I like the commercials in this. I'm from Omaha Nebraska and have lived in Chicago since like 91 or something. So I remember seeing a lot of these people even in the early '90s. This kind of stuff just takes me back to the day.
This broadcast aired the night before my Dad passed away from cancer at Evanston Hospital on 4/22/1987 when I was just 7 years old. A day that obviously changed my life forever.
Look forward mostly, sometimes it can be good to look back. Nostalgia is like ice cream, it’s great from time to time but too much will kill you. It’s fun to remember but be careful of living in the past(you knew less back then😜). May your future be the best✌️
RIP John Drury. After seeing what my father went through the last few years of his life with Lewy Body Dementia, which acted similarly to ALS like Drury had, I can easily imagine how hard it had to have been for his family to go through that. Drury is forever missed.
Interesting you mention that, because an iconic figure in New York TV news, Bill Beutel who was long associated with sister station WABC Channel 7, also had Lewy Body Dementia in his last years. I'm sure the same sentiments you mentioned, would have applied to his loved ones. WABC also had a courtroom sketch artist, Marilyn Church, whose work now sits in the Library of Congress.
A news report that Mr. Greenjeans has passed at the age of 77. Jerry Taft would live another 33 years after this broadcast, passing away in July of 2020…… at the age of 77
Listen on the opening, and you'll hear the billing being reversed from what it usually was then-- "Jerry Taft for Steve Deshler on weather," and "Tim Weigel with sports." The reason I say that is because usually the weatherman would be billed "with weather," and the sports man "on sports."
Merci pour votre vidéo j'ai adoré au niveau au niveau du baseball j'adore ça et aussi les joueurs plein de choses qui était vraiment très très très vieux et très ancien ce qui est très bien j'aime😍😀
Despite the loss to the Sox here, the Brewers' winning streak was still good enough to fulfill George Webb's perennial "prediction"--resulting in a whole lot of free hamburgers.
Didn't know the Bears was trying to build a stadium on Chicago's Westside back then. Fast forward to now(2022) they about to move to Arlington Heights and build there own stadium...
big jim silenced my uncle, we constructed a ten foot horse with a statue of big jim on it in the Dirkson federal center, there was a foot peddle with a recording, the whole art exhibit was shut down by someone , i wonder who,, so big jim on the horse was never to be

RIP Dick Johnson

I daily struggle with the obsession of going back and doing it all again. Maybe I’m not alone in this
You're not alone. I would give anything to have s second crack at it.
I am back. I don't plan on returning.
@@softrockrules you got UA-cam back then?

The Swatch commercial at 1:35 is incredible. "Swatch watch! Movin' faster & faster! Swatch watch!" lolol
The last 2 commercials were pretty darn good!
The late, great Don Drysdale on the White Sox telecast.

I miss the news of old.
The news wasn't as flashy back then as it is now. That's kind of a nice thing back then.
R.I.P.
Dick Johnson
John Drury
Tim Weigel
Jerry Taft
Peter Jennings
Bob Petty
Pat Summerall
Who else I miss?
Ole Blue Eyes
@@timdailey2690 oh that too
Hugh Brannum (Mr. Green Jeans) @ 20:54.
Floyd Kalber(he was probably with WMAQ at this time; would join Channel 7 later on)
Actually Floyd Kalber left WMAQ-TV in '76 for NBC NEWS in New York and came back to Chicago in '84 joining WLS-TV.

Mary anne looks great with very little makeup, the less the better she looks
She was really beautiful, I used to watch because of her…one very pretty lady
Don't tell me what to do, Kirk Cameron
Yes; each of us is free to make our own choices... and then we have to answer to Almighty God for them.
@@StukInBuf There is no god, silly! Lmao
Even back in 1987 the bears were looking to build a new stadium and now they could move to arlington
The Bears were talking about Arlington Hts in the 70’s

Good to see frank ☺️
The story @ 20:54 broke my heart that day.
I used to watch a lot of Captain kangaroo back in the day when I was a kid in the '70s and early '80s
I find it so hypocritical for someone from Hollywood to say no to drugs, knowing good and well drugs is like manna for Hollywood.
Not Kirk Cameron. He’s super churchy. That’s why his show ended
@@The_Mimewar I thought Growing pains ended because it sucked? lol
@@robertdwyer7996 nope. Jesus killed it
@@The_Mimewar ABC killed because they moved it to Saturday from it cushy Wednesday time slot..
Kirk Cameron is a Christian; he lived his life differently than the rest of Hollywood.

It’s interesting that the homicide rate in 1987 was pretty similar to current rates and not one mention of it.
Mary Ann sort of reminds me of Carolyn Manno of CNN World Sport.
J'adore Sinatra c'est un chanteur et un danseur excellent😍🙂😃🤩

Dick Johnson is still an anchor after all these years, now on WMAQ-TV Channel 5, and Alan Kreshesky is now "top dog" at WLS-TV Channel 7.
Dick Johnson died two years ago.
