    I bought this bag, used it for 2 to 3 weeks. Problem is that it does not age well at all as already the auto closure system is not working properly anymore. Even worse, one of the 4 panel is kind of broken now and detaching itself. Conclusion is: great idea, not sustainable at all.

    How well does the closure system work when it's smushed up inside a bag or inside a bouldering pad? I love the ideal personally, I kinda want to move away from draw string closure systems coz they seem to fray for me, but still I'd like to know if the magnetic closure system can hold chalk in when the bag is compressed in a bag

    • @jersey282
      @jersey282 5 років тому +5

      I dont think you are supposed to rely on the magnetic closure when throwing it in the bag, its just for climbing. You can see that the magnetic bag had a drawstring as well, he just didnt mention it. So you can close it fully just like the blackdiamond.

    Just not convinced by this, the problems that it is solving are not one's that I've faced before, i.e. I'm okay with losing 6 seconds opening a drawstring (which if you look closely the Magnetic bag also has), I've never knocked my chalk bag off a balcony or forgot to open it before starting a climb (as I tend to apply chalk before I get on the rock).
    And even if you are saving chalk while it's in use, I can't see it being as durable as a normal chalk bag. I.e. I do not think this would survive at the bottom of my bag inbetween my full rack and twin ropes. I'd imagine (I'm being careful not to say certain) it wouldn't survive being squashed between awkward, lumpy and (relatively) heavy kit on top of it.
    Plus: 5:54 hand goes in easy
    6:45 seems marginally more awkward
    You know that saying, "if it ain't broke...."
    Is this a promotional video as opposed to a review? Because if so then this makes sense.
    EDIT: Just realised Epic TV is also the EpicTV Shop, penny's dropped.

      @@charlesphillips8062 I am surprised to read this, I have never in my 14 years climbing broken a drawstring. Now that I think about it, I'm only on my second chalk bag, and my first I only stopped using because the zipped pocket broke.

    By the way, this bag has a drawstring. So you can forget to open it just as you can with a regular chalk bag. And you can't even tell if it's opened or closed due to the magnetic closure system.

    I have tried others with chalk barriers and they all feel too restrictive. I need my chalk bag opening to be wide and unobstructed. To counter the issue of chalk falling out you can just use a chalk ball instead.

  • @Adam12131
    @Adam12131 5 років тому +1

    This is a good preliminary test but the testing left much to be desired. A key issue is how easy chalking up is once the chalk bag is open. It would be nice to see more tests showing the difference. It would have been good to see a test on a longer climb that is actually on either indoor climbing holds or real rock. Also its unfair to constantly test the magnetic chalk bag second. The second climb one climbs something is typically going to be easier. A key concern for some is how much of a mess will a chalk bag make in their bag. When closed correctly I could see the magnetic chalk bag spewing chalk everywhere when crushed while a regular bag won't do this. It would be nice to see a comparison with other chalk bags such as the arc'teryx chalk bag which has a special closing mechanism.

    I just ordered one to use for dog training treats. Seems like this bag is getting really hard to find. I couldn't find one in the US and had to order from the UK. Looking forward to quick access to dog treats during training and no spillage when I inevitably bend over to pull garbage out of my puppy's mouth. (I also climb but will continue using my $5 chalk bag for climbing 😅)

    I think it a nice chalk bag for the boulder hall. My little chalk bag is kicked away many times and the magnetic system provides the lost of the chalk. Ok, I don´t take my chalkbag with me on a boulder problem but I´m to lazy and I don´t really to chalk up during a boulderproblem.

  • @Cacovangor
    @Cacovangor 5 років тому

    While I admire efforts to progress the classics, such as the chalk bag, this is solving a basically nonexistent problem which is slight loss of chalk. Any additional resistance, especially on overhanging routes where the bag is hanging free, makes chalking much more annoying and time consuming.
    Also, no one has ever gotten on a serious send attempt only to find the bag closed when essential... unless the crux comes a move off the deck in which case just restart.

    why include the bag opening time, nobody opens it while climbing, but before starting the climb. Also, why does he need so much time to chalk his hands the first time but not the second time? Once it's open it should be the same, no need to hold the bag. ALSO, you can clearly see at 2:21 that in the test the bag does NOT close properly, which was supposed to be the whole advantage of this system. Duh.
    I don't get the second test, who drops their chalk bag? especially when it's open.
    Scientific? Not quite.. maybe take reviews seriously if you want people to trust you? Maybe it's just me not getting the tests though..
