      Unironically yes. You're not supposed to do strength training for the first six months of your climbing, because tendon strength is usually the weak link in the chain for new climbers.

    The superman - you can actually make it a more constant effort and more engaging one by always keeping the arm you are not currently raising slightly above the ground. I've found that after a while, the superman itself gets too easy and I need too many repetition to feel it. But keeping both arms slighlty raised at all times helps that...

      Oh, I see where you could think he's talking about the camera but indeed he actually speaks English correctly and didn't leave out the word "the". He's asking about the pronoun, Cam. This is also emphasized because of the fact that Cam has the first letter capitalized.

    Any suggestions on how to actually engage the core or how to use that core strength during climbing? I think I have decent core strength as I can do all the exercises in the video for multiple sets of 20+ reps without struggling. However my body tends to swing in the air on overhang walls and I find it difficult to control with feet stepping on the wall or holds like other climbers easily do. I'm fairly new to climbing so maybe I haven't got the technique for that?

    for real though with windshield wipers, you don't want to be rotating your lumbar spine (lower back) like the guy in this demonstration is sometimes doing, rotation should come from the thoracic spine only. Try and keep your shoulders level and keep it as a controlled movement. You should never rotate your lumbar spine

    I don't see how the "dumbbell snatch" exercise would help. You pull and contract the abdomen while climbing, and this move is the opposite of that.

    • @HeiLong24
      @HeiLong24 7 років тому +13

      I believe that this oppositional training counter-acts the repetitive motions that we perform while climbing. **Because** you're constantly making a motion opposite to the dumbbell snatch while climbing, it's extra critical that you train the opposing groups of muscles to prevent imbalances.
      I'm saying this because I used to ask my physical therapist the same questions when I had my climbing injuries, most of which were from muscle imbalances or improper training. She had me go through excercises similar/easier than dumbbell snatches because my pelvic area was in pain. She determined that I had core imbalances that were affecting my pelvic floor. After a week of doing those exercises (and I still have to keep them up), the pain started to go away.

    • @DonReba
      @DonReba 7 років тому +5

      Right. One avoids putting on muscle weight that does not improve performance while also not neglecting the opposing muscles completely. Climbing is all about balance.
      This might be a good exercise for staying healthy; I am just skeptical that it would improve core strength for climbing.

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang 7 років тому +11

      It helps to develop posterior chain strength which is a part of you core stability. Lifting weights does not equal putting on muscle weight, lifting weights in a program designed to exhaust muscles in a very short period of time repeatedly increases muscle mass. Snatch and overhead press from a squat position is good for working your glutes and back muscles at the same time, this is your posterior chain. Core stability is created by the anterior and posterior chains contracting and working against each other, so they must be equally as strong to maximise performance. I hope this helps.

    Hi, the last exercise named Dumbbell Snatch is not correct performed. Its not a jump up. Power comes from the Glutes, back to forward. Not upwards. Please learn swing first. Snatch with a dumbbell is in fact not a good idea. You can't perform correct technic with this. Look for teaching Videos, Kettlebell with Jeff Martone or others from RKC.
