Anyone else notice how much actual news there is here, national and international? Today it’s mostly sensational local stories (highlighted by Chicago’s incessant gang slayings) fluff pieces and constant reminders of what’s “coming up.”
News of the beginnings of MRIs, then called NMRs (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance machines). I guess they eventually dropped the word nuclear to avoid alarming people. (This was of course only four years after Three Mile Island.)
@@dannypulliam3157 When did WBBM get knocked off at the leader? Was it in the late 70s and CBS was still doing well. Was it in the 80s when CBS started to see slippage?
He sure seemed like it! It's blowing my mind he was one of their big anchors at that point. I thought he did really well here! Harry too, I remember both of them more clearly 10 or so years later. Sad how far Channel 2's news has fallen. I don't recognize any of the anchors or reporters on there now, it's honestly a joke. John and Harry were both true professionals with integrity that took pride in their work. Miss 'em both
Tip O’ Neil repeatedly mispronounces the President’s name as he expounds the time honored Democrat tradition of advocating legislation to prevent Americans from keeping more of their own money. Some things never change. (In 1983 50,000 a year is considered “rich.”)
Voiceover is Ron Rolland before he moved to WLS-TV.
i was 2 years old living in chicago now 41 living in subs
I watch these instead of the news of today.
It's more interesting.
I can't do anything about the news anyway so this is more entertaining.

A 20lb bag of charcoal is still $1.99 at Aldi, thank God....

Not just Chicago, but all other major markets in the country (including here in Atlanta).
I never watch the news anymore. They never tell us the full story or even the truth at all. Its all about what ever agenda they have instead

Was WBBM #1 at 10pm? Was WLS nipping on their heels?
WLS probably was. But they took full control of the ratings in 1987 and never looked back😃

@@1thetvzone WBBM had been #1 since 1979; WLS was starting to close in on them a little after they lured Floyd Kalber back home to Chicago.
@@johnnyballenatl Oh, thx you! I wonder how long WBBM was top and they hit rock bottomed. So now 40 plus yrs later WLS is still on top.

24:36 Who??
Does anyone know why the news started at 10:40 that night instead of 10? And why was there a "special episode" of M*A*S*H before the late movie?
Sounds like it may have been a Local Emmy Awards telecast, judging by the sportscaster's comments.
M*A*S*H was delayed by "Where Are They Now?" The Chicago Emmy Awards aired from 8:30-10:40 PM.
9:40 ...But....😂😂😂
