Awesome! Love the intensity of that battle with a perfect size Chinook for table fare! Yum. Great captures and exciting edits. You know you’re pretty darn lucky to get to go out fishing 1on1 with Ted! Keep ‘em coming!! 😊📸✔️
Thanks, Charlie!! I just have to keep filming everything and realizing what I am used to and find boring... is not the case for everyone else. It's different up here and most things are actually quite interesting. Ill keep them coming!
That's awesome! Im glad to hear you had a great time when you were up in Rivers Inlet. When did you come up to Good Hope? It's been a private lodge now for many years.
I’ve been following you for a bit and I find your videography skills have improved so much. You really capture the essence of this part of BC. It’s been 30+ years since I’ve visited the area, but I have so many memories of the natural beauty and the people I met and worked with. Must go back! Until then, I’ll follow your adventures.❤
Thank you for the follow, Jamie! I really appreciate it. I find, like most things, the more you do, the better you get. Im going to keep working on my skills. I do enjoy editing a lot. Im glad your enjoying all the little adventures we are having up here!
Hogust woohoo it's coming right up! The one we caught the fish on is a... P2B...? I know that's what Ted called it. Just a big silver spoon. Big compared to what Im used to using in the little rivers in Alberta where Im from.
Been there Fished that Spot repeatedly . Unlike the Video it's usually CROWDED there. Dozens of boats usually nudging each other even. Fishing the 'wall' Means being ON the wall as in being ~10 Feet away from the rock face. IF not.... all one catches are the pesky Pinks....which are Unavoidable actually.
I guided Ted into a tide line off the wall and caught a Tyee! You never know where they will be! Definitely a tricky spot to fish when it’s full of boats!
What a great video Jenny. The water looked beautiful, very little chop. What was Ted harvesting the kelp for? Do you actually eat it? Awesome job of landing your fish. It looked like a good little fighter. Such beautiful scenery. I miss being on the water myself. Not even catching fish, just being on the water. 😍😍🌹🌹💖💖
Thank you so much! It was a beautiful day to be out. We have made kelp salad a few times up here at the lodge. It's doesn't have much flavour so it takes on anything you add to it. Ive made a Japanese salad (Wakame) a few times, this time I added cucumbers and red onions and made a light vinaigrette with lemon vinegar. The I cut up all the stalk and the ball part, and pickled it just like pickles. Id like to make tartar sauce with it for fish and chips. yum!
@@jenny_adrift Kelp salad sounds interesting. When I lived in Masset years ago, a couple of local Haida ladies told me that they used kelp and seaweed in making ice cream. They also harvested kelp leaves with herring eggs on them for food. I never tried either while I lived there, as I didn't have the opportunity. I can't say as I would have tried it anyway, as I don't have a very adventurous palate...lol. Pickled kelp seems like something I would try, though, as does the tarter sauce, since I love tarter sauce. 😍😍🌹🌹💖💖👌👌👏👏👍👍
The largest spring salmon I ever caught was at Wadhams on a seine boat fishing for pink salmon. We caught an 83 lb spring and nothing else, so we went back to Namu. In later years I caught up to 500 sockeye a day at Wadhams in my gillnet averaging 7.5 lbs each. The largest fish I caught jigging there was a 40 lb ling cod, between Wadhams and Duncanby. 😊
Wow, that sounds amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Namu is a pretty cool spot. I’d like to see some pictures of it when it was lived in
@@jenny_adrift I can remember Namu like it was yesterday. It was still fully operational when I was working on seiners as a teen. Its funny, I didnt care for it much and we would try to get the captain to go to Ocean Falls for the weekend instead. I enjoyed it more after I returned when I was in my 20s gillnetting when most of it was shut down. There was a nice boardwalk that led to a sandy beach on the lake. Namu had two main wharves, the one to the right of the camp off the boardwalk to the fuel dock was for the Japanese, the one on the left was for everyone else. I still own the boat I bought from a Japanese fisherman who had everything taken away and was interned during WW2. The first time I took my boat to Namu I tied it to the exact same spot the Japanese fisherman had tied for 30 years. I got some strange looks when people saw me. Namu is known for an orca that was captured there, back then the government saw orcas as vermin that should be exterminated. We were surrounded by a pod of 100 orcas the first time I went out in a skiff to practise rowing around outside of Namu. Some of the dorsal fins were 6 ft high. Id never seen them before in the wild and it made me nervous, I remember thinking that it would be easy for them to tip the skiff over if they had wanted.
I've been there ,rivers inlet , got in to black gold lodge on 3 4 canceled trips as a single , the last trip most remimberableb, had to find some one to go with me , 3.5 days for about 3k 3 gran but the man I bring with me , he got a 30lbs king ,but he learnd the truest definition of buckle buster reals ,the fly fishing reels , just a 6 oz weight cut plug hering, got to pet a gray whale about 80 100 foot long , later , the last day , after lunch and the bit was of , every body went to lunch , most was a guide and 2 people , we went from the wall to the island to the left at big king salmon lodge, was the most salmon on the top of the water , I stop the boat ,I tell my friend , why is it raining but no clouds , ???? I handed him my no glare sun glasses, the dorsal fins on the water so many ,it looked like rain , the 6 oz hearing dont work , it's called tahoky fishing in Everett Seattle puget sound, I put on a 18 inch glow in dark flasher 18inch leader , a glow bead on kamagotsu hooks a black green squid same as the blade flasher , a hearing felay the hearing lay it flat cut a point on the thick end , put the thick end on the hook,, the last full day we needed 11 salmon to limit out , this rig is action reaction, triggering a strik , I catch and release about 350 salmon ,kep ower 11 fish , went the last half halibut fishing for the helabit , we drop ower rigs out I hooked up he on other side hook up , it's just a hr of day light , but the fish we had on at the same time , 300 500 3000 lbs halibut, the crew at black gold lodge yelling at us on radio your planes hear then it was like it spit the hooks out and was off , we bombed back grabbed ower crap and got on the plane , wow amazing place
Beautiful...

Nice effort on that salmon! Good thing you had your track shoes on...did a lap or two around the deck!
Haha right?! It was a really fun fight that definitely took me around the boat
Awesome guide. Worked with him, he is also my Chief
He’s a great guy!
I’ll be in Rivers in hogust great vid and good job on the rod!
Jenny, I’m interested to know what lure Ted was using. 👍👍

Hello from Ladner BC Ted !!
Thanks Bob!
up there in 1992. look at the trees: YOU DO NOT want to be there in winter!!!
Are there sea-run cutthroat trout in BC? Where can you find those?
Great question! Im still learning about the different kinds of salmon. When I find out, I will let you know.

Make/model/length of rod please? Islander reel? Kanaka Maoli flag braddah?
Hi! I can tell you that it was an islander real but the other info I would have to get from Ted. Thanks for watching!
