Thanks to Gavin and Amanda for an incredible workshop experience, lots of laughs and amazing memories. If you haven’t booked a workshop with him, what are you waiting for? Just read the fine print (and don’t let him near your camera) 😂
As a Pentaxian, you're used to getting a constant flow of it, but from Gavin, who gives everyone and everything their irreverent deadpan due, it's even funny. Which is likely why Jason plays along with it, while of course knowing that a K-70 paired with a capable standard zoom is actually about as good as landscape rigs get in APS-C. Add a nice telezoom from the DA or DFA lineup for grabbing detail, and you're set for some really nice shots out and about.
Absolutely brilliant & hats off to Jason for playing along. Anyone who can mention Fisher Price, Tonka Toys & Tampax in a landscape photography vlog gets my full respect 😂😂😂
Timex, Hasbro, Fisher-Price, Mattel, Tonka, Pentaximus Maximus … how hilarious is that 😂 … and you should pay your students for being the protagonist in your videos. Cheers …
I am happy to let you know I received my copy of Chasing Awe. I was surprised it was not delivered by Thomas Heaton as I believe he is trying to make some extra money to pay for his van modifications. I'm sure your book will provide us many years of joy propping up the wobbly leg of our dining room table. Very much appreciated. 😉
That was hugely entertaining. I think you should pay your students a fee for acting along! Jason was amazing. I love my Pentaxes, got 7 film and one digital. But I just bought an old Sony alpha 350 for the CCD sensor. And it has a flippy display.
Shout out to my homeboy Jason from a fellow Knoxvillian. I always wanted a Pentax 67. But, I settled for a Hasselblad. The last time I was in Canada, a rather rude bartender asked where I was from. I said, Knoxville, TN. He said, "Never heard of it". I said, "That's ok. They've never heard of you, either." 😛
One of the funniest episodes yet, but glad you dropped the K200 stunt double though. I think you're spot on with your comments re articulating screens, I like the image quality of my Sony A7R II (at least when poor composition means a tight crop works better) but struggle with low vertical shots on the A7R II with just its tilt screen. As someone who really only shoots landscapes and mainly on manual anyway, my conclusion is that in most situation my K70 is just a better tool and one of the reasons is the articulating screen (I know its not uniquely Pentax)
Besides being my favorite photography channel, Gavin knew how to turn Amanda and himself and knows how to turn all of his guests into professional actors. Generally, this channel is by far better entertainment as big Hollywood blockbusters.
All brands have their different strengths and weaknesses; although I now use Canon and Olympus mirrorless my Pentax system provided the best opportunities for creative photography. Never mind the flippy screen do any of the other oh-so-clever brands have inbuilt technology to compensate for the earth's rotation and so extend the exposure time of the night sky for sharp and detailed star shots? How many multiple shots can they combine - 10 or 12? the Pentax K1 can blend up to 2000 which can also be programmed for time-lapse (in pouring rain if necessary). These are just two examples where Pentax is and always has been designed for creative photographers rather than targeting "content creators".
Superb. Normally I write some long convoluted reason as to why these vids are genius… … whether it be a phrase, gag, or simply the Hardcastle’s awesome photography… but no… just superb.
This was hilarious. Please tell me you didn't really ruin his camera. I almost cried seeing the look on his face. I'm sure you know that the Pentax K1000 was one of the most popular 35mm film cameras back in the day. We still have ours. Seems like Pentax got a little left behind in the digital camera arena. That articulating screen is cool. I've got news for you. Sony does have that articulating screen technology. They put them on their Handycam video cameras. I have one of those too. You would think the Handycam division would walk over to the camera division and say, put this screen on your cameras 😁 Thanks for another great video. I save yours for last so I can have a smile on my face. By the way, the sunset over the ocean looked pretty spectacular.
My second camera is a Pentax K5. I still hold that seeing the picture in your mind's eye and knowing how to get that picture "manually" is the key.... twice the camera half the money. PS. Most modern Pentax Bodies and Lenes are weather sealed. ;)
Really enjoyed this! Jason was great! I think he should be a regular shooter on the channel:) - funnily enough I’ve been looking at the Pentax K1 mk ii
The best video ever and that's because it had a Pentax in it, you have to be a brave man putting a Pentax camera in the river with all the Pentaxian's watching this one 😂😂😂
:) i'm really happy to have a guy with pentax! i had a Pentax 10Kd before, now a Pentax K5ii, they are really good! And if i saw i saw it right, Jason has a Cokin filter system too!
Hilarious video! I love that you all just get out in nature and not only enjoy what you see, but you get great shots, fun memories, and tell entertaining stories, whether it's a touristy spot or less known. It inspires me to get out more with my camera and do the same. You also gave some great tips on taking photos. I know these videos take a lot to put together so thanks a million!
Have to be honest Gavin, Pentaxamus Maximus is a lot better that your Unicorn Spoonicorn thing. 😂 Love how he through your book away 😂 Brilliant out takes and fab vid.
workshop includes free bag of basmati rice🤣those expressions, soo funny! fisher price/martel/tampax etc 🤣🤣 top drawer photography. ah needed that. thank you!! ❤❤
Jason's comeback about antiques and fototripper workshops was spot on. Do we get to see him knock your old A7R3 into a lake next week? BTW, Amanda's teeshirt at 10:43 is grotesque: 😱 has she been at another horror movie convention? 👹🧛🦇
There's a few of us that have Pentax . . . . I quite enjoyed using mine. I dreaded the day it died. It's now a good second for the kids to learn on. Oh the laughter you two must have had trying to do some of those moments. Great places for some photography though.
What's up Gavin? I guess my little Nikon D3300 is not worth talking about. Dude you're a cold piece of work. Actually that's pretty funny stuff. I have seen other video comparisons you've done showing that it comes down to the photographer. If this guy stay within the range of his camera he'll be just fine. Some of these skits are really funny. Take it easy man. Peace!
Ha Ha Ha… that was awesome. Super funny and entertaining as usual. Jason was a great companion! Ah, well, of course he was. He had to be. He is a Tonka user. Just like me 😎. Tonka users are great peeps 😋
Cool little private spot at the end! I love the root system taking over the bank. I'm always a sucker for those gnarly bits. The Island has SO many hidden gems just waiting to be found!
I have to say that when you say you are in Nova Scotia you are correct. However if you are living in Cape Breton you are a Cape Breton-er! They are island people and not mainlanders. Having lived there for three summers I found out these islanders don't like being a Nova Scotia-er really love this place you end up being an islander. Fun time with this video.
Sony has the a7r5. So not sure what the complaint is here. It also has focus stacking and some other features you’d probably enjoy not available on the A1. I’ve got both and for your style you should be using the a7r5. On the other hand if I had the Hasselblad I’d probably use that for all my landscape work, flippy screen or not.
If only this had been posted a day earlier I may have known to use a longer focal length lens to create a foreground to the waterfall. Oh well, this gives me an excuse to go back.
"The most famous view point in Nova Scotia." I half expected you to come around a tree and we'd be looking at Hardcastle Towers ;-) Shenanigans! Nice images, some good advice. Cheers.
Have a K70 and works great. The camera you pulled from the water was not a K70. They still make the K70. My main camera is an Olympus EM-1 II use it for wildlife.
Note to all Jason's everywhere...don't go near water with Gavin. 🤣 Great shot's all around (I hope that Pentax death was planned). I have a bag of Basmati rice if it's needed, lol.
I was a Pentaxian long ago. My first SLR was Pentax H1a back in 1977. Since then I have owned Spotmatic F (first with a lightmeter in the camera), K1000 (absolute workhorse and indestructible), ME Super, ZX30, K10, K20D, K5iis. Unfortunately, Pentax was kind of late to the Digital scene, and they started scalling back on all their lens selection. This would not have been a issue if I only shot Lanscapes, which is not very equipment demanding. But I shoot Macro, Wildlife, and Architectural as well. So I needed lots of lenses. In 2015 I made the very painful decision to give-up on Pentax and go with Canon. One of the major reasons, in addition to lens selection, was that a flippy screen is incredibly useful for Macro and Architecture, and Pentax still did not have one. I still miss my old Pentax. I still have all of them and they all still work perfectly.
Seems like the K1 (if it wasn't for the lens issue you mentioned as I don't know if they have fixed that) fills your requirements again... albeit very very late.
Just out of curiosity, why didn’t you try to shoot also directly into the sunset to create something minimal, perfectly symmetrical with the colourful clouds reflected in the sea?
Thanks to Gavin and Amanda for an incredible workshop experience, lots of laughs and amazing memories. If you haven’t booked a workshop with him, what are you waiting for? Just read the fine print (and don’t let him near your camera) 😂
Point taken!
And the camera survived due to the free bag of basmati (free bag not included).
Thomas would have given you a refund plus a free trip 😂
@@RogerJones-mountfield Or at least a free tip.
Your photo was actually very refreshing to the eye❤ well done Jason✊🏼🙄
It's impressive to see the three remaining Pentax users commenting on this video.
Come again?
What is this “Pentax”?
Tbh… Pentax makes fabulous cameras… I’m good with my Fuji GFX and X-trans cameras, but Pentax are nice too…
Get the K-1 or K-3 though!
An older gentleman in my camera club uses a pentax
Don’t be silly.

Oh, knocking the camera into the river and the outtakes was worth the price of admission... well done Gavin! Too funny!
Absolutely brilliant & hats off to Jason for playing along. Anyone who can mention Fisher Price, Tonka Toys & Tampax in a landscape photography vlog gets my full respect 😂😂😂
Way to go Jason, a fellow pentaxian 📷📷
😂 Pentax DSLR 😢!!! 😂 Was one of my favorite video!!! You should do more old DSLR cameras video with Jason 😂!!!
Hi Fototripper. I also use Pentax. If I win the lottery, I'll book you for a year and we'll make a race. Pentax vs Sony or whatever. 😂😂😂
Timex, Hasbro, Fisher-Price, Mattel, Tonka, Pentaximus Maximus … how hilarious is that 😂 … and you should pay your students for being the protagonist in your videos. Cheers …

I have a friend with a Pentax K3 III... and it's an amazing camera! I want one. Maybe you should rent a K1 to improve your photography.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've just had a hernia operation and I'm laughing my arse off whilst trying to not burst my stitches 🤣🤣🤣 AAARRGGHH, ouch, ouch.

Can't tell you how excited I was to hear he shoots with Pentax!😊
I’m sorry, Jason, but I laughed till I cried! The bubbles floating up were a nice touch. Revenge must have been sweet.
Can’t get enough of the best laughs ever! Thanks for sharing 😂
I don’t even consider myself a amateur photographer but I am learning so much from you! So happy I found your site!
Loved the bubbles coming from the camera under water Gav!
So tragic

Tears are flowing! Class shots and scenery!
Omg I laughed out loud about smacking the camera into the water! 😆 and other things 😆
Love the humor, Lol. You’ve become my favourite landscape channel!
I was waiting for the statement no Pentax were injured in the making of this video. lol
Besides being my favorite photography channel, Gavin knew how to turn Amanda and himself and knows how to turn all of his guests into professional actors. Generally, this channel is by far better entertainment as big Hollywood blockbusters.
Can't wait for this year's blooper real!!
Laughing so hard that my wife asks me to go watch this video outside…
I'm not sure what's funnier, the video itself or the comments from people who don't understand humour. Excellent as always Gavin!
