Great episode, came across your channel by chance, really great to see Sid, absolutely love Duncanby and all the staff at the lodge. Can’t wait to get back there and they do so much good work with the hatchery.
Great episode Mike. I've only fished River's Inlet a very short afternoon some years ago, on the way to the Charlottes. Great to see you got a Tyee. I caught my largest one up at Langara (43 pounds) more than a decade ago. I hear the size up there is considerably smaller the last 5 or 6 years or so. Looks like Duncanby still has some lunkers. A good Buddy ordered a North River 2700SXL last October with twin 250 Yamahas (and a kicker). He's to get delivery the first week of July (it was delayed in production). It'll be the first boat I've driven with a joystick in the cockpit. Of course it'll be all setup with Scotty Riggers, and ready to go.
Great episode, thanks for sharing! Duncanby is my dream trip. I started inquiring with them and covid hit. Hopefully in the next couple years I can make it happen and get me one of Jason’s reels to tell stories about too! Congrats 👊🏻
I'm curious. Have Tyee lost weight? When I went on a Bucket list Fishing trip to the QCI/Haida Gwaii in August 2009. A Tyee was 50lb. Now I hear it's 30lb? Does it go by location? Every Chinook we caught was over 30lb. We caught our limit. Plus 1 half fish that was 26.6lbs. I really don't care about the Tyee Rank.I probably will never eat salmon ever again Just wondering. Happy Fishing
Based on the rules on the Tyee Club out of Campbell River, a Tyee is a chinook over 30lbs which is what we go by today. Sounds like an epic trip, thanks for sharing!
Dude finally people are releasing their fish its absolutely insane how bad our fisheries are in the northwest and nobody gives a dam shit. I release all salmon now that i catch. I just go out to enjoy and i push everybody to release all salmon 20lbs and over.
Great to hear Joey. Yes, we certainly to try to promote proper catch and release of salmon, but we also know that certain catches won't make it if released and those are the ones we take home to enjoy with the family. We need to ensure there is a sport fishery for many generations to come and just being out on the water is a great day :)
Yea, the first time I had a job in cressent city I was asking all the young bucks how the fishing was and was amazed that none of the younger set even cared about fishing they said there are no fish to be caught around here or we would be on that.

Thanks so much for sharing! We absolutely agree with you. We love everything about Duncanby and cannot wait to get back up there!
Another great adventure with Sid at Duncanby! Congrats on the release. 👍😀
Thanks Henry!!
