeah, you're right about vocals, because it's inevitable to lose some voice capabilities after screaming so aggressively for so long. I actually do like J.R.'s vocals a bit more on Head Cage than on Book Burner. Prowler in the Yard was my first album I heard from them and from then on I fell in love with the band. But yep it does come down to preference and there's no problem preferring a newer style.
Update 2021: Don't know what I was thinking when I said that, J.R. sounded better on Book Burner, and the album finally grew on me.
Try the PD Gnob split album.

Some people dont realize how ground breaking this album truly is... the fact that its endless jams, the groovy riffs hit HARD and just makes me wanna go crazy... a one man band and a band with multiple members sometimes cant compare to a 2 piece rhythm section... it's just and endless flow of rhythm and this was pretty more pig destroyer at their peak. They honestly don't need and imo dont sound any better with a bass player and I listened to headache and the song structure is boring, the riffs aren't there anymore, they they totally fine without a bass player... and I dont think they can go back to this with a bass player yes you can put it on there but what's the point? So they can play the exact same shit every time and sound like a hardcore band? I get bass if you were a band like mortician napalm death repulsion or even coke bust but PxDx were just one hell of a rhythm section all over the damn place... a bass player didnt really achieve anything for this band except for a more boring sound... I love Enemy Soil and Pig Destroyer but IMO this was their best work next to prowler.
Their early shit is my favorite but I don't mind the extreme metal band they became
